00:00New South Wales has announced big changes to trading and events held on Anzac Day from 2025.
00:06Retail trade and music festivals on Anzac Day will be banned in the state to curb
00:11creeping commercialism, according to Premier Chris Minns.
00:14We believe it's crucially important in ensuring that we commemorate our diggers
00:18and use Anzac Day in particular as an opportunity to respect those that have served their country.
00:24Retail trading will be prohibited from 1pm to midnight,
00:28with exemptions for small businesses and some non-retailers.
00:32This includes establishments like markets, cafes, chemists,
00:36news agencies, takeaway restaurants and pubs and clubs.
00:40To extend that I think puts greater burden on New South Wales residents
00:45in terms of trying to manage their life.
00:48A national poll by the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association
00:52revealed only 17% of people shopped on Anzac Day,
00:56with most supporting the decision to close shops.
