Colton Hills Community School was the location as GCSE results were given out. We talk to some of the pupils and see what's next for them.

00:00Good morning, I'm James McMurray-Richard and I'm outside Colston Hills Community School.

00:0426 years ago, around this day, I walked through those doors behind me, up those steps and

00:10into the 6th form room to see how my future was decided with GCSE results day. As I walked

00:15in, my maths teacher, Mr Wiley, walks up to me, shook my hand and said congratulations,

00:20which was a surprise to start off with. I walked out that day with 5 C's, 3 D's and

00:25a 1 E in technology. Funnily enough, a lot of people don't talk about these days. That's

00:30not the point. Today is GCSE results day, so a lot of students are going to come to

00:34this very place, walk into the theatre which is further down that way and find out what

00:38their future holds for them. So let's go see how they've done, let's go and have a look

00:42at the successes and possibly the despairs of the day and let's talk to a few students.

00:56Tell us how you've done today. I think I did really well today. I'm really proud of myself.

01:03So what are your results from beginning to end? What's the highest one? My highest one

01:07is mathematics, I've got a 9 in it. And then I've got an 8 in Polish. And then my lowest

01:13one would be religious studies, I've got a 5 in it. But it's ok, I never liked it. But

01:19were you expecting the results that you've got, particularly with maths? I'm very proud

01:23of myself with maths. I usually got 7s in the mock test, but I think I could have done

01:27higher in geography, I was expecting a bit more in geography. But overall you're very

01:32very happy with today? Yes. And what's next for you, where are you going off to study

01:34next? I'm going to see Goldshire, that's where I apply to and I've got an offer there. Alright

01:41and from your results today, what's the sort of future progression, what would you like

01:46to do in the future? I'd like to be in research and physics in a university. And how much

01:52has being at Colston Hills helped you? It helped quite a lot actually, I wouldn't have

01:56got these grades if it wasn't for Colston Hills teachers. So tell me how you guys have

02:04done today, what have been your best results? My best results was physics, I've got a grade

02:089 in physics. Were you expecting that? I was expecting it, I did put a lot of effort in.

02:12But overall how do you think you've done? I'm quite happy with my results, I'm still

02:15quite happy. When I look down at them, I haven't failed anything, I've got it into my sixth

02:20form that I wanted to. There's not more you could ask for is there? And that's the end,

02:23I suppose that's the thing, the general feeling is a sort of relief I'm guessing right now?

02:27Relief yeah, I was quite stressed when I came in here, but obviously as you get your results

02:31and you open it and you look through them and you see that you've done well, it boosts

02:35the stress. And how much do you think Colston Hills helped you to be able to get those results?

02:39They helped me a lot, the teachers were brilliant, specifically my maths and science ones, they

02:43helped me through this and those are my best subjects currently, so I was quite happy with

02:47the way they helped me. And for yourself, how have you done today? I've got strong passes

02:51all over everything. Was that what you expect since you have aspirations for something higher

02:55or do you think you've done well enough? I just tried my hardest so I expect quite well.

02:59What was your best result? Fives and everything.

03:03But in total, what's next for you? Sixth form still. So you're sixth form here?

03:07And I suppose that's the thing, how much did Colston Hills help you to get your results?

03:11They non-stop helped me, non-stop. And that was throughout the whole exam process

03:16and everything. And what's the general feeling right now, just relief? Relief and happiness.

03:20So tell us how you've done today, what have been your best results?

03:24I think for the best results

03:28I was definitely getting higher in maths, like maths and eights

03:32and especially in physics, which I got a nine,

03:36biology and chemistry also, and

03:40there's another one, yeah, IT as well.

03:44Are you shocked, are you relieved, are you excited? I'd say more relieved

03:48than happy that I didn't get below what I was expecting.

03:52It's been a tough two years but it's been worth it in the end.

03:56So what's next for you, what's the plans after state?

04:00After today. Are you going to college, you go to sixth form?

04:04I'm going to sixth form here. Was there something about Colston Hills that made you want to stay?

04:08Yeah, I think the teachers in general

04:12they are, you know, they're more approachable

04:16and they actually know what they're doing as well.

04:20But just in general, delighted to have got the results you've got and obviously everything you expected?

04:24Yeah.

04:42This is Debbie Carnell,

04:46she achieved all nines. Obvious question but how are you feeling right now?

04:50I'm happy. Were you expecting all nines?

04:54There was always the possibility but I was worried.

04:58But you've walked in here today, you've got your results and I can tell just how emotional you are

05:02right now. Worth two years of hard work, wasn't it? Yeah, definitely.

05:06What were the subjects you expected to get a nine in?

05:11History and Chemistry. And what were the ones you were sort of a bit dubious about?

05:15Maths. Yeah, just Maths.

05:19But you've achieved that, what's next for you? A levels in Biology, Chemistry and Maths.

05:23But just generally, you've had the big day, how much has Colston Hills contributed towards that?

05:27I think they've been very supportive

05:31and I wouldn't have done it if I didn't come here, I don't think.
