Flower streets set to bloom again

The Flower Streets project is a celebration of Kirkdale and its residents, and has already resulted in nine, large-scale murals on the gable end of houses.

00:10resulted in nine large-scale murals on the gable ends of houses, each one representing

00:14the namesake flowers of each street.

00:17The artworks are a celebration of the community and aim to rejuvenate the area as well as

00:21addressing the issue of anti-social behaviour.

00:24Now two more pieces of work are to be added to the collection.

00:27Individual artist Madeleine Perez, who has been responsible for all work to date, has

00:31returned to Kirkdale to add additional murals.

00:34These new additions to the collection should be finished by the end of September.

00:38Before the creation of the murals, residents and school groups were invited to be part

00:41of an engagement programme which included free workshops, encouraged storytelling, writing,

00:45drawing, painting and an appreciation of ecology.

00:49The School of Psychology at Liverpool Hope University will be using the Flower Street

00:53as a case study.

00:54They will be researching the impact of greening this urban area.
