00:00If football is a game played in the trenches, just how screwed might the Cowboys be? Let's
00:23talk about it. So the Cowboys made an addition yesterday. They signed Linvald Joseph, uh,
00:29to a deal that's worth up to $4 million defensive tackle veteran who's been around the league
00:33for a dozen years. Uh, and a guy who the Cowboys have been hesitant on in the past because
00:41of his limited scope, the things that he can do to really affect the game. He is a, a big
00:49space filler, a one technique defensive tackle who his entire job is to take on blockers
00:57and free up linebackers. He's not going to make a bunch of splash plays. He's not going
01:00to knife through the line of scrimmage and make a big play. That is not Linvald Joseph's
01:04game 35 years old. And the PFF ranking last year was not good at a 38.8. I don't think
01:14Mike Zimmer cares about that very much. 14th NFL season. Cowboys are his 17, six, four,
01:21330 pounds. This is a big boy. And you would ask me last year before the season, like how,
01:28how are we going to, what, what will progress look like for Mozzie Smith? And I'd said at
01:33the time progress for Mozzie Smith, you're not, you're probably not going to notice because
01:37when you notice him, it'll probably be bad. And when you don't notice him, it's, it's
01:42probably better. And you're going to notice what you're going to see is if you see the
01:46linebackers playing better than you expected, that's evidence that Mozzie Smith is doing
01:51his job. And that's going to be the same situation with Linvald Joseph here. If the linebackers
01:54play better, if you see the linebackers getting free runs, where they're able to just shoot
01:59through the line of scrimmage and make a play, that means Linvald Joseph probably did his
02:02job and kept things under wraps. That's still a little bit of a concerning issue though,
02:09that Linvald Joseph, they felt the need to add him and Jordan Phillips and sign Al-Qadeem
02:14Mohammed and Carl Loss. You've signed several defensive linemen in the last two, three weeks
02:21that that would seem to signal some level of panic about what you are in the trenches
02:26on the defensive side of the ball.
