Shrewbury Town Wall Tennis Club Host the Royal Hospital League of Friends event.

Shrewsbury Town Walls Tennis Club was busy as the Shrewsbury Royal Hospital held there annual League of Friends Tennis Competition.

00:00It's that time of year ladies! Tennis at Shrewsbury for the League of Friends Royal Shrewsbury. How are you?

00:05We're good, thank you.

00:06And it's not raining, have I said that word too soon?

00:10Annual event isn't it this?

00:12It is, it is. How long has it been going now I think?

00:15Over 20 years now.

00:16Has it?

00:17Yes.

00:17Wow.

00:18Judy organises this event with some very good helpers, very well.

00:21Ah, so are you you're fully on cake duty or are you picking up a racket at some point Judy?

00:26No I'm not, no. Too busy, I'm...

00:28Too busy on the teas and cakes?

00:30Yeah.

00:31And Sue, it's important, isn't it, events like this? They really do help, yeah?

00:35They certainly do. I mean the aim with League of Friends is really to sort of help and

00:40support the patients in the hospital, gives them more comfortable experience and

00:45and to help buy equipment for the hospital which is a huge thing.

00:51This year we're trying, well at the moment we're trying to raise £33,000

00:55for a laser for the fertility team.

00:58Okay, yeah.

00:59So it's important, every penny that we raise today will go towards that.

01:03Do you know how much normally you make from the League of Friends, from this tennis event?

01:08It's usually around £2,000 but we get some support from Lloyds Bank which it

01:15definitely contributes towards it.

01:16Yeah, great.

01:17And then we've got some nice raffle prizes as well.

01:20Yeah, a very nice raffle prize from Lakeland this year.

01:23Lakeland have been quite very supportive in the past as well.

01:26Well done, Lakeland.

01:44I am.

01:44So that means you're an excellent player and have won every game so far.

01:48I wish that were the truth but sadly it's not.

01:52And what's your names then, ladies? I should ask that.

01:55So I'm Fiona Jones and I'm Linda McMahon.

02:04Do you both live in Shropshire then, obviously?

02:07Yes, so I'm from Ludlow and live in Ludlow and Mark in Drayton.

02:11So how did you discover Shropshire then?

02:13I'm just wondering.

02:15Well, mine was by accident actually.

02:17I used to work for a company and I was moved over to England and then Ludlow just

02:22and Shropshire just happened to be there and I've been here 25 years.

02:26Little gems, aren't they, these Shropshire towns?

02:28They're lovely.

02:28Yeah, we try not to tell too many people.

02:31I mean, I'm on the edge of Wolverhampton.

02:32I don't tell anyone over there.

02:34Ludlow is nice.

02:35Yeah, so good event to be part of.

02:38Have you took part before?

02:39Absolutely terrific.

02:40Now, it's the first year that I've taken part because in previous years I've not been able to

02:45but it's really nice.

02:46It's great to come along and be able to play some tennis and, you know, for a great cause as well.

02:51And it's got a really nice kind of just relaxed friendly atmosphere, isn't it?

02:54Absolutely.

02:55It's nice to see so many women just having such a nice time playing tennis.
