North West Cambridgeshire MP Sam Carling delivers his victory speech.

00:00May I, first of all, thank the returning officer and everyone who's worked here at the count

00:13and at the polling stations for all they've done to deliver this election, especially

00:17with that recount. I'd also like to pay tribute to all of the other candidates running fair

00:23and clean campaigns. There's been no personal ratios of any sort, which is exactly how politics

00:29should be done. I want to thank Shailesh in particular as well for all of his service

00:34to this constituency over the past 19 years. I'd like to thank my activists and volunteers

00:48for all of their work, particularly Christine, who has just done so much on this campaign.

00:53And of course, I want to thank every single resident that came out to vote for me today.

00:58Your trust means so much to me and I promise you I will work as hard as I can to repay

01:03that trust. What we've seen here tonight is nothing short of a political earthquake.

01:10Never before has North West Cambridgeshire returned a Labour MP, but in this election

01:16residents from across our area have heard Labour's message of change and agreed with

01:21it, including many people who haven't voted Labour before. Well, I was going so well myself

01:28in quite early stages when I looked at this feature some hours ago, but it does seem that

01:33Labour has won this election and therefore I'm hugely looking forward to getting to work

01:38on restoring Britain's public services and reclaiming our country's future. There's

01:44lots I'm optimistic about tonight and I will do everything I can to deliver the change

01:49our country has voted for. Geir Stolman's transformation of the Labour Party has been

01:54remarkable. He has put country before party and has transformed Labour from a party focused

02:00on itself to one back in the service of the British public. We have campaigned as a change

02:06Labour Party, ready to change Britain and we'll get to work immediately with our first

02:11steps of change. Thank you very much.
