00:00So containers are the interior dimensions approximately around 8 feet and approximately
00:0840 feet.
00:09And I feel like these containers are pretty awesome.
00:12By having a small space, you don't need a lot.
00:15You can't have a lot because you ain't got no place to put it, you know.
00:20So my favorite thing about living in containers is the simplicity.
00:24Ah, the simple life.
00:27They say the best things in life are free, but Matt's motto is, the best things in life
00:31are recycled from the past, and his house is just that.
00:35Some of the coolest features we got and some of the reclaimed materials were our windows.
00:39They came from an old building in Philadelphia, which was a school.
00:43The ceiling, which was one of my favorite finds, these were basically pallets from a
00:48whiskey distillery in Kentucky.
00:49And you can still see in some spots, there's the stain from the rings of the whiskey barrels.
00:56Cool, Matt.
00:58Now lead the way to the rest of the house.
01:01So we're cooking up something special in the kitchen.
01:02Let me show you.
01:03Hang on a second here.
01:04Hey, we're in the kitchen.
01:07The kitchenette is filled with Matt's favorite finds, like cabinets repurposed from an FDA
01:12testing lab in Brooklyn and countertops from an old bowling alley deep in the heart of
01:18Texas.
01:20This would be where many a ball has rolled and many a strike has been had.
01:26They're two-inch thick rock maple, so they need it to be very, very strong for the weight
01:30of the balls to roll down.
01:32It really makes it the perfect countertop material.
01:35Shuffling down the hallway of this shotgun-style container home is the bathroom and the bedroom,
01:41with a partition for privacy that's over a century old.
01:45This factory door that was salvaged out of an old factory in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
01:49this door's probably from the 1800s.
01:51The glass has chicken wire in it, which is a precursor to your tempered safety glass.
01:57But building out a shipping container with all these old materials isn't for the faint
02:01of heart.
02:02Luckily, it's Matt's passion.
02:05There's a lot of artifacts in the bedroom and throughout a lot of the containers that
02:08are from some of my travels around the world.
02:12A lot of the containers that are out there are pretty beat up.
02:15I mean, they use these things.
02:16They travel the seven seas, they go all over the world, and then they're not exactly the
02:20easiest things to cut into.
02:21Some guys will use plasma cutters, some guys will use grinders.
02:25Either way, it's a tough job.
02:27It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it.
02:31As crazy as your ideas are and as deep as your pocketbook is, you can have anything
02:36done with containers.
