17 Year-Old Suspect in U.K. Dance Class Stabbings Appears in Court

Residents swept up broken bricks, shattered glass and burnt plastic on Wednesday after far-right protesters clashed with police outside a mosque in a northwest England town where three girls were fatally stabbed.

00:00The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised Merseyside Police to charge a 17-year-old boy of Banks, Lancashire

00:07with three counts of murder and ten counts of attempted murder

00:11following the tragic incident that took place in Southport this week.

00:15He will appear at Liverpool City Magistrates' Court on Thursday 1st August 2024.

00:21We remind all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active

00:27and that he has a right to a fair trial.

00:30It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online

00:37which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.

00:41Our thoughts remain with families of all those affected by these harrowing events.

00:51As the Crown Prosecution Service have said, a 17-year-old boy from Banks

00:56has been charged with the murders of Bebe, Elsie Dot and Alice,

01:03ten counts of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article

01:07following the tragic incident in Southport on Monday 29th July.

01:12The 17-year-old cannot be named for legal reasons as he is under 18.

01:18He has been remanded in custody to appear tomorrow, Thursday 1st August

01:23at Liverpool Magistrates' Court, Derby Square.

01:27Whilst these charges are a significant milestone within this investigation,

01:33this remains very much a live investigation

01:36and we continue to work with our partners from Lancashire Police

01:40and Counter Terrorism Policing North West.
