Four-Year Old's BFF Is Her Bearded Dragon

This 4-year-old is so gentle with her bearded dragon, who has her very own pink Barbie Mercedes. We spoke to Vera's mom Lindsey about how she developed her love for cold-blooded animals and how the day she met Strawberry changed everything!

00:04Vera and Strawberry are like soulmates.

00:07I'll give her a kiss.

00:12I think she catched it.

00:14They spend as much time together as possible.

00:19That's a carouse and that's a fox.

00:22Whether that's reading stories or, you know, playing with dolls.

00:26Wow, she's on the red panda.

00:28She always wants to include Strawberry in everything she does.

00:31What's that?

00:32That's you, Strawberry.

00:35Flowers.

00:36Who are they for?

00:37Strawberry.

00:39Maybe I will put it right in there.

00:43Vera's obviously a child she's four,

00:45but she's consistently thinking about things that Strawberry would enjoy.

00:48Her mustard greens are strawberry.

00:51That's perfect.

00:53She developed the interest all her own.

00:56Wow, it's cool.

00:59When she was small, she started showing a big interest in reptiles.

01:07Before we knew it, I bought her a bunch of toy snakes.

01:10After that, we started looking into more of the reptiles

01:13and ended up getting her Strawberry.

01:16She's so cute, Mommy.

01:18She is cute.

01:19Do you love her?

01:20Yeah.

01:22I do love her.

01:25The thing that puts the biggest smile on my face

01:27is just how happy Vera is when she's with Strawberry.

01:32Can you give her a kiss?

01:34We have so many different animals in our house,

01:37but Vera always gravitates towards Strawberry.

01:41Vera spends a lot of time playing with her.

01:44Whenever we have Strawberry out to play,

01:46she just treats her very gently.

01:51It's pretty easy to see when she's feeling stressed,

01:54but she's a very relaxed bearded dragon.

01:57Look who came to cuddle her, too.

02:00I think Strawberry wants a hug.

02:03Come here, Strawberry.

02:05I think Vera's bond with Strawberry is so strong

02:07because they do spend so much time together.

02:09She thinks she wants to stay with me.

02:12Having Strawberry in her life has made her very compassionate.

02:16Strawberry has brown eyes like me.

02:19She takes that knowledge and she works with her little sister

02:22to teach her how to care for Strawberry.

02:27Vera says she wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up.

02:30I think I love this one.

02:33She has a very high interest in learning more about animals.

02:37Oh, there he goes.

02:39Aw, that's cute.

02:42And I think all of that kind of comes back to Strawberry.

02:45Strawberry's impacted our family very positively,

02:49and it just makes me so happy.

02:51She likes belly rubs

02:54and shin rubs

02:56and head scratches.

02:59And that's all the things she likes.
