00:00Welcome Back Everyone.
00:08It is Amelia.
00:09I hope you are fine.
00:10The Acolyte secretly revealed there is a Sith traitor among the Jedi.
00:14Set a century before the events of Star Wars Episode I, The Phantom Menace.
00:19The Acolyte tells a dark story in which the Sith assassin Mae Anisea has launched a brutal
00:24attack on the Jedi who visited her homeworld of Brendok some 16 years ago.
00:29Mae appears to be a Sith Acolyte, working for a mysterious Sith Lord.
00:33This is a time when the Jedi believed the Sith to be extinct, when in reality they were
00:37operating in the shadows, manipulating events across the galaxy.
00:41Viewers know what the Jedi do not, that after almost a thousand years of planning, the Sith
00:46and the Acolyte are poised to return.
00:48Within just over a century, the Jedi Order will be destroyed in Order 66.
00:53And yet already the Acolyte has hinted at the scale of the Sith lands, and indeed their
00:58infiltration of the Jedi Order.
01:00It was only on a re-watch that I spotted one crucial detail in The Acolyte Episode 2.
01:05When Mae confronts Jedi Master Torben for the second time, attempting to persuade him
01:09to take Banta poison, she offers him a brutal choice.
01:13Confess your crime to the Jedi Council or receive the forgiveness you seek.
01:17Right here.
01:18Right now.
01:19From me.
01:20Naturally, the focus here really lies on the fact the Jedi Master has such a profound sense
01:24of guilt that he takes the poison.
01:27But we have all missed another aspect of this scene.
01:29Mae knows Master Torben didn't tell the Jedi Council what happened on Brendo.
01:34Mae is no fan of the Jedi, so she is more likely to assume the Jedi Council simply didn't
01:39mind about whatever really happened on her homeworld.
01:42That means her comment indicates knowledge of Jedi Council records.
01:46The Sith Acolyte knows what information has been passed on to the Jedi Council.
01:51Later in the same episode, he misshows knowledge that could only come from the Jedi archives
01:56He tells Mae he knows where Master Kanaka can be found, on the relaxing forest retreat
02:01of Khofar.
02:02Kimmel clearly has sources who are able to access the Jedi archives too.
02:06There is a traitor among the Jedi.
02:09This inevitably leads to the next question.
02:11Is this a Sith agent or an actual Sith?
02:14Recent Star Wars novels have revealed Palpatine cultivated a network of agents who worked
02:19within the Jedi Temple.
02:20It's how he identified potential recruits for the Imperial Inquisitors.
02:25It's quite possible he wasn't the only Sith to come up with that idea.
02:29The problem, though, is that no random civilian or member of staff should be able to access
02:34Jedi Council records or mission logs for active Jedi.
02:38This suggests a Jedi working for the Sith.
02:40Suddenly the stakes of the Acolyte have been raised.
02:43In interviews, Lesley Headland has suggested this is the story of how the Sith infiltrated
02:48the Jedi and it's entirely possible that is true.
02:51The Sith are ruthless and manipulative and it's so easy to imagine them hiding among
02:56the Jedi themselves.
02:58That disturbing possibility cannot be ruled out.
