Dramatic security camera footage has captured the moment an arsonist accidentally set himself on fire during a break-in at a Canberra barber shop. Police say the attack was targeted and have appealed to the public to help identify the offenders.

00:26He is very lucky, this is an incredibly dangerous incident.
00:30The late night arson attack has been under investigation for more than a month.
00:34We do believe that the incident was targeted, that it wasn't random.
00:38The business is on a main thoroughfare and only opened earlier this year.
00:42Upstairs is a 24 hour gym where people were working out at the time.
00:47Had the fire taken hold even more we could have really seen some serious injuries or death occur as a result of the incident.
00:54The attack has rattled the shop's owner.
00:57When something like that happens you're just thinking who's doing this, why it's happening,
01:00is this going to affect my family, is it going to affect me when I'm walking to my car after work.
01:05He estimates the fire caused about $30,000 worth of damage.
01:10I just want to get an answer just to see why would someone do something like that,
01:14keep people like that away from people who work hard.
01:17Police are appealing for public assistance to identify the offenders,
01:21urging anyone with information about the incident on the 6th of July to come forward.
01:26They also have a message for the arsonists.
01:29Hand yourselves in to police before we come knocking on your door.
01:33A warning that playing with fire will get you burned.
