Johor Mentri Basar Dato'on Hafiz Ghazi on Monday visited the area around Johor Bahru,

He said investigations revealed that the chemicals found in Sungai Pandan recently had the potential

to harm public health.

He said the chemicals consist of toxic components that had polluted the air and caused unpleasant

smell in the area.

He said a team comprising officials from the Department of Environment and Fire and Rescue

Department identified the chemical residues in the contaminated water samples and will

work on preventing the pollution from spreading to other areas.

He instructed the authorities to bring those responsible for the pollution to justice.

Earlier, some 21 pupils at SK Kampung Maju Jaya experienced nausea, shortness of breath

and dizziness due to being exposed to odour pollution.

Following this, health officials from the campus health clinic have been deployed to

the school to provide medical treatment to the pupils before they were allowed to leave.
