McLaren and Lego Team Up for the Ultimate Technic Set

We couldn't have possibly known to put "building a Lego set in the McLaren Technical Center" on our bucket list

00:00McLaren and the LEGO Group have teamed up for their most ambitious collaboration yet.

00:05The supercar manufacturer and the legendary toy company have just announced the latest

00:08Technic kit, a 1-eighth scale model of the McLaren P1 hypercar.

00:14LEGO and McLaren invited us to join them in Woking, England at the McLaren Technology

00:18Center for the debut of the new set, which is made from nearly 4,000 pieces.

00:23It happens to be one of the most complicated LEGO Technic sets ever, complete with an actuating

00:27rear wing, an engine with working pistons, a spinning electric motor, and a seven-speed

00:32automatic transmission, just like the real McLaren P1.

00:37The most significant innovation with this set, which is part of the LEGO Technic Ultimate

00:41Car Concept Series, is the working butterfly doors.

00:45The designers painstakingly recreated the real thing with a mechanism that allows the

00:49doors to open in true-to-life fashion.

00:52As a bonus to checking out this latest Technic set, we also got to take a tour of what is

00:56essentially an automotive holy site.

00:59McLaren displays an incredible collection of its current products, classic cars, discontinued

01:03models, and memorabilia in the foyer of its HQ.

01:07McLaren's production car and racing divisions operate under the same roof, so we had the

01:11opportunity to check out some of the most iconic F1 cars from history, including Senna's

01:15wildly successful MP4-4.

01:19Our day concluded with a build session of the McLaren P1's signature doors.

01:23LEGO's team printed out the correct section of the directions booklet, and gave us bags

01:27with all the right parts.

01:28For those unfamiliar with the LEGO Technic Ultimate Car Concept Series, these models

01:32are a lot more intricate than the traditional LEGO system sets, making the building process

01:36more challenging and rewarding.

01:38So if you're a fan of both LEGO and McLaren, then you can purchase this P1 set starting

01:42on August 1st, for just under $460.
