00:00So how does it feel to win in Chesterfield again?

00:04Well, I'm delighted with the result and it's a great honour for me to be the Member of Parliament.

00:10I think that we now, for the first time, have the opportunity to be a Member of Parliament with a Labour government

00:16and I think that that will make a real difference to us here in Chesterfield.

00:19So, yeah, it's a really exciting result for me and I can't wait to hear all the rest of the results coming through the rest of the night.

00:27Yeah, it seems like Labour is doing really well across the nation. Did you expect that?

00:33Well, I was hopeful. I mean, the opinion polls have been good. We've seen a very positive response on the doorsteps

00:39but we're also very conscious that many people in Chesterfield and indeed across the country,

00:45I think as a result of the way that this government conducted itself, had really lost confidence in the whole political process

00:55and we were hearing that on the doorsteps too. So, you know, we've now got an opportunity to rebuild that confidence

01:02and it's one that we take very seriously.

01:04We've put a programme in front of the British people. We've clearly been elected on the basis of that programme.

01:09Bring down NHS waiting times, take action on the cost of living, set up GB Energy, bring rail back into public ownership.

01:20I think it's a substantial programme and my hope is that we're able to deliver on that programme and rebuild people's confidence

01:28that politics can make a real difference.
