00:00This is the BMW X2 M35i.
00:09If you've never driven a BMW and you've always
00:12wanted to own one, this is the place to start.
00:14The BMW X2 is actually built on the platform of the BMW X1.
00:19Underneath the shell of the car and the exterior design,
00:22they're pretty much identical.
00:24BMW's strategy with its boxy SUVs
00:27that have odd numbers like the X1, X3, and X5
00:31is to take that boxy shape and turn it
00:34into a really beautiful coupe with a sloped roof line
00:38and a little sportier look to it and give it an even number,
00:42X2, X4, and X6.
00:44The X2 M35i builds on the X2 28i, which is the base model.
00:51It starts at about $42,000 and puts out 241 horsepower.
00:55Upgrade to the M35i, which has the M package and all the M
00:59Sport details, and you add 71 horsepower for 312 horsepower
01:03and about $9,000 in price.
01:06Our test model adds a few more options and features
01:09and is priced at about $59,000.
01:12Still, probably the best experience
01:15you can get with all the features, all the bells
01:17and whistles, and really great performance in a BMW SUV.
01:21By upgrading to the M35i, you get all things M.
01:26So the more powerful engine, the sport tuning and suspension,
01:30a more fun-to-drive sport mode.
01:33In the M35i edition, you can add even more M.
01:37Ours has some M badging, and it has the M Sport seats
01:41with cutouts so you can add a racing harness.
01:44The X2 in its soul is an SUV.
01:46It has that higher ground clearance,
01:48and it has off-road capability.
01:50It's so capable, in fact, that BMW
01:52entered it in the very competitive off-road rally
01:55called the Rebel Rally last year,
01:57and it won second place in its class.
01:59Despite the off-road capabilities,
02:01it's a really comfortable daily driver.
02:03Our version has micro-suede seats
02:05that are bolstered and really comfortable,
02:08and it has every amenity and every feature
02:10that you need at your fingertips.
02:12The X2 28i has a four-cylinder engine
02:16that generates 241 horsepower.
02:18The M35 edition, same four-cylinder engine.
02:21It's a twin turbo, and it generates 312 horsepower.
02:25The X2's interior is the future of BMW.
02:28It has a wide, flat screen that's a touchscreen.
02:31It has a floating center console,
02:34and it has some novel features,
02:36such as the gear selector,
02:38which is really a toggle rather than a lever,
02:42My Modes, which is a button,
02:43and everything is touch-sensitive
02:45on all of the screens and all of the controls.
02:48So here's the stop-start button.
02:50This is our gear selector,
02:51so you just toggle it forward for rear and back for drive,
02:56and then the park brake to park the car.
02:59To put it in park, you just put on
03:01the actual parking brake.
03:02Central to the new design of BMW
03:04is this really large, curved screen
03:08that spans almost half the dash.
03:10There is a multimedia system here
03:12that has all of your functions.
03:14On the steering wheel, we have adaptive cruise
03:16and driver assist features over here.
03:19The entertainment and multimedia systems are over here.
03:23And then, it is a BMW.
03:25It gives us paddle shifters,
03:27so you can shift up or shift down.
03:30And they're really long,
03:32and they almost feel Ferrari-style
03:34in the way that they're designed.
03:35One of the great things about the M35i
03:38is when you pull back this right paddle,
03:40you get an extra boost.
03:44There we go.
03:53The X2 M35i is for the person
03:56who's always wanted a BMW and hasn't had one before.
03:59You get that first bonus,
04:01you get that first bump in your big job,
04:03and you want to go reward yourself with a car,
04:05this is the one to do it with.
