Launch of latest Hartlepool Safer Streets project

Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner visits project leaders in Victoria ward.

00:00So, it is funded from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner. It employs myself

00:18and Thomas to do various things within Victoria Ward. And it is, as what it says there, the

00:23Safe Street Project, it demonstrates the power of agencies working together to reduce crime.

00:29People are really proud to live in Victoria Ward, and they love where they live, and they

00:33don't want to move out, they just want to see slight things change, and change for the

00:37better. So myself and Tom doing a piece of work, linking in with people in the room,

00:41is how can we make those things happen for the people of Victoria Ward.

00:45Like I say, that shopping list of things that you guys are doing is unbelievable, and it's

00:50all about collaborative, joint working, it's all about bringing people together in communities,

00:55and what we've seen is that social behaviour has decreased as a result of the funding,

00:59across June and July, which is great because that's the time when traditionally it goes

01:03up, but efforts like this have helped to bring it down, and so I think the more of this funding

01:10we can get and lever it into areas like Victoria which desperately need it, that is absolutely

01:14critical. I'm really pleased to see all the joint working that's going on. I'd like, before

01:17I finish, I'd just like to thank Hartlepool Council, Nancy, all the organisations locally

01:23who've come together after the disorder, and the hard work that's been put into communities,

01:28because it isn't just about pots of money and safer streets, it's about the people who

01:31are doing this work.
