The statement, the first substantive business of the new European Parliament, received 495 votes in favour and 137 against.
Transcript
00:00The new European Parliament displays immediately its full support for Ukraine.
00:06The first resolution of the first plenary session doubled down the commitment to support
00:10the country politically, economically and militarily for as long as it takes to guarantee
00:15victory against the Russian invasion.
00:18The text was approved by a large majority of 495 MEPs and condemns the recent visit
00:24to Moscow by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban who holds the rotating presidency of
00:29the Council of the European Union.
00:30I am quite confident of such a behavior of Prime Minister Orban is a real violation of
00:41the treaties but of course also from a political point of view I think this is a big mistake
00:48of Prime Minister Orban showing that he is really not only that he is you know not following
01:01EU you know goals and rules but also he is serving like an agent of Mr. Putin.
01:09Meanwhile support for Ukraine divides far-right groups.
01:15The European Conservatives and Reformists promoted the resolution and voted unanimously
01:19in favor.
01:20The Patriots for Europe group and the Europe of Sovereign Nations group however voted against
01:25as did the left.
01:29My delegation is for peace in Ukraine, we want the killing to stop, this is our desired
01:35outcome.
01:36How to get there?
01:37I think one of the elements is dialogue and diplomacy and if we stop talking to each other
01:44with all the relevant actors, Mr. Orban not only talk to Mr. Zelensky but also to Mr.
01:48Putin, Mr. Xi, Xi Jinping and the United States of Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump.
01:53So I think you need to enter into dialogue to look for ways to get to this desired outcome
01:59of the killing that should be stopped and the peace to re-enter in this country.
02:04So far the European Union and its member states have provided Ukraine with total sum of around
02:0995 billion euros of which a third is in military aid.
