IAAF explain how they dealt with gender issues following boxing controversies

00:00You just referenced one of the hardest decisions that you had to make over gender eligibility and testosterone levels.

00:04Boxing is now going through this as a fighter.

00:08Today, who's just been part of a bout where the opponent withdrew after 45 seconds,

00:12she was declared ineligible at a previous event.

00:15How challenging is it to deal with these sensitive and complex issues of gender eligibility?

00:20It is if you don't have a clear-cut policy.

00:23You know, if you have a clear-cut policy,

00:26however tough that decision is to arrive at, you have the policy.

00:30And then you have the compass.

00:34If you don't, then that is a challenge.

00:38And boxing has a challenge, of course, because there isn't actually an international federation

00:42or a body that is currently, in a way, responsible for that.

00:46So that's for another sport to deal with.

00:49But you do have to have clarity.

00:51You need clarity around policy.
