'I'm a wedding expert and here's what to avoid on your big day'

Credit: SWNS / Kat Williams  A wedding expert has shared things couples shouldn't do on their big day - including not having too many bridesmaids to avoid 'drama' and not tying the knot too late in the day.  Kat Williams, 38, founder and editor of Rock N Roll Bride magazine, divided opinions after posting a video with her personal 'dont's' for people planning a wedding.    She warned couples not to have family or friends take their wedding photos, not to let guests use their phones during the ceremony and not to get married post 2pm.   She told brides to refrain from buy a dress in a smaller size that they plan to 'slim into' and instructed couples not to order too much food - insisting guests don't need canapes, ice creams, a sweet table and buffet.

00:05Five things I would never do at my own wedding.

00:08Number one, I would never have a friend or family member take the photos.

00:11People that have wanted to save money or they've said, you know,

00:14they've got an uncle that's got a great camera and it very rarely works out.

00:19Number two, I would not allow people to take photos during the ceremony on their phones

00:24because what ends up happening is you end up with 100 crap photos at terrible angles

00:29of you doing your vows.

00:30And then when you get your professional photos back,

00:32all the photos have people behind their phones like this lip.

00:36So put up a sign or get your officiant to make an announcement at the beginning and say,

00:40please no photos during the ceremony.

00:42We've got a professional, they know what they're doing.

00:45You're going to ruin it.

00:46Number three would be having the ceremony too late in the day.

00:49I would always try and have the ceremony between 12.30 and 2.

00:53The later the ceremony, the less time you have to party and to be with your guests.

00:57And people always say the wedding day goes so fast.

01:00Number four, I would never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever,

01:05buy a wedding dress that didn't fit.

01:07I was going to slip into it.

01:09Number one, toxic.

01:11Number two, it's not something you want to be encouraging people to do.

01:14Number three, it's going to add extra pressure to you to lose weight.

01:17And then if you don't do it, it's going to make you feel bad about yourself

01:20and potentially be very expensive to get it like refitted or buying a dress.

01:25Just buy a dress that fits you.

01:26Number five, I would not over order food.

01:30So many weddings, people think people are going to be like ravenous all day

01:34and they have too much food, so it's costing too much money and there's loads of waste.

01:37You don't need canapes and an ice cream bar and a taco station and a sweet table

01:44and dinner and dessert and cake and an evening buffet.

01:48People just don't need that much food.

01:51Skip the evening buffet, your bank balance will thank you.

01:54Number one, or number six, depending on how you look at it.

01:58I would never not include my partner in the wedding planning.

02:00They may not be that interested in flowers and wedding dresses and dove releases,

02:07but it is their wedding too.

02:08So, you know, get them involved.

02:10Number two, stress too much about what other people think.

02:14People spend so much time worrying about if people are going to enjoy the day

02:18or if they're going to think their wedding is like weird or horrible.

02:21And in the nicest possible way,

02:24they don't care about your wedding as much as you think they do.

02:26And if they're going to be mean and judgmental, then they probably shouldn't get invited.

02:30Number three, and this is something I was guilty of,

02:33is being too safe with my outfit choice.

02:36I was worried about like being too out there

02:39and I ended up wearing a dress that was actually quite traditional.

02:42And looking back at it now, I'm like, God, I wish I'd been braver.

02:45Number four, something I would never do if I was getting married now,

02:48is to have too many bridesmaids.

02:51I get it.

02:52If you've got lots of friends, you want them all to be included in the day.

02:55But more bridesmaids means more drama.

02:58You can give your friends other jobs, they don't have to be bridesmaids.

03:01And number five, the thing I would never do if I was getting married again now,

03:05would be not have a videographer.

03:07I think the video is something that a lot of people overlook.

03:10If you have the budget, videographer.

03:13You won't regret it.
