The International Olympic Committee has condemned 'misleading' reports about the gender of female boxers, calling for viewers to 'tone it down' regarding abuse directed at athletes such as Algerian women's boxer Imane Khelif.

00:06including at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

00:10The International Olympic Committee has condemned misleading reports about the gender of female boxers,

00:15calling for viewers to tone it down regarding abuse directed at athletes such as Algerian women's boxer Iman Khalif.

00:23The IOC is saddened by the abuse that the two athletes are currently receiving.

00:28Khalif, who was assigned female at birth and has always identified as a woman,

00:33did not pass a controversial gender eligibility test at last year's World Championships,

00:38but was approved by the IOC to represent Algeria in boxing at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

00:45They were suddenly disqualified without any due process.

00:48This decision was taken initially solely by the IBA Secretary General and CEO.

00:54The IBA's recognition was withdrawn by the IOC in 2023 following suspension in 2019.

01:00The withdrawal of recognition was confirmed by the Court of Arbitration in Sport.
