00:00Today, we remember and celebrate the life of Joe Bryant, the father of the late NBA
00:21legend Kobe Bryant, who has sadly passed away at the age of 69.
00:26Joe, a former basketball star himself, recently suffered a massive stroke,
00:31as reported by La Salle University, head coach Fran Dunphy, to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
00:38Joe's basketball journey began at LaSalle University and Bartram High School. After
00:43an impressive college career, he was picked in the first round of the 1975 NBA Draft by
00:49the Golden State Warriors. However, he never played for them, as his rights were sold to
00:55his hometown team, the Philadelphia 76ers, just four months later. During his eight-season NBA
01:02career, Joe played for the 76ers, the San Diego Clippers, and the Houston Rockets.
01:09He then took his talents overseas, playing in Italy and France. The Bryant family returned
01:14to the U.S. when Kobe was 13, settling back in Philadelphia, where Kobe's legendary high
01:21school career at Lower Merion began. Joe's influence extended beyond his playing career.
01:28He became a coach, both internationally and domestically, including a notable stint as the
01:34head coach of the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks. Alongside his beloved son Kobe, who tragically
01:40passed away in a helicopter crash in 2020, Joe leaves behind his wife Pam and their daughters
01:46Sharia and Shia. Joe Bryant's impact on the basketball world and his family's legacy is
01:52immeasurable. His dedication, both on and off the court, continues to inspire many.
01:59Thank you for joining us as we honor Joe Bryant's remarkable life and legacy.
