00:00Boston Grammar School were the winners of a debate hosted by Scania's Grammar School.
00:05OK, Boston Grammar School, congratulations on winning this year's debate. How are you feeling?
00:11Wonderful. Very excited.
00:14What was your favourite topic?
00:16I think I enjoyed the last motion the most because I feel like a lot of the stuff that I've learnt
00:21watching and sort of following this election, I've brought in and it was quite fun to use.
00:26Yeah, and there's been quite a lot of drama with this election, hasn't there?
00:29Most definitely.
00:30So, do you think you will want to do more debates at school?
00:35Oh, definitely.
00:36Yeah, that's pretty fun.
00:40I'm Robert Thompson and I teach maths but I also lead on debating at the Grammar School at Skegness.
00:45Now, we've just had another exciting debate at Skegness Grammar School. How do you think it went?
00:50I thought it was very entertaining, informative and all the people involved, both the judges, the staff
00:56and the pupils gained so much from it and we all got a lot of information about politics, about morals
01:04and about how to communicate with humour, which was the main thing I thought.
01:08Yes, there were some quite lively debates. What was your favourite?
01:12My favourite one was the comedy one, the pineapple on pizza and the science which was brought into play
01:19and the Italian quotes from it I thought were best.
01:23That was it. There was so much input in that. It was very, very entertaining, wasn't it?
01:31It was.
01:32Now, how many schools were actually involved?
01:34We had three schools. We had Skegness Grammar School, we had Boston Grammar School
01:39and we had King Edward VI from Spilsby and we had two junior teams from our school as well
01:45who stepped in at short notice for other schools who unfortunately couldn't make it today.
01:50Yes, and they really did rise to the challenge, didn't they?
01:54They excelled, they did. It was heartwarming to see how much they enjoyed it, how much they were at ease
01:58and how well they did, yes.
02:00Skegness has been beaten again by Boston. Are you going to be working hard to change that next year?
02:06Well, yes indeed. Last year, our competition, we were the victors last year
02:10but I quite agree it would be nice to be retaining that title, regaining the title rather, next year
02:16but you're right, Boston are very strong on debating and they have won other competitions as well
02:20particularly Boston High School, yes.
02:22Well, congratulations on a successful event.
02:25Thank you.
