00:00Off the northern shores of Ohio there appears to be a shipwreck, but to the man who calls
00:07it home, this ship is anything but.
00:11Welcome to the Benson Ford Ship House.
00:13Come on aboard.
00:14Let me show you around.
00:16Ship happens in the middle of Lake Erie on the west side of Put-In-Bay Island where this
00:20decommissioned boat overlooks the waters it once sailed.
00:24I'm Brian Casper.
00:25My house is the front 60 feet of a 600 foot ore freighter.
00:30It was originally built in 1924 by the Ford family and they used it to haul iron ore and
00:38coal and wood all around the Great Lakes.
00:42Once owned and operated by automobile tycoon Henry Ford, the forward superstructure of
00:46the boat was repurposed into a nautical home after 60 years of service.
00:51In 1999, Brian claimed his spot in the captain's chair and aimed to restore this historical
00:56vessel that was otherwise destined for the scrapyard.
