Thousands to rally in Chicago for Democratic convention to call for Gaza ceasefire, abortion rights

00:00U.S. Vice President and presumed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris touched down in Chicago,

00:05Illinois in a position of strength.

00:08Fresh polling by Ipsos puts her six points ahead of Republican challenger Donald Trump

00:13among likely voters nationwide.

00:16But left-wing voters came out in force on Sunday to demand that their votes not be taken

00:21for granted.

00:22I want Vice President Harris to know that there are people who are not willing to vote

00:28for her if she is going to continue to arm and fund the Israelis and participate in genocide.

00:34To end the genocide in Gaza, end the siege on Gaza.

00:38And we need an arms embargo on Israel to, you know, completely stop sending weapons,

00:43stop sending aid to Israel.

00:45That is the first step of a ceasefire.

00:47Joe Biden's position on Israel has at times angered the left of the Democratic Party who

00:52have found it too conciliatory.

00:55And while Kamala Harris skipped Benjamin Netanyahu's address to Congress last month, she has not

00:59promised any form of sanctions and does not support an arms embargo on the U.S. ally.

01:05Also high on voters' agendas, abortion rights.

01:08We've heard a lot from Kamala Harris and the Democrats about restoring Roe and that does

01:12not go far enough.

01:13That's not good enough.

01:14So many people did not have access to abortion under Roe.

01:17So we're here to say that we want to move beyond that framework.

01:2127 states now have draconian restrictions or blanket bans on abortion after Trump-nominated

01:27Supreme Court justices overturned a landmark ruling.

01:31In a move 62% of Americans oppose.

01:34Harris has campaigned hard on the issue, while her Republican challenger has focused heavily

01:38on immigration and inflation.
