The British high street has faced significant decline, marked by the closure of thousands of shops, pubs and bank branches.

Recent announcements such as Boots the Chemist planning a massive round of store closures
00:15
and Carpet Right looking set to disappear from the high street underscores the crisis.
00:21
In response, the new Labour government has announced a comprehensive plan to revitalise high streets.
00:28
This includes reforming business rates, a long-standing burden for brick and mortar businesses.
00:34
They plan to replace them with a fairer system.
00:38
Labour also plans to address the rise in shoplifting and anti-social behaviour by increasing police presence
00:46
and introducing tougher laws to further support high street businesses
00:51
and allowing councils to repurpose long vacant shops.
00:56
It does beg the question, what needs to be done to encourage you to return to the high street and shop local?
