00:00Welcome back everyone it is Amelia, I hope you are fine.
00:09New details about Alia Atreid's role in Dune Part 2 teases a major change to the story
00:14that could give one character a more satisfying ending.
00:18Dune Part 2 appears to have changed Alia Atreid's role, setting up a more satisfying final for
00:24another major character.
00:26Ever since it was confirmed that Denis Villeneuve would adapt the second half of Frank Herbert's
00:31novel, questions about how he would handle Paul Atreid's younger sister arose.
00:35This was due to the stranger aspects of Alia, who is a young child mature beyond her years
00:40and aided by powers passed down from Lady Jessica's Bene Gesserit training.
00:45Her presence is substantial in the book, meaning Villeneuve would have to crack the problems
00:50with adapting her for Dune 2.
00:52The expectation of seeing a completely book-faithful version of Alia Atreid's in Dune 2 existed
00:57after her brief cameo in one of Paul's visions in the first movie.
01:01However, her absence from all marketing materials only created more confusion about whether
01:06she was in the film or not.
01:08Ahead of the movie's theatrical release, the first description of Alia's role has seemingly
01:13surfaced referring to an embryo who advises her mother from the womb.
01:18But character description can only be a match for Alia Atreid's and it hints at a major
01:23book change that will help another character.
01:26Dune 2 making Alia Atreid's an embryo means a bigger role for Lady Jessica as on the Dune
01:312 character description for Alia, a major revelation appears to have been revealed.
01:36Only referring to her as an embryo likely indicates that Alia is not born in Dune 2.
01:41This is a major departure from the book as she is roughly 2 years old during the back
01:46half of the novel, making her one of the reminders of the time jump that occurs.
01:51If Lady Jessica does not give birth to Alia during the events of Dune 2, then that leaves
01:56the movie without a pivotal character whose actions heavily impact how the story unfolds.
02:01It does not sound like Alia will be completely removed from the story as the tease that she
02:06advises her mother from the womb shows how she will still influence the movie.
02:11However, instead of adding the young Atreid's sister to the mix, it appears that will new
02:16changed the source material as a way to give Lady Jessica an even bigger role.
02:21She is now seemingly positioned to be the one who will carry out actions Alia suggests.
02:26Giving Jessica a more active role in Dune to Dune 2's Alia Atreid's change potentially
02:31means that Lady Jessica will be responsible for killing Baron Halkone.
02:35In Frank Herbert's book, Alia is captured and taken to see Emperor Shaddam and Baron
02:40Halkone.
02:41It is during this meeting that the young Atreid's manages to poison the Halkone ruler with the
02:46Gom Jabbar.
02:47It is only shortly thereafter that it is confirmed that Alia Atreid's killed Baron Halkone.
02:52The resolution to Baron's storyline will likely be similar in Dune 2, meaning Will
02:57Newve will have to have someone other than Alia be responsible for killing him, such
03:01as Lady Jessica.
03:03If Alia does have some influence over her mother, this could be how Dune 2 makes it
03:07possible for Lady Jessica to kill Baron Halkone.
03:10They could also both agree that this is the best option for the future of Arrakis and
03:15the galaxy.
03:16Or, Lady Jessica could make the decision to kill Baron all on her own.
03:20Regardless, she is the most natural choice for who could kill the Halkone, especially
03:25with the Alia connection.
03:26This would set up Jessica to have a more satisfying role to play in the conclusion of Dune 2 and
03:31deliver a late surprise.
