The Bears are undefeated and it was the beginning of a new era.
00:04
Absolutely.
00:05
We said it all week, the beginning of a new era, but it looked like
00:10
something very old and familiar.
00:11
That is the way the Bears won the last time they were very good.
00:16
They did it with their defense and their special teams and a quarterback that
00:19
they carried across the finish line.
00:21
You said you wrote a flashback to 2006.
00:24
And I got to tell you that is, believe it or not, the last time a
00:29
Bears quarterback is thrown for less than a hundred yards and
00:34
the team still won a game.
00:36
That happened with Rex Grossman.
00:38
So that's the good news and the bad news.
00:39
The good news is that you have a defense and special teams that are good enough to
00:44
produce all the points that you need.
00:46
Yesterday, there was not an offensive touchdown.
00:49
The bad news is the offense looked like it's really struggling right now.
00:52
And you have a rookie quarterback that played the part.
00:55
He'll get better.
00:56
The offense will get better.
00:57
Meanwhile, you feel very encouraged because that defense was
01:02
ferocious in the second half.
01:04
They made adjustments that mattered and the special teams had the pivotal play.
01:07
The block punt changed the air in the room.
01:10
Everything about that stadium was uplifted.
01:13
It was so deflating, Soldier Field at the time.
01:17
And then Daniel Hardy, of all people, blocks the punt.
01:21
Jonathan Owens vaults across the finish line or the goal line, scores the
01:25
touchdown. Bears win, Bears win.
01:28
A lot to talk about, a lot to digest.
01:30
But the bottom line is when you play like that at times yesterday, as bad as the
01:34
offense was, you pull out a victory.
01:36
It's very encouraging.
