Commanders did not do well in Jahan Dotson trade

JP Finlay looks at the bigger picture and notes that if this was the best haul Adam Peters could get, the market wasn't there for Dotson.

00:05Maybe if he balled out for them,

00:06they could get more in a Dotson trade.

00:08If he didn't ball out, they'd probably get less

00:11and they didn't get very much.

00:12I am a believer in market economics.

00:15And I don't think Adam Peters only called Philly

00:19about trading Dotson.

00:21I'm guessing he called lots of places

00:23to see what there was out there.

00:25And there wasn't that much out there.

00:27That's, to me, pretty obvious.

00:30To others, it might not be.

00:32I think Dotson can play.

00:33I do not, however, understand Jimmy Lee Patterson.

00:38And I wish Jeff was here

00:39because he knows the folks in the chat

00:40if they're crazy or trolls or whatever.

00:44I don't know that this dude is or isn't.

00:45Maybe he just thinks he knows me.

00:48But Jimmy Lee Patterson accused me of playing water boy

00:51for the organization

00:52because I'm downplaying Dotson's rookie year.

00:55Jimmy, here's what I can tell you.

00:56I said on television, radio, and podcast

00:59that Dotson was really good as a rookie.

01:01He had seven touchdowns on 35 catches.

01:03He was in an offense, Scott Turner's offense,

01:07that designed ways to get him off the line of scrimmage.

01:11They designed ways for him to get off the line of scrimmage

01:15without a big bump or a jam or a press.

01:18And then once he got into space, he was really good.

01:21In Eric Biennumi's offense, that largely dried up

01:23and a lot of Dotson's red zone prowess dried up.

01:28Not to mention, all of a sudden last year,

01:30he was dropping passes that I never would have expected

01:32when he came out of college

01:34because he was graded as arguably the best hands catcher

01:36in that draft class.

01:39I am in no way downplaying Dotson's showed serious flashes

01:43of being a stud wideout.

01:46And maybe he'll get back to it,

01:47but it doesn't matter

01:48because Adam Peters and Dan Quinn didn't want him here.

01:51You can't look at the events of the last 24 hours

01:53and come to any other conclusion

01:55that the staff now did not want him.
