Leeds locals react to Labour’s plans to ban smoking in some outdoor places.

00:00As a lifelong anti-smoker I don't like smoking but I do believe that people have got the right to do it

00:06and they should be allowed to smoke in pub gardens and things like that.

00:12I think that vaping should be made illegal inside because it's wrong for people to

00:18be forced to breathe in what is in effect habit-forming drugs without their permission.

00:23Sometimes we might go to the pub and there's ashtrays lying around and there's people smoking

00:28and outside hospitals as well. I was just saying that we went to a hotel over the weekend and even

00:33the bathroom just smelt of smoke so we think it would be fantastic for people's health and just

00:38general well-being I think. I read some article about whether they've done it in Australia and

00:43it seems to have worked. I know the industry, the bars and clubs are a bit worried about losing

00:47business but they said it kind of leveled out over in Australia. It kind of makes sense and

00:51obviously it's better for everybody. I know that they say that it brings in a lot of tax from

00:56selling cigarettes and so we don't want to encourage people not to smoke but at the same

00:59time it costs a lot for the NHS. Too much kids are smoking and vaping I think it's unhealthy

01:04and I don't like the smell so I feel like they should be banned because it can cause a lot of

01:09diseases to your heart, problems inside your body so I feel like they should get banned.

01:15Personally, smoking, I really think it should be banned especially in a public place like

01:20the city centre such as kids inhaling it and people who don't necessarily want to be smelling

01:27like the fumes. My concern would be businesses, they've got a lot of restaurants and pub closures

01:33so will they be impacted if people opt to stay at home if they can't smoke.

01:38Obviously it's important that less people are smoking in general for overall health. I think

01:43it might be a bit strict because outside smoking doesn't have the same risks obviously as the

01:49original smoking ban back in whenever it was. I think it would be best like based on the pub

01:54and stuff because they know their customers and it could just vary on the demographics that go there.
