00:00:00Yes, hello and welcome back to the UIPM TV for the continuation of the 2024 Pentathon
00:00:18Junior World Championship.
00:00:21We had the women's and men's final yesterday and today it's all about the team V-Day Mix.
00:00:27Should be a fun one.
00:00:29I think the athletes do have a bit of fun with that as opposed to the individuals.
00:00:33I am joined by Alida Vandermeer, South African athlete and expert commentator here in Alexandria.
00:00:40Weather conditions, 30 degrees Celsius.
00:00:43It's pretty sunny out here and it has to be said the wind has been picking up the past
00:00:48couple of days but today I feel like it's more stagnant and it's a bit hot here in Alexandria.
00:00:55Alida, welcome.
00:00:56Yes, thank you very much, Miriam.
00:00:59It is a bit of a hot day today but I think athletes have sort of got used to the weather
00:01:04throughout the week and like you said, today is quite a fun day and I think everyone is
00:01:08looking forward to just having fun with the sport and sort of trying a new format but
00:01:13let's see what the athletes can give us today.
00:01:16There was a cool shot there of the medals, gold, silver and bronze up for grabs.
00:01:23These athletes in pairs, of course, we have a male and female athletes and as always the
00:01:29females get us underway and as always, it is the same format, just essentially split
00:01:35in two, isn't it?
00:01:36Because you have fencing bonus round and the fencing racking round that occurred this morning
00:01:41but the fencing bonus round, it's one bout for each per gender and again, a winner stays
00:01:48on format.
00:01:49A total of two wins on the bonus round and then you can move on to the next set of athletes.
00:01:55Then it is off to the obstacle course.
00:01:59Each athlete goes through the entire course and as soon as they touch the buzzer, the
00:02:07other athlete can make their way out and then it's off to the pool, 100 meters per gender
00:02:13and then back to the laser run course where each gender is going to run a total of three
00:02:17times 600 meters and shoot two targets.
00:02:22So talk us through what's happening now, Alida.
00:02:25Yes, so athletes are just almost near the end of the general warm-up.
00:02:30Yeah, we'll get back to that, sorry to cut you out there, but those are the ranking round
00:02:35results.
00:02:36Fencing ranking round took place two hours ago.
00:02:40German athletes and team on top there, 32 victories and 16 defeats.
00:02:45Khalil and Shaban from Egypt in second place and France in third and they're all pretty
00:02:51close together, just one win separating each team and I think Germany is in a good position.
00:02:58Yes, Fernandez and Lei, they're currently in first position with 244 points.
00:03:04We did see Lei, the male athlete yesterday in the final and showed us really promising
00:03:09performance and missed Fernandez in the final, so it is going to be, I think, a chance for
00:03:14her to redeem herself in this competition and that's essentially what this mixed relay
00:03:18is.
00:03:19If you don't make it to the final, you have the opportunity to, you know, perform in this
00:03:22mixed relay.
00:03:23That's where you can redeem yourself and come back home with a medal, hopefully.
00:03:26So that will be their goal today and it all comes down to the obstacle course, as we saw
00:03:32yesterday.
00:03:33Athletes, they changed their positions up significantly, so.
00:03:38Yeah, that's correct and I mean, as you said, the mixed relay is a chance for these athletes
00:03:43to pick up medals and some of the teams do have eyes on medals and just some other teams
00:03:49are focused on gaining experience for their younger athletes, like the team from South
00:03:53Africa.
00:03:54You told me earlier, we're here for the African Championships and thought it would be a good
00:03:59opportunity for them to make their debut in the juniors.
00:04:02Yes, so we have two athletes from South Africa, Tatiana Tomatos and Jaycee Skuman.
00:04:08So this is their first international debut and they are up first on the bonus round.
00:04:13So it will be great to see fellow teammates here and they are up against Chinese Taipei.
00:04:19She and Wu are the two teammates they'll be up against.
00:04:23So first up, we have the female athletes, Tomatos on your right and she on your left.
00:04:31Yeah, Taipei versus South Africa, so the winner stays on format, the females will get us underway
00:04:38and again, a total of two points per team to move on to the next bout.
00:04:44Just checking that the electrical wiring is okay with the team from Chinese Taipei.
00:04:53Switch up of the weapon there.
00:04:55Yes, so earlier on today, all the athletes, I think it was about 12 o'clock, they all
00:05:01fenced against each other in sort of like a ranking round just to get that base of the
00:05:07ranking for the fencing and now this is essentially just the bonus round where they have to get
00:05:12one point against each other, two victories per team and the winning team says goodbye
00:05:17to the other team as they welcome the next highest ranked fencer.
00:05:23And this is essentially where we see athletes who try to build up their ranking from the
00:05:29fencing and you can score some extra points, so it's never too late even if you sort of
00:05:34lower up in the fencing ranking, but it does seem as if there's some technical issues
00:05:40with the fencing here, we do know how technical the support of the sport is, it all comes
00:05:47down to the equipment.
00:05:50I think they're going to change the electrical wiring here and we'll get underway, but just
00:05:58to reflect back on the fencing results, we have Germany on 32, Egypt on 31, France on
00:06:0530 and then Korea on 28, so a bit of a drop off from France to Korea, but again just those
00:06:10two wins which is essentially equivalent to around 12 points and with the obstacle course,
00:06:18it's pretty easy to make that up, especially if you have a fast course, so those 12 seconds
00:06:23are essentially 6 seconds on the obstacle course, so 3 seconds per gender that can be
00:06:30made up.
00:06:31So it looks like they're ready to start, it is only 30 seconds this fencing round, usually
00:06:41it's 1 minute but now halved down to 30 seconds, so we wait for the ref to set them off.
00:06:49Chinese Taipei with the time priority, let's not forget.
00:06:54So that essentially means if time runs out, Chinese Taipei will win the point, but Tiana
00:06:59is right there, searching for the blade and it's a point for Taipei, so that's one point
00:07:08to Taipei, South Africa still has another chance if they get two points with the men.
00:07:15So South African athletes, they're a bit inexperienced, they haven't really made their
00:07:21way to the juniors, I think this is their first time in the juniors actually, and yeah
00:07:26very talented in the laser run department, but maybe this is their chance and their shot
00:07:32to improve on their fencing and gain that experience in a competition that is, it is
00:07:39a strong competition, I mean this is the world champs and you have world champions competing
00:07:44in the team relay mix and just a fence against those fencers in itself is an achievement.
00:07:50No that's definitely right Miriam and as we set off we have Sukumon on your right and
00:07:56Wu on your left, Wu really has quite the nippy footwork there, so Sukumon will have to put
00:08:01some pressure on.
00:08:04Yeah Wu trying to make his way, now it goes for a flush and it is a second touch for Chinese
00:08:12Taipei and they move on to the next bout.
00:08:15So Chinese Taipei without one win, which is equivalent to two extra points, and again
00:08:28a good chance for the team from South Africa to join on a world championship stage, but
00:08:35it was a fast reaction there from Chinese Taipei and I think it helps to have that quick
00:08:41footwork because then you can launch yourself forwards and yeah relying on that footwork
00:08:47I think is really important as the team from Lithuania make their way up now, we'll be
00:08:53starting with the men this time.
00:08:57So Lukas Kutisius up against Chi-Yan Wu and off we go, walk us through this Alida.
00:09:09Yes so we can see both opponents with French grips here so that essentially means extra
00:09:14length but...
00:09:15There's a difference in tempo between those two athletes.
00:09:19Tempo and length I can see, but it seems Wu is really light on his feet and waiting to
00:09:24prepare for that attack, searching for the right timing and he goes for the foot but
00:09:27misses and goes again and it's a point for Lithuania, I think just the timing there from
00:09:34Wu.
00:09:36Yeah I think got pressed for time and things get scrappy when that happens, but Chinese
00:09:42Taipei still in with a chance of winning this bout, they need two points and she is up next
00:09:49for Chinese Taipei and Anastasia Kamchaitse for Lithuania.
00:10:03So Lithuania versus Chinese Taipei, Chinese Taipei with one win on the bonus round but
00:10:09it's 1-0 now, Lithuania versus Chinese Taipei and if you're Xi right now, are you going
00:10:17to go for the attack or are you going to wait for that defense?
00:10:22That appears to be my answer.
00:10:24So this now gives both teams a chance to get a point.
00:10:28They're level on points aren't they?
00:10:30Yep so Kamchaitse should go for the attack, put some pressure on as she's doing now, pushing
00:10:37Xu towards the end of the piece, looking for that blade and she goes for the flesh and
00:10:42it's a point for Xi, she found the right timing on Kamchaitse's step forward and that is essentially
00:10:50key in fencing in pentathlon, sort of that timing for the flesh, timing for the defense
00:10:57and as you can see there, she's just waiting for a step forward for that flesh timing.
00:11:03So just for people watching and are new to the sport, fencing is a very tactical sport,
00:11:10it is physical but it is mainly tactical and you might wonder, oh they're starting the
00:11:15bout, no one's making a move, why aren't they making a move?
00:11:18So just explain how that goes because obviously you have to maybe entice your opponent to
00:11:24come in, open up that distance, close up that distance, why do they take so much time to
00:11:28get that touch?
00:11:29Well I think it could be a lot of things, especially if you know your opponents really
00:11:34well, you're sort of waiting for that right timing to do that action but I think essentially
00:11:40it's firstly reading what your opponent is doing and you sort of have to throw a few
00:11:44things here and there, applying pressure, seeing what your opponent is going to react
00:11:48to with that.
00:11:50Now we welcome the next athlete from Turkey, on your right, Kalikan on your right, Xi on
00:11:59your left, so team of Turkey with the priority, won't be in a position to put a pressure on
00:12:06so she will be looking to attack, she's searching for the blade and right timing there, I think
00:12:12both athletes are wary of when to go but the time is running out so someone has to react
00:12:17and it's Xi of Taipei.
00:12:19Yeah that was a good defense from Xi into a counter four and yeah Turkey had no chance
00:12:27there, I think she was frantic but at the same time she was in control and it's off
00:12:32to the men now, Taipei with one, Turkey with zero.
00:12:38I stand corrected but I remember you Miriam have been fencing on the bonus round here
00:12:43with the mixed relay, I mean you were here for a numerous amount of rounds, I think it
00:12:47was seven, seven rounds, it was incredible so it can be done folks, it really can be
00:12:53done.
00:12:54Yeah absolutely, I mean team effort as well, I think you motivate each other as pairs and
00:12:58I think that's the interesting part about the mixed relay and team from Turkey is looking
00:13:05for that attack and they both have quite quick footwork out which is, yeah, walk us through
00:13:10the Salida.
00:13:12So the athlete from Turkey is looking for that right timing, he is searching with the
00:13:16blade, must be searching for the open gap and it's Wu of Taipei, they are on a roll
00:13:23today and might be giving us a round for the money.
00:13:27Yeah making up some good points here, again they're in 12th place, they made up six seconds
00:13:34but the team from Lithuania is on 20 victories and yeah it's going to take some run here
00:13:41for Taipei to move up the rankings.
00:13:46We do see generally in the bonus round those athletes who are ranked low in the fencing
00:13:52can climb up and I think it's sort of, you put your mind aside with maybe not the best
00:13:59ranking round and go again for the next discipline and that's ultimately what Pintathlon is about,
00:14:05putting each discipline aside, one discipline is done, next discipline is up for the challenge
00:14:11So yeah I think that's also highlighted in the new format since transition times are
00:14:16very short, the only thing you can do during that time is recover well and make sure you
00:14:22have your kit on, you don't really have time to focus on the results and I think with the
00:14:27old format you kind of digest that a bit and maybe that increases the nerves.
00:14:33Yeah no definitely and I think just a whole mental reset for the next, but as we welcome
00:14:38our next athletes from the team of the Philippines, Roman on your right.
00:14:44Yeah that is Roman's first Junior World Championship, but it is up to the men's now, Wu versus Roman.
00:14:57Roman is in the grey area but it's she who goes for the flesh and he gets that point.
00:15:02He is on fire with his fleshes today and like I said I think he's just put aside his ranking
00:15:08round and you know trying something different in the bonus round.
00:15:11Yeah absolutely they're looking unstoppable up on that stage and again the sun is in their
00:15:16eyes, maybe not the best of conditions for fencing bonus round as it's now down to the
00:15:25women, we have Juliana Shane Sevilla against Yijing Shi, Taipei with that one win.
00:15:38The team of the Philippines can still win this round, it's up to Sevilla on your right.
00:15:45Light footwork as we see before, she will be waiting for Shi to attack but it seems
00:15:51as if Sevilla is applying the pressure, pushing her towards the back of the piece.
00:15:56Yeah she is I think looking for a way in now, trying to close up that distance, opening
00:16:02it up again, trying to entice really her opponent to go in, it's another flesh but Sevilla was
00:16:08ready for that one, opened up the distance nicely, it is a counter attack so it's 1-1
00:16:14now, next point wins.
00:16:17Will Sevilla do the same tactic or will she change it up a bit, that is the challenge
00:16:22with fencing but it seems as if she's now waiting for Shi to attack but more passive
00:16:26with her footwork.
00:16:28Yeah she's really not pushing towards her opponent now, she's waiting for her to make
00:16:34a move, she wants that defence, she knows if the clock ticks down it is going to be
00:16:38her point, she goes for an attack, it's a double touch at 5.8.
00:16:43She knows that, Shi from Taipei really knows that, time is up and it's Sevilla who opens
00:16:50up the gap brilliantly there and gets the point, great performance there from the team
00:16:56of Philippines as they say goodbye to the team of Chinese Taipei and Chinese Taipei
00:17:00have moved up a bit so congratulations to them but we now welcome the next team from
00:17:06Poland who is ranked 8th currently, Karbonowicz and Klimek.
00:17:13Yeah, Karbonowicz was 12th yesterday, Klimek was 34th and actually not the best defences
00:17:22and we could see here in their individual results, he got 10 victories and 14 defeats
00:17:30in the fencing ranking round, Karbonowicz with 13 victories and 11 defeats.
00:17:37Maybe with a point to prove here Poland, they got a team medal yesterday, actually two team
00:17:43medals in both the men's and the women's, I think looking for another medal here, mixed
00:17:50relays, anything is possible at this stage, it's a team effort and maybe a bit easier
00:17:57considering that the effort is split amongst two athletes but here we go, Karbonowicz on
00:18:03the left, a very strong fencer, quick with her blade and her footwork as well, Siviya
00:18:08again opening up the distance, waiting for her opponent to make a move although she doesn't
00:18:14have that time priority anymore so Karbonowicz is the one who's really more relaxed at this
00:18:20stage, it's 6 seconds on the clock, Karbonowicz really trying to make her come in and Siviya
00:18:25goes for the flesh but Karbonowicz took a step back and kind of eased into that touch,
00:18:30Karbonowicz was calm and she seemed very focused, so it's 1-0 for Poland.
00:18:36Yes, no, Karbonowicz really played that well, I mean she knows that she had the time priority
00:18:40so sort of creating a bit more distance for her in the case that her opponent attempts
00:18:47to attack and she can just step all the way back towards the piece, so that's a great
00:18:51tactic there from her and I think that is what, I mean that's what you learn throughout
00:18:55doing all these bonus rounds on pentathlon, you sort of learn all the tricks and what
00:19:01to do in these situations but now we have the next athlete from Poland, Klimek on your
00:19:07left.
00:19:08Yeah, Klimek on your left and Roman on your right, one win for Poland so far, the next
00:19:23touch does win Poland the bonus round if they do get it but it is going to be level
00:19:28if Philippines get the touch, it's 15 seconds on the clock, no major moves yet, they're
00:19:33still at the centre of that piece and it is a lunge forward from Roman and it is 1-1,
00:19:40level on points now, the next touch wins the bout.
00:19:44Again, 30 seconds on the clock.
00:19:50We do notice Klimek is also a left-handed fencer so that generally changes things up
00:19:54for a right-handed fencer as we said before but Klimek is applying pressure, Roman is
00:20:00entering that grey area, will he wait for that forward and go for the lunge but it's
00:20:04Klimek who gets the point on Roman's step forward so as we can see, it's the essence
00:20:12of timing here in fencing and we say goodbye to the team of Philippines.
00:20:16Yeah, I was just going to say there, you can see on the graphic on the right, the differences
00:20:21between the teams aren't that large, I mean one second separating Poland from Hungary
00:20:27and I think one more win on the bonus round will definitely put them in a good position
00:20:32above Hungary in 7th place but I think any one of these athletes has a chance of a podium
00:20:38here, I mean Germany, Egypt and France look to be ahead of the competition, maybe put
00:20:44in Korea as well but yeah, don't rule out anyone just yet.
00:20:49Yeah, we still have a very exciting obstacle course to commence and that also can really
00:20:58change things up as we've seen in this competition but we now welcome the team of Hungary.
00:21:05Yeah, so on for Tarkany and Zora Zeman, we get started with the men, Klimek versus Tarkany.
00:21:16Tarkany also with that, he's left-handed but yeah, no touch.
00:21:24But it's a different style we see from Tarkany.
00:21:30Yeah, very defensive as well, looks like he's strong with the blade, it's a bit scrappy
00:21:34but it is Tarkany with the touch.
00:21:37I think very hard to get by, closes up that parry quite nicely and it's tough to push
00:21:43against that.
00:21:44And I say different style meaning I think we see Tarkany maybe holding his weapon in
00:21:49a different stance as what we usually see but that's not to say that I think that's
00:21:55holding me in an advantageous position because sometimes you just don't know what to do against
00:21:59defenses with that so it just creates that level of unpredictability and what's going
00:22:04to happen so I mean that's just the exciting part about fencing or the trick to it, I guess
00:22:11sort of learning all the different styles and what comes with it.
00:22:14But we now welcome the next athlete, Kobovnik from Poland.
00:22:22So team of Poland can still get a point here as we know and Kobovnik is a strong fencer.
00:22:29Yeah, it's 1-0 for Hungary so far but you're right, one touch from Poland and they're both
00:22:34level on points.
00:22:35Poland is looking aggressive here, trying to push seven to the back of the piece.
00:22:39This is similar to what she has done before and the lunge Kobovnik goes for, it's 1-1
00:22:45and she looks like she's ready to go.
00:22:48Yeah, definitely she's going in with a plan and just attacking with that and we'll be
00:22:54looking for that right timing again but Zeman seems to be awake and it's a double point
00:22:59flesh from Kobovnik.
00:23:02Just asking to adjust that blade, the angle of the blade.
00:23:07Sometimes it can bend towards the other side doesn't it with a hard touch.
00:23:15She's quite aggressive here but Zeman is opening up the distance.
00:23:20She has to be careful with the back of the piece now but it is Kobovnik winning that
00:23:25bout for Poland.
00:23:26She got two against Zeman and moves up into seventh place now.
00:23:32Just one point separating seventh and eighth but if Poland do manage to win a second bout
00:23:39here, sorry a third bout here, they will be extending their gap between them and Hungary.
00:23:48So quick replay then Kobovnik again.
00:23:52Strong with that attack.
00:23:55Really lunges with power and it seems like that explosive power is something that she works on.
00:24:04Yeah and I think it's also something that we learn in pentathlon fencing, sort of drilling
00:24:09in those important movements, the hand first, executing every single movement that you plan
00:24:16to do but we now welcome Li Mingke from Canada.
00:24:23Also French group fencer.
00:24:26And Canadian with a...
00:24:30In the grey air at the moment but loses her grip there.
00:24:35No I don't think it's a touch.
00:24:37I think it was, yeah it was a free out which means after the judges stop the match and
00:24:47we reconvene again.
00:24:48She's in trouble now.
00:24:49Canada goes to the back of the piece, goes for a flush, doesn't get the touch.
00:24:54And it is Poland.
00:24:58It's 1-0 for Poland now, it's up to the men.
00:25:01Poland looking happy, look at them.
00:25:03So that must have been, so the rule is your opponent fleshes and runs past you, the defending
00:25:12opponent can just do one action back towards whoever fleshed so I think that is what the
00:25:17case is there from Kobovnik.
00:25:21So it sort of has to be one action not two jagged actions so that must have been the
00:25:26point in that situation.
00:25:28But Chou is now on your right for Canada.
00:25:33And so Conny on your...
00:25:36Klimek on your left, apologies.
00:25:40Also both left handed fencers.
00:25:43Klimek looking strong here, they're on a roll, built up momentum now, he knows if he gets
00:25:47that one touch he will be moving forward to the next spot and he wants to close up
00:25:52that distance between the top six athletes.
00:25:54But it is Chou, goes for the flesh.
00:25:58They're level on points now so it's 1-1 Canada to Poland.
00:26:02Poland I think in trouble here but Canada is looking good on the bonus round.
00:26:08See different socks as well, red and white.
00:26:12But Klimek now applying the pressure, pushing him to the back of the piece.
00:26:15Chou is keeping that distance within good range but it is going to be Chou again.
00:26:21Sounds like a defensive leader.
00:26:23Yeah definitely I think Chou has sort of found a good rhythm there.
00:26:27He sort of feints to the low line and attacks to the high line and really executes that well.
00:26:33We now welcome, as you just see the replay, goes for the low line and up to the high line.
00:26:39That's just all about timing really isn't it?
00:26:43Distracting your opponent as well right?
00:26:48It seems as he does it again for the second time.
00:26:52That's pentathlon fencing sort of having those set of actions you can execute perfectly.
00:26:58And just finding that right timing every single time.
00:27:00But we now welcome the team of Italy.
00:27:03They're currently in fifth place.
00:27:05They had 26 victories and 22 defeats.
00:27:08Teresa, Gioia and Edoardo Ventricini.
00:27:17Teresa Gioia was 22nd yesterday and I think she's going to look to redeem herself here.
00:27:22I think what she faced yesterday in the obstacle course I think was a bit of an issue.
00:27:28I think she had to redo one of those obstacles.
00:27:32But hopefully a good run here could mean that Italy has a chance at the podium.
00:27:37As for Ventricini, this is his first ever international competition.
00:27:44Again, so it's nice to see inexperienced athletes joining in the mixed relay and actually they're performing well.
00:27:52Yeah, and just getting that extra experience.
00:27:55But all we see is Cao going for that same action.
00:27:58I'll be really interested to see this.
00:28:00But it seems that Cao is applying the pressure.
00:28:04To be fair, Cao looks like he's coming from a fencing background here.
00:28:08His tactics are very well thought out.
00:28:12But it's no touch at 11 seconds now.
00:28:15Italy with the time priority, just checking distance.
00:28:18Is adequate.
00:28:20Eight seconds on the clock. Cao is trying to get in there and he does.
00:28:25It is against the weight of Ventricini.
00:28:30Cao with the win.
00:28:31That's up to the women now.
00:28:42This is the second junior world championship.
00:28:53I think you told me that Conor Cao has actually had some experience in that area.
00:28:58Yeah, I think as I can recall, Cao has been doing a couple of mixed relays or relays.
00:29:05As we can see junior world champs and the team mixed relay in the under 19 world championships in Istanbul.
00:29:10So he does have this experience here.
00:29:12But now see his teammate.
00:29:15Andrea is very quick on the pace there.
00:29:20There's small little movements that she's doing.
00:29:23But it's going to help her propel herself forward that she does get a touch.
00:29:27Flash forward from Italy against Canada.
00:29:30It's 1-1 now.
00:29:31The next bout or the next touch win the bout.
00:29:36And again, Canada with that French grip.
00:29:39Joia on both feet here.
00:29:43She's nimble.
00:29:44She's fast.
00:29:45It's 20 seconds on the clock.
00:29:47She has time and she has.
00:29:49She can't afford to move back a bit.
00:29:53It looks like a touch on the leg there.
00:29:59Joia seems to be offensive.
00:30:01Has really fixed her arm in that position.
00:30:03And that could be really helpful.
00:30:05I mean, less mistakes and it sort of closes your arm off there for hand points from your opponent.
00:30:12So great form there from Joia.
00:30:15We'll see if we could get a replay.
00:30:19We do see here.
00:30:22That's the first touch.
00:30:24Goes for a flash and gets it.
00:30:27Another angle there.
00:30:28But yeah, quick footwork.
00:30:30Yeah, just on the knee there.
00:30:32On the step back.
00:30:33I think if your hand is in that midline, you can go in the highline or the lowline.
00:30:38So you're ready for any action that your opponent is going to go for.
00:30:43Yeah, but we now have Shin on the right from Team of Korea.
00:30:47Also a left-handed fencer.
00:30:51Joia.
00:30:52Shin goes for the flash and gets the point there.
00:30:56Yeah, Shin actually was in good form yesterday.
00:30:58She had a slip-up in the obstacle course and had to repeat one of the, I think it was the tilting ladders.
00:31:05And still got a time of 46 seconds.
00:31:08So she is quick on the course.
00:31:12And Korea are currently in fourth place.
00:31:15And they're actually just 12 seconds off of first.
00:31:18So gaps are pretty tight.
00:31:20Anything is possible with this next relay.
00:31:25Yeah, no, you're right there, Maryam.
00:31:27And we all are waiting eagerly for the last discipline where we can see all the excitement wrap up.
00:31:34But we have the men up and going.
00:31:37Kim on your right.
00:31:41He does have a bit of a different style too.
00:31:45I think also trying to confuse his opponent a bit.
00:31:49Yeah, we talked about this this week.
00:31:51Behind the fences like Muhammad al-Gimli.
00:31:53Yeah, a bit all over the place.
00:31:54And he goes for the flash.
00:31:55It's a touch for Korea.
00:31:57And we say goodbye to the Team of Italy.
00:32:00Yeah, Korea is looking good here.
00:32:01I mean, closing up that gap as well.
00:32:03We said they were 12 seconds behind first.
00:32:05And now they've closed that down to 10 seconds.
00:32:09Yeah, no, they seem to be a potential threat to Team of France.
00:32:13If they keep going this way.
00:32:18Kim will stay on the piste.
00:32:21And be up against Lavilla of France.
00:32:28Yeah, he was 6th yesterday.
00:32:31And competing alongside them is Mizon Kazeli.
00:32:36She was 4th yesterday.
00:32:37And she was bronze in the last Junior World Championship last year.
00:32:42And actually has some success in the team relay mixes.
00:32:45And actually that was in the senior level.
00:32:48She got a gold in Budapest at the World Cup with Brice Loubet.
00:32:56Yeah, we know Mizon Kazeli has also been in the women's relay.
00:33:01Qualifications and finals.
00:33:03So this is a really long week for her.
00:33:06This is the end of the season for the juniors.
00:33:09So I think they can afford to really push hard at the final stages here.
00:33:13Korea versus France.
00:33:15And already Korea is pushing France to the back of the piste now.
00:33:20He's looking aggressive.
00:33:21I don't think he's going to wait for a defense.
00:33:23He goes straight for it.
00:33:25And it is Korea again.
00:33:27He's aggressive.
00:33:28And I feel like that really confuses his opponent.
00:33:32Yep, no, definitely.
00:33:33I think he has that essence of distraction.
00:33:37And that sort of unpredictability of when he's going to flash.
00:33:41And that is perfect for executing one's flash.
00:33:45But we now welcome Mizon Kazeli on your left from the team of France.
00:33:54Korea is in a position to sort of take over France.
00:34:00But let's see what Kazeli can do for her team.
00:34:04Kazeli just finished off the podium yesterday.
00:34:07So I think she has that extra bit of hunger for that touch.
00:34:10But Korea.
00:34:11Three seconds.
00:34:13Great point from Shin.
00:34:16This is dangerous for the field up top.
00:34:19France, Egypt and Germany under pressure now from Korea.
00:34:22We know how fast Shin is on the laser run course as well as the obstacle course.
00:34:27So expect that gap to close down.
00:34:30But Korea are really on a roll here.
00:34:38Now welcome the home nation team of Egypt.
00:34:43The Egyptians were the stars yesterday.
00:34:48I think with three medals on the podium.
00:34:51And a world record in the obstacle.
00:34:53Let's not forget that.
00:34:54Mustapha Bouamir.
00:34:56You got that right.
00:34:58Farida actually I think was in contention for gold at some point.
00:35:03I think it was the shooting that really let her down.
00:35:07Hopefully she can turn things around here.
00:35:10We do know she is a younger athlete in this field.
00:35:14So we'll be walking away with precious experience from this competition.
00:35:20And her future career as a pentathlete.
00:35:24But athletes are off.
00:35:26Will Shin be attacking again?
00:35:28She does not have priority.
00:35:31Priority is with the team of Egypt.
00:35:34And Shin is applying her pressure.
00:35:40Went for the third.
00:35:41Didn't quite get the touch.
00:35:42It's all about getting the touch.
00:35:44No matter how you do get it.
00:35:48It's almost as if Khalil paused for a second.
00:35:51And Shin just went for that last action.
00:35:54Trying to avoid the blade at all costs.
00:36:01Farida's blade is hard to get by.
00:36:04She has a strong upper body as well.
00:36:08So it's really hard to take that blade from Farida.
00:36:12Meza Chaben up next.
00:36:14She had a good performance yesterday.
00:36:16Just off the podium as well.
00:36:18He was 8th.
00:36:20And got gold in the team event.
00:36:26Kim versus Chaban.
00:36:28Chaban again quick on his feet.
00:36:30And I think gets the genetics of good fencing from his brother as well.
00:36:34And it's a flash for Chaban.
00:36:37It is 1-1.
00:36:40Sort of at a different side that he flashed past.
00:36:46Yeah, you're right.
00:36:48It's kind of unfair to flash on that side.
00:36:51If you're a right-handed fencer, what was that touch?
00:36:54Karia really went for the lunge.
00:36:57But Meza Chaben jumped up high.
00:37:00And it's a double touch.
00:37:01It was in the first second as well.
00:37:03Kim applying pressure here.
00:37:05But Chaban is looking good.
00:37:09He was supreme from Korea.
00:37:11Now supreme from Egypt.
00:37:12And finished things off nicely in front of their home crowd.
00:37:15I think one of the favorites for gold in this competition.
00:37:19Just one second away from Germany.
00:37:21And if they do manage to get past Germany,
00:37:23they will be leading the way heading into the obstacle course.
00:37:26And let's not forget, Meza Chaben held the world record yesterday
00:37:31for about 5 minutes.
00:37:33Meza Chaben crushed that and went under that 23-second mark.
00:37:38So we know Farida's record as well.
00:37:42So Chaban and Farida are looking like a quick time on the obstacle course.
00:37:47Germany now lay on the piste against Chaban.
00:37:52Chaban is changing up the tactics a bit here.
00:37:55Again, distracting his opponent.
00:37:57But making his way ever so closely to his German compatriot.
00:38:03And it goes for another flush and lead.
00:38:07I don't know why he's thinking he was off the piste.
00:38:12But it was a flush there from Chaban.
00:38:17They will have a chat to the ref.
00:38:23Just liberating that point there.
00:38:27Or even testing the piste.
00:38:30But it all comes down to the ref's decision.
00:38:37So the rule is that the piste has to be neutral with the electric connection.
00:38:46And that does cause some mishaps at times.
00:38:51As you can see, just plugging in the isolation cord to the piste.
00:38:57Still working. I don't know what the issue is.
00:39:01But it's always so unfortunate.
00:39:04Because right now you are quite sure of your point that you received.
00:39:08And it's just unlucky that the piste...
00:39:10But they are on and off again.
00:39:127 seconds left.
00:39:13Chaban needs to flush and he does so.
00:39:15But Ley gets the second intention action there.
00:39:19Distance was closing up.
00:39:21And I don't think that Chaban really calculated that correctly.
00:39:24Or measured it correctly.
00:39:26But again, still in with a chance.
00:39:28Egypt is for winning the bonus round.
00:39:31But it's up to the women now.
00:39:33Esther Fernandez from Germany versus Farida Khadil.
00:39:39We know that Esther has a strong laser run.
00:39:43She received a gold medal in the Laser Run World Championships in Bath.
00:39:48Indication to a strong laser runner.
00:39:52And a potential threat here on the team.
00:39:56She will be looking for a podium position.
00:40:00Very unfortunate to not make the final.
00:40:03And she and her teammate are here to prove a point.
00:40:08Up and ready.
00:40:10I was just going to say sorry to interrupt you there.
00:40:12But not making the finals.
00:40:14Maybe that gives you an extra rest day.
00:40:17It's a double touch at 23.
00:40:19But maybe that extra rest day gives her a bit of extra energy.
00:40:23Against Farida Khadil.
00:40:25I mean Farida Khadil did the women's relay.
00:40:27She's done the individuals.
00:40:29And now the mixed.
00:40:33Point there for Khalil.
00:40:37We'll get to see a replay after this point.
00:40:41So both athletes still have a point against each other.
00:40:46But Fernandez goes for the second intention action there.
00:40:50After Khalil's lunge.
00:40:55And as we know you should never stop until the ref says halt.
00:41:00And I think that is something we all learn just growing up with fencing.
00:41:07Again deliberating the point.
00:41:09I think it goes to Germany here.
00:41:11Farida seems to have an issue with that.
00:41:15We'll get back to you with that.
00:41:19Since they salute their opponents.
00:41:25They have to submit to that touch.
00:41:29And Germany wins the bonus round.
00:41:31Extends their lead by four extra points now.
00:41:33Just five seconds separating Germany and Egypt.
00:41:36So things are still in that tight zone.
00:41:41Yeah it was the second intention.
00:41:44Like I said I think sometimes we think we get the lunge.
00:41:48But here is our results.
00:41:50Germany and Egypt separated by five seconds.
00:41:52And then another five second drop off to France and Korea.
00:41:56Just two seconds behind France.
00:41:58This is going to be a close race.
00:42:00Everything is going to switch up probably after that obstacle course.
00:42:04But all eyes on the...
00:42:07How much further down would you go for podium positions Alida?
00:42:13I mean all the way until sixth position.
00:42:16It's only about 10, 15, 20 seconds difference.
00:42:21Like we saw in the obstacle course.
00:42:23And it's going to be different now with the relay.
00:42:26Because you either have a teammate who is excellent in the obstacle.
00:42:31Or one that is not.
00:42:33So it's all up to the obstacle course.
00:42:35So that concludes the fencing action here in the team relay mix.
00:42:39Let's take a look back at the highlights from the fence before we move on to the obstacle course.
00:43:09So we are back and leaving the bonus round now.
00:43:37And heading into the obstacle course.
00:43:39Who do you think is pleased with their performance on the bonus round the most?
00:43:45I would say team of Chinese Taipei.
00:43:49I mean they picked up a few points there.
00:43:51And they were on the bonus round for quite a while.
00:43:54But I think Germany too.
00:43:56They were in third position.
00:43:58And I think they picked up a few crucial points.
00:44:00Yet Germany did a great round there.
00:44:04So I think they are going into this obstacle course in a comfortable position.
00:44:08In first place so far.
00:44:12But like I said Chinese Taipei really picked up some good points.
00:44:16So let's see the start list for the obstacles.
00:44:19Yeah we have a little bit less heats than we had yesterday.
00:44:24We had 36 athletes and a total of just 30.
00:44:30Sorry my math isn't that great.
00:44:32Sorry 26 athletes today.
00:44:34And the first heat will only feature South Africa.
00:44:38Teams from South Africa will get us underway.
00:44:41And we have 7 heats in total.
00:44:47And yeah.
00:44:49So team from South Africa will be starting us off.
00:44:52And then we move up the order.
00:44:55And heat number 7 will have our two leaders Egypt and Germany.
00:44:59And again some crucial points can be won or lost here on the obstacle course.
00:45:04I mean one slip up.
00:45:05You can try a risky move.
00:45:07And it's high risk high reward.
00:45:09But also it is quite risky.
00:45:14But we actually strapped a camera to one of the athletes a couple days back.
00:45:18And we have a run through of the obstacle course from an athlete's perspective.
00:45:22And we'll just walk you through that.
00:45:24Up the steps.
00:45:25Big wheel.
00:45:26Over.
00:45:27Under.
00:45:28And through.
00:45:29And into the tilting ladders.
00:45:31And with the men you see some quick transitions there.
00:45:34Heading into the balance beam.
00:45:36Which we won't be having for this team.
00:45:38It was a technical issue.
00:45:40But into the small wheels.
00:45:42And then the rings are the penultimate obstacle.
00:45:48And then it's up the final wall.
00:45:50And with the buzzer.
00:45:52It ends the round.
00:45:53And so there are going to be two rounds per team.
00:45:56Right, Alida?
00:45:57So we have the women's up first.
00:45:59And as soon as they hit the buzzer, the men can leave their positions at the gate.
00:46:02Yep, that is right.
00:46:04And I think that POV was really helpful.
00:46:07I mean just to get an idea of what the athletes are in for with this new discipline.
00:46:12I think it is important to know that there are eight obstacles, as you can see.
00:46:18And we saw yesterday that the finish wall was something that was quite a challenge towards the end.
00:46:25It is the last one.
00:46:27So just that final push to get up on there.
00:46:29And we have seen a few techniques where athletes sort of skip a wheel or skip a ring.
00:46:35Mostly with the men as well, right?
00:46:37Yep.
00:46:39So we will be having a look at what we can see today.
00:46:42But we see a team of South Africa.
00:46:45I am happy to see them here.
00:46:49Tomatoes and Sukuman.
00:46:54Yeah, a team from South Africa.
00:46:57Young athletes and maybe compete in the laser run events.
00:47:01But using this competition as one to gain experience.
00:47:07And as always, we start with the women.
00:47:10Tatiana, Tomatoes.
00:47:16And out she goes.
00:47:18Steps 1, 2, 3, 4.
00:47:20We might see a bit of a slow around here again.
00:47:23These athletes haven't had too much experience with the obstacle course just yet.
00:47:27Heading into the tilting ladders now is Tatiana.
00:47:30And yeah, just really focusing on getting through the course and not necessarily getting through with that much speed.
00:47:38I mean, getting through is the most important part.
00:47:41So you don't want to get eliminated at this stage.
00:47:44Yep, no, you're right, Maryam.
00:47:46And I think it's still a new discipline.
00:47:49And athletes have been just really focusing on the basics of this discipline.
00:47:53And that is grip strength.
00:47:54And Tatiana, I must say, is doing a great effort here with the tilted ladder.
00:47:59Swings through.
00:48:01Runs through to the wheels.
00:48:03Wheel 1 goes to wheel 2.
00:48:05Swings to wheel 3.
00:48:07She's quite young as well.
00:48:08Yeah, and I think she's showing some promising performance here.
00:48:12I'm really looking forward to see her in the future.
00:48:14And she's up on the rings next.
00:48:18You can see she kind of goes at it one-handed.
00:48:22And then propels herself forward.
00:48:25And it is up the wall now.
00:48:26She needs to hit that buzzer fast so her teammate can get off the gate.
00:48:30And she does it.
00:48:32And it is Skuban now in the obstacle course.
00:48:38Over, under, and through.
00:48:41And he goes into the tilting ladders now.
00:48:44It's a bit faster from Skuban here.
00:48:48Yeah, I think that was a great effort.
00:48:50I mean, doesn't have the tilted ladders at home.
00:48:53But really flying through the course.
00:48:57Yeah, into the rings he goes.
00:48:59Will he skip over one? He does.
00:49:01Will he skip over the next one? No.
00:49:03Chooses the safe route here.
00:49:05Skips over.
00:49:07And up the wall he goes.
00:49:10This is going to be a joint time here.
00:49:12Propels himself up the wall and hits the buzzer.
00:49:15It is a time of 1.16.
00:49:20I mean, even with the time,
00:49:22I think they could be really proud of themselves going through the course.
00:49:26As I said, we all know this is a new discipline.
00:49:29And still getting that experience and exposure to all the obstacles.
00:49:33And I must say, I think throughout the course of the week,
00:49:35they've had a chance to try the tilted ladders out a bit.
00:49:39And sort of experiment with those styles.
00:49:42So, really happy for the team here.
00:49:47As we look at the replays, we will be welcoming the next heat up.
00:49:51Team from Lithuania and Chinese Taipei.
00:49:55So we will start off with the ladies.
00:50:00Yeah, ladies up first.
00:50:03We have Kanchaity and Shi, who will be starting us off.
00:50:08And great smiles there.
00:50:10Ready to start off with the obstacles.
00:50:16So just waiting for the starters.
00:50:20First whistle.
00:50:22Set.
00:50:23And athletes are off to the steps.
00:50:27And a leap into the wheel.
00:50:30Through the over, under and through.
00:50:34Speedy work here from Lithuania.
00:50:36First ladder swings through.
00:50:38Flies through to the next one.
00:50:41Yeah, this is looking quicker than the South African team.
00:50:44Probably those who are a bit more experienced under their belts.
00:50:48And no balance beam for this team.
00:50:50Really mixed due to a technical difficulty.
00:50:52But Lithuania is looking good here.
00:50:55Into the rings she goes.
00:50:57And will she skip over?
00:50:59She does.
00:51:00One more ring.
00:51:02And she's going to have to run up that wall fast now.
00:51:04So her partner can get off the gates.
00:51:05She does.
00:51:06Pushes her way up and hits the buzzer.
00:51:09It's a 41 second run for her.
00:51:11But Lithuania, look at that pace in him.
00:51:14And he is looking like he is in good form.
00:51:17Into the tilting ladders.
00:51:18Let's see how he fares here.
00:51:21Almost slipped up in that second ladder.
00:51:23But is looking okay here.
00:51:25Into the wheels now.
00:51:27One, two, three and four.
00:51:29And look at that form.
00:51:31Skips over the first one.
00:51:33Into the third.
00:51:34And actually, that's all he needed.
00:51:36Goes up the wall now.
00:51:38Time has to stop when he hits the buzzer.
00:51:40And it is 71.5 seconds.
00:51:43That is the best time of today.
00:51:45Chinese Taipei still on course, Alida.
00:51:48Yeah, the tilted ladders is a challenge here.
00:51:52But we see Wu is swinging through.
00:51:55Running to the wheels.
00:51:58Flies through them.
00:52:00Holds up for the second one.
00:52:02And I do think because he struggled with the tilted ladders.
00:52:05Those arms are hurting.
00:52:07But he does not give up.
00:52:08He goes to the rings.
00:52:10Grip strength is so crucial here.
00:52:12And I think also that momentum.
00:52:14That continuous forward momentum.
00:52:16As he runs for the finish wall.
00:52:18And touches at one minute.
00:52:21120, 112 seconds.
00:52:23Apologies.
00:52:25But great effort there from Lithuania.
00:52:27We really do see that skipping of.
00:52:30For example, rings or hoops.
00:52:33Does make that big difference.
00:52:35And that forward continuous momentum.
00:52:37Not sort of swinging back.
00:52:39That forward continuous movement.
00:52:42And I think where the athletes lose the most time.
00:52:45Is probably those tilting ladders.
00:52:47As soon as you lose that momentum.
00:52:49It's really hard to gain that back.
00:52:51Especially in an obstacle of that difficulty.
00:52:54Turkey and the Philippines up next, Alida.
00:52:58Yes, we have Sevilla and Roman from Philippines.
00:53:02Who will be in lane A.
00:53:05Had a good bonus round too, if I recall.
00:53:10Team of Turkey, Calican and Tasia Ran.
00:53:16Yeah, team of Turkey also youngsters.
00:53:18Making their way into the junior scene.
00:53:23Women are up first now.
00:53:27Roman from Philippines actually should be quick on course.
00:53:30Note that the obstacle course is kind of their arena.
00:53:33Goes over the wall does Sevilla.
00:53:35As well as Turkish athletes.
00:53:38Into the tilting ladders now.
00:53:41It is going to be a bit slower.
00:53:44But again, better safe than sorry.
00:53:47Into the second ladder.
00:53:49They're pretty much at the same stage here.
00:53:52Really struggling I think to push forward to the third ladder.
00:53:56I think one big swing there.
00:53:59But we do see how hard it is to recover from stopping that momentum.
00:54:03But well done from both athletes.
00:54:05On to the wheels.
00:54:07Real 1, 2, 3 and 4.
00:54:10Team Philippines is on to the rings.
00:54:12Ring 1, she goes to the second ring.
00:54:16Calican on a roll there too.
00:54:19But Philippines runs for the finish wall.
00:54:22She needs to get up there fast.
00:54:24So her teammate can get off that start finish line.
00:54:27She does so in 57 seconds.
00:54:29And we should see faster time with the men.
00:54:32Over, under and through.
00:54:34This is by no means going to be the fastest time of the day.
00:54:37But it's looking better here for the Philippines.
00:54:39Making up some time Roman.
00:54:42We can see the team of Turkey also flying through the tilted ladders.
00:54:46But it is the team of Philippines who is only just at the rings.
00:54:49And almost about to finish.
00:54:51Skips a ring.
00:54:54Yeah, skips another one.
00:54:56And it is the final wall now.
00:54:58Running up that wall.
00:54:59It's crucial to get up there and hit that buzzer.
00:55:01It is 91 seconds.
00:55:03So 20 seconds away from that best time.
00:55:06And it's a 40 point difference as Turkey makes their way to the final stages of their course.
00:55:13Now up the wall they go.
00:55:16It's a slow finish but it is a time of 1.08.
00:55:26Yeah, so good performances from the Philippines and the team from Turkey.
00:55:31Where are they currently sitting?
00:55:33Well, they're sitting in 9th and 10th.
00:55:37And they have a way to go if they are to make podium positions.
00:55:42But never say never here in Pentathlon.
00:55:45As we see the higher ranked athletes making their way now to the obstacle course.
00:55:51Yes, we welcome team of Poland, Kolbovnik and Klimek who will be in lane A.
00:55:57We can see them with the obstacle course gloves which does give that extra grip.
00:56:01Team of Hungary, Zemen and Tarkanyai.
00:56:06In lane B for us.
00:56:11Team from Hungary, Zora with a 14th place finish yesterday.
00:56:17Kolbovnik also doing well and in they go.
00:56:20Big wheel done.
00:56:22Over, under, through now.
00:56:23This is looking quicker than the rest of the team so far.
00:56:26Going into the tilting ladders.
00:56:28Are we going to see a change of technique?
00:56:29Kolbovnik falls over.
00:56:31She has to go back around now.
00:56:32I think she was risking it with that ladder.
00:56:34But the team from Hungary is looking good here.
00:56:36Again, no balance beam.
00:56:38And into the wheels.
00:56:39The wheels, 1, 2, 3, 4 are cleared.
00:56:42Is she going to skip a ring?
00:56:43She looks like she's taking the safe route as well.
00:56:45But skips over one here.
00:56:47Goes into that final ring and jumps over.
00:56:50It's up the wall now.
00:56:52She needs to get this as fast as possible.
00:56:54She does.
00:56:55And the team from Hungary are on their way to a good time here.
00:57:00Over, under, through for Tarkanyai.
00:57:03That really cost team of Poland a few points there.
00:57:05But it will be team of Hungary making their way to the wheels.
00:57:10Team of Poland have just set off to the start for the men.
00:57:14To the over, under and through.
00:57:16But it is the team of Hungary finishing up with a finish wall.
00:57:20It is a fast time here.
00:57:22I think this is one of the best times we received today.
00:57:24That is the best time of the day actually.
00:57:2665 seconds the time for the team from Hungary.
00:57:36So Poland make their way up the wall now.
00:57:45Poland finishing their course.
00:57:47And it was unfortunate to see Kerbovnik miss out on the start of the tilting ladders.
00:57:53So it is going to set them a little bit back.
00:57:55And I thought that Poland had an outside chance of podium finishes.
00:57:59But I think that puts it down to their chances Alida.
00:58:02I do agree with that.
00:58:04I think Kerbovnik, like you said, she was going for that skip of the ladder.
00:58:09And I think it would have done them a good effort.
00:58:13But I think it is just a risk.
00:58:15But we now welcome our next heat.
00:58:17Team of Italy.
00:58:21So Teresa Gioia and Edoardo Ventricini.
00:58:27RB and the team from Canada.
00:58:31Minky Lee and Connor Chow.
00:58:34They had a good run of the bonus round as well.
00:58:37This team is looking good.
00:58:39We haven't seen them on the obstacle course.
00:58:41Haven't seen them in the finals of the individuals.
00:58:43Hopefully they can do well for themselves here.
00:58:46I mean they are in a good position.
00:58:48They are currently in 6th place.
00:58:526th place.
00:58:55Off they go, Italy and Canada.
00:58:57Over the steps, into the big wheel.
00:58:59Italy is looking fast here.
00:59:01I think Gioia had a good time yesterday in the individuals.
00:59:04And over, under, through are done.
00:59:06Into the tilting ladders now.
00:59:08A bit of a difference in style.
00:59:10Look at Canada flying through this course now.
00:59:12Teresa still falls back there.
00:59:15And that does mean she needs to go all the way back.
00:59:18Yeah, she needs to redo the tilting ladders.
00:59:21But Gioia well on her way here.
00:59:23Into the wheels, done and dusted.
00:59:25And into the rings.
00:59:27She lost a bit of momentum there.
00:59:29But skips out on one ring.
00:59:31And skips out on a second one.
00:59:33Needs to make her way up that wall pretty fast now.
00:59:35It is going to be a quick time for her.
00:59:37Probably not the quickest time of the day.
00:59:39But it is 40 seconds as her teammate is off now.
00:59:41And this is looking good for the team from Italy.
00:59:45Into the tilting ladder.
00:59:47Skips a whole ladder by the way, Alida.
00:59:49Interesting technique.
00:59:51I think he can make some time up here.
00:59:53Skips another wheel.
00:59:55This is looking like great technique from Italy.
00:59:57You can see just how much power goes into that.
00:59:59Up the wall he goes.
01:00:01This could be the fastest time of the day.
01:00:03It is, yeah, 64.
01:00:05Just under that 65 second mark.
01:00:08Canada still on course.
01:00:10And actually just finished the tilting ladders here.
01:00:13Into the wheels, actually skips over.
01:00:15This is good technique from the Canadians.
01:00:17Skips over.
01:00:19This is insane.
01:00:21Goes up now.
01:00:23And hits the buzzer.
01:00:25It is going to be a time of 88 seconds for the team from Canada.
01:00:29It is a good effort.
01:00:31They recovered well after that fall.
01:00:33Like we said, we will see a few slips here and there.
01:00:37Very unfortunate.
01:00:39It is quite crucial.
01:00:41But the team of Italy flew through this course.
01:00:43Made some air time if I could say.
01:00:47Yeah, Bertrucini was looking good there.
01:00:50And actually Canada was out of your shot with Cao,
01:00:53but he was incredibly fast.
01:00:55I think, dare I say this, that could have been a world record
01:00:59if he had done it with individuals, right?
01:01:01Yeah, definitely.
01:01:03We now welcome Heat 6, team of France,
01:01:06Louison, Caselli and La Villa.
01:01:09Team of Korea in lane B,
01:01:11Shin, Su-Min and Kim Han-Seong.
01:01:15Yeah, France currently in that third spot.
01:01:17Korea in fourth.
01:01:19Separated by a few seconds.
01:01:21And Shin is a fast one on the course.
01:01:24Caselli has a good time.
01:01:25But if Shin doesn't make any mistakes here,
01:01:28this could be a fast time for Korea.
01:01:30Over the wheel she goes.
01:01:31Caselli is looking incredibly fast.
01:01:33Shin struggling with that over wall.
01:01:35But they make it through the wall now
01:01:37and into the tilting ladders.
01:01:38This is great stuff from Caselli
01:01:40as she starts to swing forward.
01:01:43Now losing a bit of momentum.
01:01:44But still, it's a good run so far.
01:01:46Korea is making a run for it.
01:01:48In with a bit of a lead.
01:01:49But they enter the wheels together.
01:01:52Done with the fourth wheel
01:01:53and into the rings they go.
01:01:54Let's see if any of them choose to skip over.
01:01:57Korea chooses to.
01:01:58And France does too as well.
01:02:00This is going to be a quick time for these women.
01:02:02They head over to the wall now.
01:02:04It's going to be Korea at that first buzzer first.
01:02:06But France isn't too far behind.
01:02:08Korea is out of the blocks with the men.
01:02:11And France is as well.
01:02:12And might be catching up to Korea actually.
01:02:15Going into the tilting ladders now.
01:02:17Again, very interesting technique.
01:02:19Lost a bit of momentum on that second ladder.
01:02:21Did Korea.
01:02:22France is looking good here.
01:02:23Swings forward.
01:02:25And head into the wheels together.
01:02:27One, two, three, four.
01:02:28And France is pulling out quite the lead.
01:02:30Skips over the first ring.
01:02:32And that can be beneficial for them
01:02:36as they make their way up the wall now.
01:02:38This is going to be a fast time.
01:02:39Not quite the quickest time.
01:02:40It is going to be 71 seconds.
01:02:42And a 75 second time for Korea.
01:02:46They're in third and fourth.
01:02:48Do you think they're going to be moving down the order
01:02:50after that performance?
01:02:52Well, I think we just have to wait for the swimming.
01:02:54But I must say this was quite an interesting obstacle to watch.
01:02:58Because I mean, we haven't seen quite yet
01:03:00where the males could catch up and sort of get back.
01:03:05And you can see Team Korea did start off first.
01:03:07And great comeback there from Team of France.
01:03:15And we now welcome the last heat, Heat 7.
01:03:20In lane A, we will have Team of Germany.
01:03:23Fernandez and Lei.
01:03:26Yeah, they're looking good in first place now.
01:03:29They extended their lead after that bonus round
01:03:32with four extra points.
01:03:34Team of Egypt, we have Khalil and Shaban in lane B.
01:03:38This will be an interesting one to watch.
01:03:40We know both athletes from Team of Egypt
01:03:44have shown promising results.
01:03:45But let's see what this last heat can prove for us.
01:03:48Yeah, look at Farida.
01:03:50She is going to fly through this course.
01:03:52The sheer strength in her upper body
01:03:54as she propels herself over that first wall
01:03:56and into the tilting ladders now.
01:03:58And look at that technique from Farida
01:04:00as she flies over and makes a run for it.
01:04:03Now into the wheels she goes.
01:04:05One, two, three, and four.
01:04:07Into those rings now.
01:04:09She's going to skip over a few.
01:04:11She's done that in the individuals.
01:04:13And replicating that here is going to make a big swing forward.
01:04:15This is going to be an incredibly fast time for her.
01:04:17I think this is going to be faster than her individual time.
01:04:20It is 31 seconds.
01:04:21And I think that's a new world record.
01:04:23But seeing as this is in relay, I don't think it will count.
01:04:25But Mezen Shaban is on his way now.
01:04:28I think this is going to be the fastest time of the day.
01:04:31And loses momentum there.
01:04:33Might cost him, but he's still on a roll.
01:04:36Goes to the wheels, skips a wheel,
01:04:38flies through, makes his way to the ring,
01:04:40skips the ring,
01:04:42swings through,
01:04:44and rushes for the finish wall.
01:04:48It is going to be the fastest time,
01:04:50but it's 60.69 seconds.
01:04:53And I'm interested in Farida, to be honest.
01:04:55But let's take a look at the team from Germany.
01:04:57Still in good form here,
01:04:58but they will be definitely dropping down
01:05:00from that first-place position.
01:05:02And I think that's going to go to Egypt
01:05:04after that incredible run.
01:05:05It's a 73-second run for Germany.
01:05:08But, yeah, Farida.
01:05:11Oh, my word. 31 seconds.
01:05:13She broke her record three times in this competition.
01:05:16Once in the qualifications, once in the finals,
01:05:19and that's the one that counts.
01:05:21And one here in the relays.
01:05:23I'm honestly not sure if that counts as a new world record,
01:05:26seeing that it is in the relays.
01:05:29But, again, she is getting faster by the day.
01:05:34That concludes the team relay mixed obstacle course.
01:05:39And look at that. Egypt is out on top
01:05:41and actually pulled away from everyone else.
01:05:44Germany is in second place,
01:05:47but it is 21 seconds separating them now.
01:05:50And I think that is a lead that they want to keep.
01:05:53I mean, both of them are good swimmers as well,
01:05:55but let's not rule out the team from Italy and France.
01:05:58They're, well, from second all the way down to sixth,
01:06:02I'd say, are in with a chance.
01:06:04All the way down to Korea.
01:06:05Germany, Italy, France, Hungary, and Korea.
01:06:08Predictions? Early predictions?
01:06:10But...
01:06:11Egypt gold, for sure.
01:06:13I think that we might have a laser run start
01:06:17as what we had with the females yesterday,
01:06:19which is sort of first three teams are quite comfortable
01:06:24in their positions and then that big group start.
01:06:27Yeah, I mean, Egypt are in a league of their own now
01:06:30and I expect that gap to increase after the swim as well.
01:06:33But I feel like those top six athletes,
01:06:36so from second all the way down to sixth, have a chance.
01:06:40I mean, they're separated by almost 15 seconds, that gap.
01:06:43And things might switch up after the swim, we'll see.
01:06:46And, again, it's going to be 100 metres per gender for the swim.
01:06:51But before we get back to that,
01:06:53we will take a quick look at the highlights from the obstacle course.
01:07:23Yes, we are back.
01:07:48Obstacle course is done and adjusted.
01:07:51And we move over to the pool now
01:07:53for the heats of the 200 metre freestyle.
01:07:56Again, it's 100 metres per gender and, as always,
01:07:59the women get us underway.
01:08:02And I think, so we have 13 teams
01:08:05and they're going to be three heats, aren't they, for the swim.
01:08:09And, yeah, we could see a couple of switch-ups after the swim.
01:08:13But as of now, Egypt look to be in fine, fine form.
01:08:16They're currently leading the way and doing so in good fashion.
01:08:20I mean, 21 seconds above the team from Germany.
01:08:24And we're expecting that gap to open up after the swim as well.
01:08:28They're both incredible swimmers.
01:08:29Farida, by the way, has a time of 2.12.
01:08:33She's 12 years old.
01:08:36That is fast. That is very fast.
01:08:39I think we just can't wait to see what she can show us in the future.
01:08:46Yeah, so before we get back to that,
01:08:49let's take a look at one of the interviews we had
01:08:52with the Under-17 Laser Run World Champion, Alia Aboufoutoua.
01:09:00Welcome, Alia Aboufoutoua, once more to URPM TV.
01:09:03It's always nice to have you,
01:09:05our Under-17 Laser Run World Champion and future champion, I guess.
01:09:10You're here watching the Junior World Champs
01:09:12and we're in that transition time between the swimming and the laser run.
01:09:16And we're asking you specifically because we know you're fast on track.
01:09:19How do you transition from the swimming to the laser run?
01:09:23Do you focus on nutrition? Do you focus on recovery?
01:09:25What do you do in that time?
01:09:27I would recommend that you should focus on your nutrition and your recovery.
01:09:31Maybe it's a short period of time, like 15 to 30 minutes.
01:09:35You have to drink a lot of water, your electrolytes,
01:09:38you have to have your food with you.
01:09:40You have to keep the energy.
01:09:43Okay, incredible.
01:09:44And again, you are an Under-17 athlete
01:09:47and you will be competing in the Under-17 World Champs later on this year.
01:09:51And we're in the Juniors, so you're seeing the older generation maybe.
01:09:55And how does that motivate you in your training
01:09:59and looking forward to your own competition?
01:10:03Seeing big athletes, that they're enjoying their time,
01:10:08doing big achievements.
01:10:10You get super motivated that they're having fun
01:10:13and they feel proud and it's an honour.
01:10:15So yeah, it feels good.
01:10:17You also get motivated that you want to go back to swimming and running
01:10:21and going back to modern contesting to be better.
01:10:24And watching them also gains you a lot of experience.
01:10:28If they're having trouble, how they get their mental back.
01:10:31So yeah, a lot of experience you can see from outside.
01:10:34So you just mentioned something about mental toughness in general.
01:10:39So going back to the Laser Run, which I know is your best discipline,
01:10:44how do you keep your nerves in that shooting range?
01:10:47Because sometimes it's a mental game more than it is a skill.
01:10:50And we've seen you shoot sub-10-second shoots in the Laser Run World Champs.
01:10:53How do you manage that?
01:10:55First, you have the transition area between the running and the shooting.
01:10:59You have to cool down, go back,
01:11:01because you're going to transition to another thing.
01:11:04You're going from a numerical number
01:11:06to a technique type of sport.
01:11:10So you have to focus, go back to your other mental position.
01:11:14And it's all about mind games.
01:11:16So yeah, it's super fun.
01:11:18So you have to keep concentration until the last dart.
01:11:23Okay, incredible.
01:11:24One more thing, you're Egyptian,
01:11:26so you might favor the Egyptians in this competition.
01:11:29Do you think they have a chance at the podium?
01:11:31I think that we're going to see two Egyptians at the podium.
01:11:35So thank you so much for joining us.
01:11:37It's lovely hearing from you as always,
01:11:39and we wish you the best of luck.
01:11:41Thank you, bye-bye.
01:11:43That was the Under-17 Laser Run World Champion, Ali Abulfatooh.
01:11:47And he's actually going to be competing
01:11:49at the next Under-17 World Championship,
01:11:52which will be, I think, taking place in Portugal, if I'm not wrong.
01:11:57But again, one of those youngsters that we like to hear from.
01:12:01And these are going to be the stars of the future of pentathlon.
01:12:06And yeah, just nice to get a bit of insight from him.
01:12:10We're just over seven minutes away from the swimming.
01:12:14Yeah, no, and I think you touched on a really important point there,
01:12:19and it's just this transition time is really all about
01:12:24how are you going to mentally prepare,
01:12:26how are you going to prepare with your nutrition,
01:12:28warming up for the next,
01:12:29or sort of preparing your body for the next discipline.
01:12:32If it comes to a dry land warm-up, static stretches,
01:12:35or even just what you're going to eat in between.
01:12:38And all of this is what we have to practice in training.
01:12:43It's not necessarily something that you just pick up in the competition.
01:12:47So athletes have been sort of preparing for this moment,
01:12:50for that transition time.
01:12:52Yeah, and I think the training strategy has shifted from,
01:12:55I'm doing five trainings per day,
01:12:57but I'm putting in gaps between the trainings,
01:12:59so maybe two-hour gaps to kind of rest, recover.
01:13:02And now this is shifting.
01:13:04So you actually want to simulate the competition atmosphere
01:13:10and make sure that you can withstand that as an athlete.
01:13:13It takes a lot of endurance.
01:13:14It takes a lot of mental toughness.
01:13:16You really have to be patient with it
01:13:18and be able to get your body to do all these different skills
01:13:24that are required for pentathlon in such a short amount of time.
01:13:28Yeah, no, you're right there, Marina.
01:13:29I think this relay also gives athletes a great opportunity
01:13:33to try their techniques out.
01:13:35And I mean, especially those who are here on their first international debut,
01:13:40this is where they can learn about themselves in the relay.
01:13:44It's not to say that they're not really putting their effort
01:13:47or focus into the relay, but it's sort of, like you said,
01:13:49just learning and experience with that.
01:13:53But as you said, like trying new plans and strategies
01:13:58in the individuals might be a bit risky.
01:14:00Yeah.
01:14:01Yeah, so doing it in the relay probably is the best idea for these athletes.
01:14:06On your screen, you can see the team of Philippines
01:14:09just doing their last preparations before the start.
01:14:12So let's just go over again what athletes are expected to do up next.
01:14:16Instead of 200 meters, they will now each do 100 meters,
01:14:20pass over to their teammate for the next 100 meters.
01:14:24I must say, I quite prefer 100 meters over 200 meters.
01:14:28Yeah, definitely.
01:14:29We're going to see some quick times as well.
01:14:31It is an all-out sprint.
01:14:33It is a different mentality, too.
01:14:36Instead of sort of having that 100-meter pace,
01:14:39you want to go out a bit fast in that first 50,
01:14:44and then that last 50, you just put your head down,
01:14:47probably not even breathe, really, because it is more of like a sprint.
01:14:51So this is my favorite race, if I'm going to be honest.
01:14:56I think the relays in general are just because it's a joint effort
01:15:01and you can build each other up and motivate each other.
01:15:05The whole load is not just on you.
01:15:08Yeah.
01:15:10And again, you're splitting the effort, so it's not a full competition.
01:15:15It's essentially a half one.
01:15:17So you can afford to push harder in the pool, push harder on the laser run,
01:15:23and just, as you said, try some new strategies out, new plans out.
01:15:30We have three heats of this team relay mix here in Alexandria.
01:15:37Four teams per heat, except for that last heat with five teams.
01:15:42So our top five teams now are Egypt, Germany, Italy, France, Hungary, and Korea.
01:15:48I think this is where the competition is going to be.
01:15:52Egypt are looking okay.
01:15:54They have a 21-second lead.
01:15:56I think the competition for silver and bronze is where we'll see the most battles.
01:16:02I know you're right there, Maria Mendez.
01:16:04We have a look at the first heat.
01:16:07Yeah, it is.
01:16:08This is the competition.
01:16:09It's going to be swimming lane number one, Turkey in two,
01:16:13Chinese Taipei in three, and South Africa in lane number four.
01:16:19South Africa currently at the bottom of the order.
01:16:24And those are the athletes and teams competing in heat number one.
01:16:36Again, we have three heats.
01:16:38This is the team relay mix.
01:16:39If you're just joining us now, we are here in Alexandria for the Junior World Championships.
01:16:44We had a very exciting day.
01:16:47It was yesterday with the women's and men's finals,
01:16:51and pretty dramatic was the men's finals, actually,
01:16:54especially when it came to that laser.
01:16:56And we've had switch-ups for gold, silver, and bronze a couple of times.
01:17:00And, yeah, we're excited to see what this team relay mix will bring to the events of this competition.
01:17:08Team for the Philippines out next, Julianna Shane Sevilla and Justy Ryan Roman.
01:17:16Well, if the team's swim time is accurate, they're not the quickest swimmers.
01:17:21They might struggle a bit and lose a bit of points there, but the team from Turkey out next.
01:17:26Yes, we will be seeing Calican and Tasia Ran from Team of Turkey in lane two.
01:17:32Team of Turkey and Chinese Taipei have the fastest seeding time,
01:17:37so we'll be welcoming Xi and Wu.
01:17:41They'll be swimming in lane number three.
01:17:44They had a run in the bonus round, so it was a joy to watch them in the bonus round, I must say.
01:17:51Yeah, it's nice to see a team just going on a run in the bonus round.
01:17:55It just adds to the excitement of the competition.
01:17:59And I'll let you do the introductions here.
01:18:02We welcome Tatiana Tomatos and Johan Conrad Schumann.
01:18:06They'll be swimming for South Africa in lane number four.
01:18:11Yeah, a team from South Africa again.
01:18:14A very young pairing.
01:18:16You're for the experience, Alida?
01:18:18Yeah, definitely.
01:18:20And we haven't had a relay over the years,
01:18:25so I'm really happy for them to be able to do this experience.
01:18:29But we are set for the start of this relay.
01:18:34Athletes will...
01:18:36The females will swim 100 meters.
01:18:39I expect an all-out sprint here.
01:18:41This is sprinting as opposed to the 200-meter freestyle.
01:18:47And right off the bat, it looks like the team from Turkey is pulling away now from the rest of the pack.
01:18:52But keeping by is the team of Taipei and South Africa.
01:18:57They're doing well here, but Turkey...
01:19:00Look at that stroke rate from Turkey.
01:19:02Really holding their breaths in here.
01:19:04Trying to go as fast as possible as they approach the 50-meter mark.
01:19:07Taipei is close by.
01:19:09Who's going to turn on that wall first?
01:19:11It is going to be the team from Turkey, but they're separated by 0.1 seconds.
01:19:15And South Africa actually swimming well here.
01:19:18Yeah, not too far behind them,
01:19:20but it seems as if Taipei and Turkey are going to turn for their last 25 meters.
01:19:26It is the team of Turkey turning first.
01:19:30Yeah, they're going to be handing over to their teammates now.
01:19:34It's up to the men to finish things off here.
01:19:36They are approaching the 100-meter mark,
01:19:39and they will be touching that wall, and you'll see the men flying off the starting blocks.
01:19:43And...
01:19:45Changeover there.
01:19:47Yeah, I think the Turkey changeover might be...
01:19:50I'm not sure if that was a false start or not, but we'll find out.
01:19:54Turkey's in the lead.
01:19:57Chinese Taipei turns for their second 25 meters.
01:20:01Looking for a stroke rate here.
01:20:04Yeah, Turkey is well away from the rest of the competition here.
01:20:10Chinese Taipei changes over for their teammate.
01:20:14On to the second 50.
01:20:16This is where it gets rough.
01:20:18Legs are getting tired.
01:20:20It is a sprint.
01:20:22We'll see heads down for this last 25 as Turkey turns over.
01:20:27Good underwater there.
01:20:29And if it is a false start, it's going to be 10 seconds off the score,
01:20:32so we really need to put a good time in here if he is to make up that gap.
01:20:36And Taipei is trailing behind,
01:20:38but it's going to be less than that 10 seconds that they will be losing.
01:20:42Hibanch touching the wall. It is a time of 2.02 for the team from Turkey.
01:20:46And Chinese Taipei.
01:20:48Team of Taipei edging in, finishing there.
01:20:53Yeah, it's a time of 2.07 for them,
01:20:56and a quick finish for the team from South Africa.
01:21:05Those are the top three teams of this week.
01:21:08Just waiting on the team from the Philippines,
01:21:11and touches the wall now.
01:21:13Good effort by the team from Philippines.
01:21:17There's all the teams here competing in heat number one.
01:21:23We'll wait for confirmation on these results.
01:21:27As you can see, the replays of the women who started us off here.
01:21:34Yeah, women started strong,
01:21:36especially the team from Turkey featuring Idrar Kalikan.
01:21:42And actually Chinese Taipei with Xi was pretty strong out there in the pool.
01:21:48But as we handed over to the men here,
01:21:51Turkey were really putting away for the rest of the pack,
01:21:54and came home at a time of 2.02.
01:21:59These are the provisional results now.
01:22:02Turkey leading the way, Philippines in second place,
01:22:05and actually look at that gap now.
01:22:07It has opened up, and then Chinese Taipei in third,
01:22:11and South Africa in fourth again.
01:22:13Two more heats to go,
01:22:16but Turkey now we're being informed has an official fall start,
01:22:20so they will be moving 10 seconds back.
01:22:23Yeah, very unfortunate there from them.
01:22:26I can just imagine what was going through the athletes here,
01:22:28just wanting to get off as quickly as possible.
01:22:31We now see heat number two about to start.
01:22:36Yeah, Korea, Lithuania, Poland and Canada.
01:22:41Korea in that sixth place now,
01:22:45and with a chance of podium finishes here.
01:22:49Korea, I think, have a good swim time as well.
01:22:53Yeah, we now welcome Shin and Kim of Korea.
01:22:57Swimming in lane number one.
01:23:00The team from Lithuania now,
01:23:02Anastasia, Kanchaity and Lukas Kodisius,
01:23:06making their way out.
01:23:10They're in seventh place,
01:23:12but it is a bit of a drop-off between sixth and seventh,
01:23:15so they do need a quick swim time here
01:23:17if they are to put themselves back into contention.
01:23:22Lane number three, we welcome Karpowicz and Klimek of Poland.
01:23:27Yeah, it was unfortunate, the slip-up that happened with Karpowicz there.
01:23:30It looks like it was going to be a quick time for Poland,
01:23:33but again, risk versus reward.
01:23:35Karpowicz chose to skip over the tilting ladders,
01:23:39and yeah, that's what caused her to go back round.
01:23:42We do that obstacle.
01:23:47Welcoming team of Canada,
01:23:49Lee Minky and Chow Connor.
01:23:52It's great to see this team here in the mixed relay,
01:23:56and showed us promising performance in the bonus round
01:23:59as well as in the obstacle course.
01:24:02Connor Chow was flying through those different obstacles there,
01:24:06but all eyes on heat number two now, the middle pack.
01:24:11The four teams again from lanes one to four,
01:24:14Korea, Lithuania, Poland and Canada.
01:24:19Athletes on the blocks, primed and ready.
01:24:21Into the pool they go for the first hundred metres now for these women.
01:24:25Who is going to pull out an early lead here?
01:24:28It's looking like it's going to be Korea,
01:24:30but we'll get confirmation as we see them into the tumble turn.
01:24:33Actually, it looks like Poland who's turning first.
01:24:35Korea and Lithuania in second and third,
01:24:39but it is close by between the two of them.
01:24:41Karbownick is really pushing here.
01:24:43She knows she needs to make up time from that obstacle course mishap.
01:24:47Going into the first 50 metres now.
01:24:49This is going to be a quick one.
01:24:50It is 29 seconds, her first 50 metres,
01:24:53and it is Lithuania and Korea in second and third,
01:24:57and not too far behind,
01:24:59but it is just one and a half seconds separating those two.
01:25:02Into that final turn for the women.
01:25:05Karbownick turns at the wall,
01:25:07and she's pulling out quite the lead now,
01:25:09giving an edge for her teammates to finish things off for Poland
01:25:12in with a good swim time.
01:25:14Heading to the wall now.
01:25:15It's going to be the changeover,
01:25:16and again with that gallop style from Karbownick.
01:25:19Seems to be tiring,
01:25:20but it is going to be a good quick swim time.
01:25:22It is a time of 1.01,
01:25:25and Korea touched the wall in second,
01:25:27and Lithuania in third.
01:25:29It's up to the men now, Ljuta.
01:25:31Yeah, a really speedy swim there from the team of Poland
01:25:34as they flip over to their second 25 metres,
01:25:38but it looks as if it's neck and neck between the team of Korea and Lithuania.
01:25:44They have their own little battle, do they?
01:25:46They are, of course, against the clock,
01:25:48but also up against each other somehow.
01:25:51Klimek is really utilising that lead to his own advantage.
01:25:54This is looking fast from Klimek,
01:25:56approaching the 175 metre mark now,
01:26:01and this is the final turn,
01:26:03and they will be touching the wall after this,
01:26:05and we will have some spectacular times.
01:26:08Lithuania has pulled away from Korea now.
01:26:10They're in second place,
01:26:11so it's Poland, Lithuania and Korea in third.
01:26:14Poland approaching the wall now.
01:26:16This is going to be quick for Poland,
01:26:17and actually Lithuania is catching up,
01:26:19but it is going to be Poland to that wall first,
01:26:22and it is a time of 1.58 for Poland.
01:26:24Lithuania in second, two seconds behind,
01:26:27and Korea almost four seconds behind them.
01:26:30This is better from Poland.
01:26:33Yeah, and I think Lithuania put up a good fight there.
01:26:37They were a bit behind,
01:26:40just caught up there at the last bit,
01:26:42but also a good swim from the team of Korea.
01:26:44Should be also a team to look out for in the laser run.
01:26:48Let's not rule them out too early.
01:26:51I think we're going to have a nice little battle
01:26:55between those second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth teams
01:27:01for silver and bronze,
01:27:02and it's all down to the shooting range, as we all know.
01:27:05This is where medals are won and lost,
01:27:07but that is the replay of heat number two.
01:27:10That is the handover from the women to the men.
01:27:13Those three teams were looking great out there on the swim.
01:27:18Strychno-Baltic and their teammate from Poland finishing in first.
01:27:25Lithuania gained a bit on Poland,
01:27:27finished in second, and Korea in third.
01:27:30Let's take a look then at the results
01:27:32and how that changes things.
01:27:34Korea in that first place spot,
01:27:36so they're going to be at least in sixth place.
01:27:39Lithuania in second, Poland in third,
01:27:41Canada in fourth, Turkey in fifth,
01:27:43and Philippines in sixth,
01:27:45Taipei and South Africa in seventh and eighth.
01:27:48This is where the competition for me gets interesting.
01:27:53Heat number three, our top five teams of the day.
01:27:56Egypt, Germany, Italy, France, and Hungary.
01:28:00Egypt with that 21-second lead,
01:28:03but all the other teams in with a chance of a podium finish.
01:28:09We'll introduce the athletes one by one as they make their way out.
01:28:13Welcoming the team of Egypt, Farida Khalil and Mazen Shaaban,
01:28:18who will be swimming in lane number one.
01:28:22It's a good pairing, those two.
01:28:26It's always interesting to see team lay-mix pairings
01:28:30because you want to have that chemistry between the athletes.
01:28:33You want to build each other up and push each other forward.
01:28:37That goes into the fact that they can be successful in their own team lay-mixes.
01:28:43Team from Germany out next.
01:28:46You see Fernandez and Ley from Germany in lane number two.
01:28:51Yeah, Italy swimming in lane number three,
01:28:55currently holding on to that third-place position
01:28:58with a good obstacle course time.
01:29:00Teresa Gioia and Edoardo Ventricini
01:29:05representing Italy well here at the team lay-mix here in Alexandria.
01:29:13Team of France, Louison, Casali and Lavilla in lane number four.
01:29:21Very speedy obstacle course we saw from them
01:29:25and still could be a threat to one, two, three.
01:29:29Yeah, definitely.
01:29:31I think that battle for silver and bronze is still wide open
01:29:34as Hungary make their way out now.
01:29:36Zohar Zeman and Sambor Tarkhani.
01:29:39Good swim here can really make a difference
01:29:42in their starting times for the laser run.
01:29:46But I'm guessing Egypt is going to still be in that first-place position.
01:29:50Both of these athletes are quick swimmers.
01:29:54On the blocks now are going to be the teams of heat number three.
01:30:02We know in this 100 how crucial the start and reaction time is
01:30:06compared to a 200 meters.
01:30:08And they all have fast reaction time from the team of Hungary.
01:30:14Yeah, all pretty much neck and neck now.
01:30:16I think Farida is going to be pulling a bit here.
01:30:19But actually, the athletes in the final, is that the team from Hungary?
01:30:24They're all turning together, so no big differences just yet.
01:30:27But we'll see this with times as they head over to the 50-meter mark.
01:30:30It looks like Farida has a slight lead.
01:30:32But again, they're all separated.
01:30:34Heading over to the wall, it is a 29-second 50 meters.
01:30:38And I think Farida has gained and is leading this race.
01:30:43We should see a minute, a minute two or three from Farida.
01:30:48But she edges her way, makes her way to the wall.
01:30:51Looking for the underwater and goes for her last 25 meters.
01:30:55Puts the head down.
01:30:58Making sure she's sprinting to the end here.
01:31:00She's going to hand over to her partner.
01:31:02And hopefully, we won't have a false start here.
01:31:04Mezen Caben is in the pool now.
01:31:06This is a good handover.
01:31:08You can see the rest of the teams joining in.
01:31:10France and Hungary.
01:31:12Germany as well, jumping in the pool.
01:31:14And it's going to be an all-out sprint for the men.
01:31:16And look at Mezen, he is just flying through the pool.
01:31:18But actually, looking at the team of Hungary,
01:31:22it's going to be an all-out sprint for the men.
01:31:25But actually, looking at the team from France,
01:31:28they're looking to gain on Egypt now.
01:31:31Mezen is just motoring through with that speedy kicking,
01:31:35which is putting him in a really good position.
01:31:38And he turns, goes to the underwater for the last 50.
01:31:43Yeah, Hungary and France in second and third.
01:31:46But it is Chabane holding to that first place spot.
01:31:50And I think Egypt are going to come out of the swim in first.
01:31:53But those three teams battling it out for the second place.
01:31:56Italy, France and Hungary.
01:31:58But Egypt is soaring for that wall now.
01:32:02Final stages of the race.
01:32:04And I think the rest of the teams are gaining on Chabane.
01:32:06But it will be Chabane touching the wall in first place.
01:32:09And who's going to get second and third?
01:32:11It is going to be Italy and Hungary.
01:32:14This puts Egypt in a good position.
01:32:18That was a faster than the seed time, if I have a look at this.
01:32:23I think it's difficult to set a seed time for something
01:32:26because you have two different athletes.
01:32:28And it's kind of unpredictable in terms of what their swim times will be.
01:32:32But that was a very consistent swim time
01:32:35from the athletes of heat number three.
01:32:38Egyptians coming out strong after that swim heat.
01:32:44You would imagine they'll pull out quite the lead out of the laser run.
01:32:50As we know, it all comes down to the shooting in the laser run.
01:32:54That level of unpredictability.
01:32:57As we see the highlights of your last heat.
01:33:01Imagine just eating that water up.
01:33:04Strong finish.
01:33:06I like that.
01:33:07It's a strong finish from Chabane, Italy.
01:33:10It's a strong finish from Chabane, Italy.
01:33:13France and Germany all within good times now.
01:33:16Let's take a look at the current standing.
01:33:18Egypt extending their lead.
01:33:20Look at that gap, Elida.
01:33:22That is 31 seconds.
01:33:27Italy in second, France in third, Hungary in fourth.
01:33:30But it's really the gaps that amuse me.
01:33:33You have Italy all the way down from...
01:33:368.25 Italy sits and then all the way down to Korea
01:33:41are separated by 12 seconds.
01:33:44We are in for a race for silver and bronze medal here.
01:33:48Germany moved down after that swim,
01:33:51but again within an arm's reach here.
01:33:54They're one second away from fourth
01:33:56and only three seconds away from third place.
01:33:59Silver and bronze is still anyone's game.
01:34:02At this point, you have to vouch for Egypt.
01:34:05With that lead, it's going to take a massive effort
01:34:11to catch those two.
01:34:13Looking further down, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th,
01:34:16you can see Turkey moving down after that false start,
01:34:19which is actually disqualified.
01:34:23I'm not sure if that is correct,
01:34:25but we'll get back to that later.
01:34:27Let's take a look back at the swim
01:34:29before we move on to the laser run.
01:34:35This is the laser run.
01:35:05That concludes the swimming discipline here in Alexandria
01:35:32for the mixed relay.
01:35:34And now it's all eyes on the laser run,
01:35:37the ever-exciting laser run.
01:35:39It's going to be fast and frantic, Alida,
01:35:41between those top six teams.
01:35:43It's looking like Egypt is going to take gold as of now,
01:35:46but don't rule anyone out just yet.
01:35:48Second all the way down to sixth
01:35:50still have a chance of being on the podium,
01:35:52separated by only 12 seconds, those teams.
01:35:55Anything could go wrong in the shooting series
01:35:59and could leave for another team to move up the standings.
01:36:03This is the final stop.
01:36:05Medals are won and lost at this stage.
01:36:08This is laser run.
01:36:09This is the Junior World Championship 2024.
01:36:15Mixed relay day.
01:36:17If yesterday was anything to go by Alida,
01:36:19I think we're in with a good race
01:36:21and especially those gaps between second and sixth.
01:36:25Yeah, and I mean,
01:36:26I think that's what we look for in Pentathlon.
01:36:28That is the ever-exciting laser run finish.
01:36:32There's a whole change of positions in laser run.
01:36:35We have staggered starts.
01:36:37We have...
01:36:39And also like the athletes will be pushing harder
01:36:41because they're only doing three times 600 meters per gender,
01:36:45which means they'll be able to go a bit faster
01:36:48than they do in the individuals.
01:36:50And actually we have a quick POV for you.
01:36:52We strapped a GoPro on one of the athletes.
01:36:56It was actually Ali Abou Khattour,
01:36:57the Under 17 Laser Run World Champion.
01:37:00He's going to walk us through this course here.
01:37:02We start at the gate and we move right into the shooting range.
01:37:06It's five green lights.
01:37:08These athletes need to move on
01:37:11and continue on with their course.
01:37:14It's actually a challenging course by their standards.
01:37:19It's pretty straightforward.
01:37:21It's all grass and the turns aren't that tight.
01:37:24It's actually spread out quite nicely here in the stadium in Alexandria.
01:37:28Walk us through this part.
01:37:30If you could fit this in an area where you could overtake,
01:37:33would you wait for the straights?
01:37:35I think wait for the straights.
01:37:37It is quite a flowing course.
01:37:39We do prefer taking over on the straights.
01:37:44I think it's also just that.
01:37:46It's nice to see how far you are with this lap
01:37:51and see where your other competitors are in the course of this race.
01:37:56I think we will see athletes running with spikes off course too.
01:38:01This could be faster times than usual.
01:38:05It is hot here in Alexandria.
01:38:09You will see the ice packs up and on heads,
01:38:12the towels cooling athletes off.
01:38:15It's a bit cooler than in the morning,
01:38:17but still some of the athletes will be feeling the heat.
01:38:21I think for the Egyptians they're used to it,
01:38:23but some other teams might find that a challenge.
01:38:26We've had similar issues in China,
01:38:29but again, these athletes adapt very quickly to harsh conditions.
01:38:33Mazen Shaban in your shot there,
01:38:36just putting on his running shoes.
01:38:38I think he's opting for carbons, Elida.
01:38:41Some of the athletes, I think, are going to choose different footwear.
01:38:44We talked about this in China as well.
01:38:46During the rain, the athletes opted for the spikes
01:38:49since it is a slippery course.
01:38:51Very tight turns as well.
01:38:53What would you use in this course?
01:38:56I think it comes down to athlete's preference.
01:39:01I would always get injuries running with spikes
01:39:05if it was a longer course,
01:39:07but as we know, it is only 300-600m,
01:39:10so I think it depends on if I was doing the individual or the relay.
01:39:16Thank you, Elida, for that insight.
01:39:22Before we get back to that,
01:39:24we had a quick interview with the Yurt twins
01:39:26who competed yesterday in the women's final.
01:39:29Let's take a listen on how that went.
01:39:32Hello and welcome.
01:39:34We have Florina and Katharina Yurt.
01:39:36You guys are carrying the Yurt name Proud and I.
01:39:39Following in the footsteps of your older sister, Anna.
01:39:42It's wonderful seeing you both competing at that junior level
01:39:45and hopefully someday in the seniors.
01:39:47But now we're focusing on this competition.
01:39:49You guys have finished the fencing,
01:39:51you've finished the obstacle course and finished the swimming.
01:39:54Now we're heading into the laser run.
01:39:56It's quite a difficult transition from swimming to laser run, isn't it?
01:40:00Because there's a lot of effort and lactic acid built up in your shoulders and arms.
01:40:03How do you shake that off?
01:40:07First, I try to get out of the pool
01:40:09because it's really hard if you have a lot of muscle hurt.
01:40:14I try to get out of the pool
01:40:17and then obviously try to change me to running clothes.
01:40:22Afterwards, it's like shaking a little bit
01:40:25and running to the laser run
01:40:28because there's not much time between swimming and running.
01:40:32So just easy running to laser run
01:40:36and then get ready for laser run.
01:40:39Okay, perfect.
01:40:40Let me ask you a question.
01:40:42The shooting range can be very tense when it comes to the competition.
01:40:45You have people coming in and out of the range,
01:40:48people screaming and it's a vibe.
01:40:52But at the same time, it might be a little bit distracting for you.
01:40:55So how do you calm your nerves and just focus on your own shooting?
01:40:59I think that's what we train for every training session
01:41:02because we train obviously together.
01:41:05There is a competition going on,
01:41:08so we have that in every session that we train laser run.
01:41:13I think that is what prepares us for the competition.
01:41:20Of course, it's something different than the competition in the end,
01:41:24but it's not completely the same.
01:41:27That's incredible.
01:41:28Just one more thing.
01:41:29So obstacle course is the new discipline now,
01:41:32and it's going to carry through after the Paralympics.
01:41:34How have you guys adapted to that?
01:41:37I know you guys used to ride before,
01:41:39and now it's a whole different story.
01:41:41How do you train and how did you find that transition
01:41:43from riding to obstacle course?
01:41:45So we did gymnastics when we were younger.
01:41:49Now not anymore, but I think that helped us really well
01:41:53with the feeling of our body and the rhythm.
01:41:58Yes, that's what we really like about the new discipline.
01:42:04Unfortunately, Switzerland just got the new obstacle course,
01:42:09so we didn't have much time to do the obstacle in the competition.
01:42:17But what Marina said, we have a little advantage for the obstacle.
01:42:24I think we can both say we feel our body good,
01:42:28so that's what helps in the obstacle.
01:42:32Well, you guys are in the final, so you must be good, right?
01:42:36Okay, so the last thing.
01:42:37You guys are twins, you're competing together
01:42:39and essentially competing against each other.
01:42:41How does that feel?
01:42:42How do you keep that relationship but also still be competitive?
01:42:46Well, I think the best thing is to compete with each other.
01:42:54What I can say, I admire Marina.
01:43:02With every training that we do,
01:43:04we get the pressure that we have in the training.
01:43:09She is a great competitor to me.
01:43:16I have a good competitor for me in every training.
01:43:23I think that's what also helps in the lace run.
01:43:26I'm not too nervous for other athletes against me.
01:43:32Well, it's been lovely talking to you both.
01:43:35We wish you all the luck and thank you for joining us.
01:43:38Thank you. See you later. Bye.
01:43:41That was the interview we had with the Jörd sisters
01:43:44that happened a couple of days ago before their finals.
01:43:48Actually, they've done pretty well for themselves in the finals
01:43:51and looking forward to more success from them.
01:43:54But all eyes now on this mixed relay.
01:43:58Leading the way is the team from Egypt
01:44:01and they're looking good in that position.
01:44:03Almost 32 seconds or 31 seconds separating them from second place.
01:44:08And I think barring any major complication here,
01:44:11Egypt is going to be running home to gold.
01:44:15You are right there, Mariam.
01:44:16Egypt has put themselves in a really comfortable position to start off with.
01:44:20But there will be a challenge and a fight for that silver and bronze medal.
01:44:26Currently, Italy is in second position and France in third position.
01:44:30Only five seconds apart from each other.
01:44:33But Hungary, not too far from them.
01:44:35Two seconds from the team of France in fourth position
01:44:38and Germany in fifth position.
01:44:40Only one second away.
01:44:41So it's anyone's race at the moment.
01:44:44But as we know, it all comes down to the shooting series.
01:44:49Athletes will start with a running lap first of 600 meters
01:44:53and then make their way into the shooting range.
01:44:58As you can see in your shot there,
01:44:59Louisane Cazali showing some promising performance
01:45:02throughout the course of the competition.
01:45:04She could compete in...
01:45:07She has, and you're right, Alida,
01:45:09anyone with that chance of podium finishes here.
01:45:12Egypt has that 31-second lead.
01:45:14It's kind of hard to overlook that.
01:45:17But Italy, France and Hungary,
01:45:19separated by, I'll say, seven seconds
01:45:22and then all the way down to six.
01:45:24They're all separated by 12 seconds.
01:45:26That is basically one bat shooting series.
01:45:29So these athletes are going to be giving us a show
01:45:32for that silver and bronze medal positions.
01:45:35Looking further down, Philippines,
01:45:37China, Taipei, South Africa and Turkey are in 13th.
01:45:42They'll be starting as a pack at 130.
01:45:46Canada, Philippines, China, Taipei,
01:45:48South Africa and Turkey,
01:45:49but they are miles and miles behind the competition.
01:45:53Music has started.
01:45:55Tension is building up now.
01:45:57Egypt know if they keep their nerves in the shooting range,
01:46:00they will be running home to gold.
01:46:02This will be another medal for Farida Khalil
01:46:05if she just manages to shoot well here.
01:46:08And we'll be seeing a 31-second drop off to second,
01:46:12but it's all eyes on the team from Egypt.
01:46:16Three, two, one.
01:46:21And we're off with the team of Egypt.
01:46:23Farida Khalil now on course
01:46:25and expect her to push hard here.
01:46:27She knows she has that 31-second advantage,
01:46:30but still wants to secure her spot in gold.
01:46:33She will be making her run for it,
01:46:35and we saw that yesterday in the finals.
01:46:38This girl is on fire.
01:46:39She is a future star,
01:46:41and you can hear the crowd cheering her on.
01:46:44The supporters, the Egyptian supporters,
01:46:46out here in numbers, Alida.
01:46:50Team of France and Italy wait for the start,
01:46:52and Italy is off.
01:46:55Yeah.
01:46:56Kazeli waiting to start.
01:46:57Kazeli is off.
01:46:59Hungary is off.
01:47:00Germany not too far.
01:47:03They will be running neck and neck this first round.
01:47:07This is the battle for silver and bronze.
01:47:10Italy, France, Hungary, Germany, and Korea.
01:47:15We should be seeing some fast times here,
01:47:17and I think there is an early overtake here
01:47:20for the team from Hungary overtaking the team from France,
01:47:24and this is looking like a fast start.
01:47:26Will they push as hard as the team from Hungary is pushing now,
01:47:31or will they keep pace?
01:47:33It's only three times 600 meters, remember,
01:47:35so they can't afford to be faster here.
01:47:38Farida Khalil in a league of her own,
01:47:40miles and miles ahead of the competition
01:47:42as she makes her way around now,
01:47:44parallel to the start and finish straight.
01:47:47You can see the men waiting on the changeover,
01:47:51but we'll see one big packed start here
01:47:53for the rest of the athletes.
01:47:56Kazeli, Zeman, and Fernandez all in one group there.
01:48:00Fernandez does seem to be making a move to try,
01:48:03go take a changeover in this curve.
01:48:07Fernandez does seem to be taking this changeover,
01:48:10and it is Fernandez leading that pack,
01:48:13Kazeli and Zeman dragging each other along.
01:48:17Fernandez took that outside line perfectly,
01:48:20executed that along the curve,
01:48:22and has her eyes now on Gioia from Italy.
01:48:25Gioia from Italy is keeping pace,
01:48:27but I think Esther has it in her to go all the way here.
01:48:31Remember, we still have the shooting to come.
01:48:34Farida Khalil is about to enter the range now,
01:48:37and you can see just that visual distance
01:48:40between the athletes,
01:48:41and those are your athletes fighting for silver and bronze.
01:48:45Italy's still in that silver medal position,
01:48:47but Esther is closing down that gap
01:48:50as well as Hungary, France, and Korea.
01:48:53Still all in with a chance.
01:48:55Farida is in the range.
01:48:57Two green shots for Farida so far.
01:48:59She misses her third, gets her third now.
01:49:01You can see her accuracy on the top left-hand side of your screen,
01:49:06and it's five shots for Farida.
01:49:08It's not the fastest shooting time,
01:49:10but she can afford to lose some time here.
01:49:12Gioia in the range for Italy,
01:49:14and France, Germany, and Hungary all join her in the range.
01:49:17Two shots so far.
01:49:19This is looking good for Germany.
01:49:20It's looking good for Italy.
01:49:22Germany and Italy level on points.
01:49:24Who's going to make it out of the range first?
01:49:26Who can hold their nerves here?
01:49:27It is actually France who makes it out.
01:49:29Germany and Italy all make it out together.
01:49:31This is the battle for second and third.
01:49:33Gioia is pushing here.
01:49:35She wants to overtake France in the opening stages of this lap.
01:49:38This is their second lap.
01:49:40Casalie for France in second place.
01:49:43Gioia, I think, is about to overtake her,
01:49:45and Esther is keeping pace.
01:49:47Schoen is actually not too far off from Fernandez.
01:49:51They did make a few seconds there with her shooting.
01:49:53She is catching up and closing the gap here,
01:49:55but let's see if Fernandez can make that takeover once again.
01:49:59Yeah, you're right.
01:50:01I think Esther has the pace in her,
01:50:03might take that outside line going into the next turn here,
01:50:07but I think she's trying not to burn off too much energy.
01:50:10She wants to be calm and collected for the shooting.
01:50:13How important is it to shake your arms out
01:50:16and make sure that your heart rate is at a good rate
01:50:20for the shooting, Alida?
01:50:22Yes, that is a very important point there,
01:50:24and I think especially if you go too hard out in that first lap,
01:50:27all that lactic acid just gets stuck up in the shoulders,
01:50:30and it's hard to do in the shooting,
01:50:33but we can see and say that Casalie is closing the gap gradually.
01:50:38Look at that. She's taking the inside line.
01:50:40I think she's about to overtake Casalie, and she does.
01:50:43They're side by side now,
01:50:45but this straight is Esther's chance to really open up a gap now.
01:50:50France is struggling to keep pace with her.
01:50:52She's actually not too far behind.
01:50:54She's falling back, and Korea is gaining on Italy.
01:50:57Korea is looking to get into that fourth-place position, and she does,
01:51:02but this is the battle for silver and bronze.
01:51:04All these athletes are heading into the range together
01:51:07and actually have they closed down the gap to Farida?
01:51:10Farida does seem to be tiring up a bit.
01:51:13She qualified for the final.
01:51:16She's done the team relay for the women
01:51:19and now heading into the range for her final shooting series.
01:51:23Farida Khalil is looking good out in first.
01:51:26Esther in that second-place position,
01:51:29but let's see how Farida shoots here.
01:51:31One green line misses her second, gets her second.
01:51:34Is this going to be a good time for Farida?
01:51:36This is looking better than her first shoot.
01:51:38Not quite there yet. Four shootings and one more,
01:51:42and she's out in ten seconds,
01:51:44and this is the battle for silver and bronze.
01:51:46Korea has joined the party, but it is France and Esther from Germany
01:51:50who is shooting brilliantly here.
01:51:52France is out.
01:51:53She takes that silver medal position,
01:51:55and is it going to be Germany? It is.
01:51:5712-second shoot from Germany,
01:51:58and Korea will be leaving the range in fourth now.
01:52:01I think she's going to hunt down Esther as well as Kasili here.
01:52:07Look at that pace from Korea.
01:52:09She is putting in the strides.
01:52:11She wants to get into that handover
01:52:13and be as close as possible to those medal positions.
01:52:17Farida very much out in first.
01:52:20Kasili, look at Kasili.
01:52:21She is putting in the pace now.
01:52:23I think it all comes down to whether Fernandez can make that takeover again,
01:52:28but it seems as if Shin has eyes on Fernandez.
01:52:32Kasili is just stretching that lead in front of Fernandez.
01:52:36I think Shin is closing up that gap by the second.
01:52:40I think she's going to try and overtake Esther.
01:52:42I don't know if Esther is aware that she's behind her,
01:52:45but it is closing up quite nicely.
01:52:47You can see the visual gap there.
01:52:48Kasili is in second, but is being chased down by Esther and Shin.
01:52:52Shin has closed that gap up to half a second now.
01:52:55Farida is turning on the backside of the course,
01:52:58but it is Shin who is going to be overtaking Fernandez.
01:53:01Can Fernandez keep pace?
01:53:02She needs to handover at a good time here.
01:53:05Her partner needs to be able to have that distance
01:53:08and secure their position on the podium,
01:53:11but Kasili now is being chased down.
01:53:13That gap is closing right up, and look at Shin moving into that third-place position.
01:53:17Esther trying to chase her down.
01:53:19This is going to be difficult.
01:53:20This is the final turn, and Farida will be handing over to her partner now,
01:53:25and that gap has closed down, Alida.
01:53:27Second place isn't far from the first-place position.
01:53:30That 31-second gap has closed down to almost five seconds now.
01:53:34It's the handover.
01:53:35Mez and Chabane is out the blocks and ready to go.
01:53:38It's going to be another formation lap for these men.
01:53:40No shooting in that first lap.
01:53:42France has handed over.
01:53:44Korea has handed over, and Germany just about hands over,
01:53:48and Germany move down into fourth place.
01:53:51Yep, Mez and Chabane is motoring through for this first lap.
01:53:55He wants this medal really badly, but not too far from him is Team of France.
01:54:01Yeah, 11 seconds behind, but we'll see those split times at the next timing gate.
01:54:07This is looking quick, and it has to be said,
01:54:09the team from Korea is looking good here.
01:54:11He is trying to close down that gap.
01:54:13France is eyeing Egypt at the moment, but Mez and Chabane is putting in a good run here.
01:54:19He needs to be able to keep that gap open,
01:54:21but I don't know if he's going to have it in him
01:54:23because the team from France is really pushing hard here.
01:54:28Mez and Chabane making that turn now.
01:54:31We'll see the times at the starting gate,
01:54:34but it looks like the team from Korea is still in third,
01:54:38but closing down in France, and you can see that visual gap here.
01:54:41I think it's almost down to two seconds now.
01:54:44Look at the split time.
01:54:45It's seven seconds between Egypt and France.
01:54:48It was up in 31 seconds, and now it's down to just seven seconds,
01:54:52and Kim from Korea with that one-second gap to second place.
01:55:00Yeah, Kim is really narrowing down the distance there for Lavallette,
01:55:04and we will have to wait for the shooting series
01:55:07because that is where all the drama comes down to.
01:55:10Lay not too far back from Kim.
01:55:13It all comes down to if he can do a perfect shooting series,
01:55:16but our first athlete is entering the beginning stage of the shooting range.
01:55:23Yeah, Mez and Chabane will be making it across the timing gate.
01:55:26The team from Turkey is behind, so don't let that fool you.
01:55:29They still have their formation lap to go,
01:55:31but Egypt, France, and Korea, this is where it matters.
01:55:35I think Korea is not going to try to overtake just quite,
01:55:39but Tim Lay in the back of your shot there in fourth place,
01:55:42all entering the range now.
01:55:43Mez and Chabane needs a good shoot.
01:55:45It's one for Egypt.
01:55:46It is two for Egypt.
01:55:47This is looking better.
01:55:49This is three for Egypt now.
01:55:51Miston out in his third,
01:55:52but I think this is going to be an incredible touring series.
01:55:55It is eight seconds for Egypt.
01:55:56Egypt are out in first, and keeping that lead.
01:55:59It's going to be France out in second.
01:56:01It's an eight-second shoot.
01:56:02The men are shooting brilliantly here.
01:56:05Who's out in third?
01:56:06It's going to be Germany.
01:56:07French for that bronze medal position.
01:56:09Korea had dropped down into fourth.
01:56:11Look at Hungary, by the way.
01:56:13They have moved up quite nicely.
01:56:15They're still in fifth place, but don't rule them out just yet.
01:56:18Mez and Chabane out in front,
01:56:20and that gap has closed out between him and France.
01:56:25Do you think France can gain on Egypt here?
01:56:27I think they have a chance.
01:56:29France is gearing up a level here.
01:56:32Chabane needs to be careful of this next shooting series.
01:56:36France is closing up on Chabane.
01:56:39Tim Ley has his eyes on the team of France,
01:56:42but not too far from him is Kim of Korea.
01:56:45But Tim Ley, we could see him in yesterday's race.
01:56:48He is a runner.
01:56:49He knows what to do in this laser run,
01:56:50and we can see just as position number one and two
01:56:53is closing up against each other.
01:56:55We are in for a finish start finish here.
01:56:58And the team from France is really closing in on Chabane.
01:57:01We could see an overtake in the second lap.
01:57:03This is crucial.
01:57:05This is everything.
01:57:07Chabane needs to make a run for it now.
01:57:09He knows if he loses that position,
01:57:11it's going to be hard to gain it back.
01:57:12France is shooting brilliantly here.
01:57:14Mez and Chabane and France making their way back round now
01:57:17to the second shooting series.
01:57:19And France, I think, is going to take over.
01:57:21I think he does.
01:57:22He's now in the race lead.
01:57:25And Egypt dropped down to second.
01:57:27Tim Ley in the back of your shot for Germany in third.
01:57:30But this is the battle for gold, silver, and bronze.
01:57:33I don't think we expected that.
01:57:34Egypt had that 31-second lead
01:57:36that was just dissipating into nothing.
01:57:39And France and Egypt head to the final shooting series.
01:57:42This is the last chance to make up second.
01:57:45Lavallat shakes his arm out,
01:57:47preparing for that shooting series.
01:57:50Yeah, here we go, Egypt and France.
01:57:52France missing on their first.
01:57:53They're really feeling the pressure here.
01:57:55France and Egypt, Egypt make their first.
01:57:57This shooting series is going to determine
01:57:59who's going to run home to gold.
01:58:01Chabane is shooting brilliantly.
01:58:03Lavallat is catching up.
01:58:04It's 3-for-3.
01:58:05Who's going to make it out of the shooting range first?
01:58:07It's 4-for-4.
01:58:08France is out in first place,
01:58:09and Chabane is really struggling with his fifth shot here.
01:58:12This is gold out,
01:58:13and it is Germany who's moved up into second place.
01:58:16Chabane is really struggling here.
01:58:18I don't think he's going to have the energy to push here.
01:58:21France is in first.
01:58:22Tim Ley is chasing him down in second.
01:58:24Could we see another change in position for gold and silver?
01:58:28I think Lavallat has this in the bag.
01:58:30But Germany is really pushing at this stage now.
01:58:33They know it's one final stretch for gold,
01:58:36and the team really makes mezz in Chabane.
01:58:38That final shooting series, Alida,
01:58:40everything just gone in an instant.
01:58:42Absolutely epic, but the race is not over yet.
01:58:45Tim Ley has his eyes on Lavallat.
01:58:48Both athletes gearing up
01:58:50and making their way to the final two turns of the course.
01:58:55Chabane needs to hold on to this pace.
01:58:58Tim Ley, by the way, is really pushing here.
01:59:01He's gaining on the team from France.
01:59:03I'm not sure if France knows that Germany is quite as fast as they are.
01:59:07He's utilizing that straight,
01:59:09and look at that sprint from Tim Ley.
01:59:11He wants that gold medal,
01:59:13but I think France is looking good for that gold.
01:59:15Don't rule them out just yet.
01:59:17They make the final turn.
01:59:19It is the final straight now,
01:59:21the start-finish straight.
01:59:23Those two athletes are fighting for gold and silver.
01:59:26It looks like it's going to be France.
01:59:28France is pushing. France is finishing hard.
01:59:30Germany won't have what it takes to finish in gold,
01:59:34but this is looking good for France.
01:59:36France is going to be the winner of the mixed relay
01:59:39of the Junior World Championships.
01:59:41France takes gold,
01:59:43and Germany runs home to silver.
01:59:46This is incredible from Germany,
01:59:49and finishing with a good comeback here.
01:59:52Team from Egypt finishing in bronze.
01:59:54I don't think that's what the crowd expected.
01:59:57I don't think that's what the athletes expected,
01:59:59but Korea with a good run as well.
02:00:01Shooting didn't quite go their way,
02:00:03but finishing in fourth is the team from Korea.
02:00:07That was dramatic.
02:00:09I don't think that's what we expected, Miriam,
02:00:11but really, congratulations.
02:00:13Goosebumps.
02:00:15That goes to show how important the shooting is.
02:00:18Never too early to rule any team out.
02:00:21Honestly, until that finish line.
02:00:24I'm just going to welcome the last few athletes
02:00:27entering the finish round.
02:00:30We see Team of Italy,
02:00:33Ventracini making his way to the finish.
02:00:38We did have a pack towards the end of the ranking,
02:00:44so we can't really say positions too early,
02:00:49so we will have to wait for the results for that,
02:00:51but welcoming Ventracini and his teammates.
02:00:55That was what a race that has been.
02:00:58Very dramatic.
02:00:59I did not think that they were going to chip in
02:01:01to that 31-second lead,
02:01:03but they have, and they proved themselves
02:01:05worthy of this medal.
02:01:06France is your gold medalist
02:01:08from this team relay mix,
02:01:09and Germany in second,
02:01:11and Egypt coming home in third.
02:01:14Some big sprint finishes here from the rest of the athletes.
02:01:17Poland up into seventh.
02:01:20Didn't quite go their way this competition,
02:01:22but again, a fantastic effort from them.
02:01:24Remember, these athletes have done individuals.
02:01:27Some of them have done the relays
02:01:30at the beginning of the competition
02:01:31and now mixed relays.
02:01:32It's been a tough one,
02:01:34but this is the end of the junior season,
02:01:36so these athletes are giving it their all.
02:01:39The team from Turkey making their way
02:01:41across the line now in ninth place,
02:01:44and this was the medal that France was waiting for
02:01:46all competition, isn't it?
02:01:48Full of blood, sweat, tears, and emotion.
02:01:51Really happy with that gold medal.
02:01:54Yeah.
02:01:55Yeah, we know Kazeli just missed out on a medal
02:01:59in yesterday's final,
02:02:00so this medal means everything to her.
02:02:03Welcoming the team of Lithuania
02:02:05over the finish line.
02:02:09Chinese Taipei.
02:02:12This was such a close race,
02:02:15but we were super confident
02:02:17that Egypt is going to finish in first,
02:02:19and that is the jeopardy in this sport.
02:02:21That is the unpredictability,
02:02:23and that is what pentathlon is all about.
02:02:26We told you it was going to be fast and frantic,
02:02:28and it definitely was.
02:02:30Canada making their way,
02:02:32final team making their way across the finish line,
02:02:35and I'll leave you with Alida Vandenberg in the box.
02:02:38I'll go get some post-race interviews.
02:02:41Yes, so, I mean,
02:02:43that was just a really dramatic race there.
02:02:46The last race of your junior world champs
02:02:49here in Alexandria, Egypt.
02:02:52All smiles for Team of France.
02:02:55Spotlight is on Team of France today,
02:02:58grabbing that gold medal finish.
02:03:04All came down to that laser run.
02:03:07We can see Farida Khalil
02:03:10in your screen there.
02:03:12Yesterday's bronze medalist in the women's final.
02:03:17Farida Khalil started us off with a 30-second head start,
02:03:23and it was then Team of Italy, France, and Hungary.
02:03:28Italy of France
02:03:30held on to that 30-second behind Egypt,
02:03:36and we did notice a change of positions there
02:03:39from Fernandez from the Team of Germany
02:03:43between Fernandez and Hungary and France
02:03:47held up a group throughout the whole way.
02:03:49In your shot there, you have Team of Italy,
02:03:51but as you can see,
02:03:53the pack that we had throughout the race
02:03:59got shot off that takeover where Fernandez had.
02:04:06But as you know,
02:04:08it came down to the shooting in this laser run.
02:04:18Farida Khalil, who had the lead for the women's leg,
02:04:22but Louison Cazali had that sprint finish there,
02:04:27passing over to her teammate, Lavalat.
02:04:31And Kim of Korea,
02:04:33who held the third position from the beginning of his lap,
02:04:38Mazen Shaban, Team of Egypt,
02:04:42had the lead until the last shooting series.
02:04:47Tim Ley had shown promising shooting
02:04:49to also overtake the Team of Korea.
02:04:54Lavalat showed amazing takeover there,
02:04:58great shot from first place to second,
02:05:02second place between first place.
02:05:17And this was the changeover between second and first place there,
02:05:21just that shooting series that was so crucial.
02:05:23Tim Ley, who had also amazing shooting there,
02:05:28Tim Ley had shown promising effort
02:05:31to make that sprint finish for that gold medal,
02:05:34but it was the Team of France today.
02:05:36Louison Cazali and Lavalat takes home the gold medal.
02:05:41Silver 2 Team of Germany,
02:05:43Fernandez and Tim Ley,
02:05:45and bronze medal to Mazen Shaban and Farida Khalil.
02:05:51But don't go too far, folks.
02:05:53We will get a few words from one of the medalists today.
02:06:01But wow, what an exciting week we had here in Alexandria.
02:06:07As you can see, Team of France have moved up two positions,
02:06:10Team of Germany three.
02:06:12Unfortunate for Team of Egypt to move down from first position,
02:06:17but still walking home with a medal.
02:06:21You can see your last few teams there.
02:06:25But for now, we will get some words from your medalist of today.
02:06:50You have that 31-second lead.
02:06:52Can you tell us what happened that chipped away at that lead?
02:06:57I think Farida did what she had.
02:07:01And then the gap was more or less.
02:07:06So I shot, the field shooting was good.
02:07:09And the running, I was very tired from yesterday
02:07:13because it was a very, very hard race yesterday.
02:07:16I do all I have and I take the silver medal.
02:07:22Well, listen, you guys have competed for a couple of days now.
02:07:26So I understand the fatigue and the muscles
02:07:28that must be building up throughout this weekend.
02:07:31Farida, you are the obstacle world record holder.
02:07:35And today you actually broke that record in the relays.
02:07:39You did a 31-second obstacle course.
02:07:41Talk to us and how did you find that speed
02:07:44after all you've gone through in this competition?
02:07:46You said you did a 31-second obstacle course and you broke a new record.
02:07:50What do you think about that?
02:07:52After you broke the record yesterday that you were tired and today you broke again?
02:07:54Yes. Yesterday I was able to break the record.
02:07:58And today I did better, I took all I have.
02:08:01And it's a good record.
02:08:04She says that every number she made,
02:08:07she has more and more to beat this number again.
02:08:12Listen, it was incredible watching you guys.
02:08:14you guys. Just one more word in Arabic for your friends and family watching on the YPM TV.
02:08:35Well congratulations, you got a bronze medal to Team Relay Mix here at the Junior World
02:08:39Championships in front of your home crowd. We'll let you go celebrate. Congratulations.
02:08:43Thank you.
02:08:50Mixed Relay of the Junior World Championships and up next we will get a few words from your
02:08:56silver medalist of today, which is the team of Germany.
02:09:13And here we are, the interview with your silver medalist.
02:09:23We are here with our silver medalist. We have Tim Lay and Esther Fernandez. What a race
02:09:29you guys had in store for us. I mean, Tim Lay, you came out of nowhere. And Esther, I
02:09:34know that you're the Laser Run World Champion. So you put in that run, you put in that effort.
02:09:39But Tim Lay, talk to us what was happening in that last lap. You almost had gold for
02:09:44a second there. What was going through your mind?
02:09:46I had a quite good last shooting and then I came out and I saw I'm second, just the
02:09:51French guy in front of me. And I felt my legs, they felt surprisingly, they felt very good.
02:09:55And then I just started to sprint. But chapeau to the French guy because he was even faster
02:10:00than me. But we're super satisfied with getting silver here.
02:10:04I mean, you just missed out on the podium yesterday. So obviously this means a lot for
02:10:09you. And just talk to us about what was happening during that shooting race. People were coming
02:10:14in and out and you were feeling that pressure. You were almost up into gold and almost going
02:10:19to lose out to bronze as well. So talk to us how you keep your nerves and calm in the
02:10:24shooting range. Who can I ask?
02:10:27I think Esther is just so known. She's done so many laser runs. She's just professional
02:10:34and she did a very good job. And even when I went into shooting, I always heard her say
02:10:39focus, do the job. And then I just tried to do it in my lane, just focus on my shooting
02:10:45and then work it in the running.
02:10:47Just one more question for you guys. This is obviously the Junior World Championships.
02:10:51The seniors haven't had a chance to contest in the obstacles yet. Do you guys feel like
02:10:56you have the upper hand going into next year with the seniors?
02:10:59I think we have a slightly advantage to them. But there's still so much time left. We have
02:11:04over half a year. And if they put in the right work, I think they will get as good as we
02:11:09are. But we're just a bit advanced compared to them. And I think we have just a slightly
02:11:14advantage.
02:11:15All right. Finally, a word in German for your friends and family back home.
02:11:20Yes.
02:11:37Well, listen, congratulations. You both have been incredible. Go enjoy your medal.
02:11:40Thank you.
02:11:41Thank you.
02:11:49Good position for the 32nd spot.
02:11:54But the gold medalist of today, the team from France, Luisan and Diego from France.
02:12:04It's weird. Finally, the upper hand.
02:12:34How do you feel now that you've finally gotten on the podium? And not just on the podium,
02:12:39you guys are the champions.
02:12:40Yeah, we are on the top of the world for the mixed relay. And I'm very glad to do this
02:12:45place with Diego because it's my last junior year. And I really wanted to finish well my
02:12:52junior years. And yesterday, I was very sad about my third place because the last round
02:12:58was a bit hard. And today I take revenge with Diego and it's even better. So, yes, I'm very
02:13:05happy.
02:13:06Well, you chipped away at that 31-second lead you had behind Farida. But Diego, actually,
02:13:13how did you feel going into the laser? And I mean, Egypt seemed strong before the start
02:13:18of the laser, but you guys were able to put in the pace and really catch them up. How
02:13:23did that feel at the start of the race?
02:13:26I feel very good in running. And it's a race with a lot of stakes. And I see the Egyptians
02:13:40just in front of me. And I run and shoot very well. So, it's good.
02:13:48Well, it's incredible to see your passion for this sport. And obviously, Louis-Jean,
02:13:52you said this is your final junior year. We might see you in juniors next year, Diego.
02:13:57Yes.
02:13:58So, obviously.
02:13:59Maybe.
02:14:00Well, you're incredible. So, I'm sure we'll see you there. But we are moving now into
02:14:04the senior category. Obstacle course will be contested next year after the Paris Olympics
02:14:08in the senior category. I've asked this of the German team, but do you guys feel like
02:14:13you have the upper hand more so than the seniors do?
02:14:17I think we have a chance for the next few years because we have a little bit of advantage.
02:14:24But I think with training, everybody will be good at the end. But for the beginning,
02:14:30young people in Pentathlon have a chance, I think.
02:14:35Okay, one more question for you guys. The Olympics in Paris will take place over just
02:14:40a month's time now. And you'll be watching the senior athletes competing. Just how much
02:14:46motivation does that give you, watching all the seniors competing and maybe even winning
02:14:50the Paris Olympics?
02:14:52It's very good to have the Olympics in France because we are in the…
02:14:59In the country for gay voice, for our country. And yes, it's crazy to have the Olympics
02:15:09at home. And we hope that our seniors will be very good and we will be there for them.
02:15:16So yes, it's a big motivation to see seniors, everybody, every time on TV. And we want to
02:15:24do the same thing.
02:15:26And we can watch it.
02:15:28Yes, yes.
02:15:29It's very nice.
02:15:30Well, congratulations. It seems like the medal ceremony is about to start, so I'll leave
02:15:34you to congratulations and everything. But yeah, go celebrate for that gold medal. Good
02:15:39job, guys.
02:15:40Thanks. Thank you very much.
02:15:41Yes!
02:15:44You have your gold medalist of the team Mixed Relay here in the Junior World Championships
02:15:49in Alexandria, Egypt. Don't go too far because we will have the medal ceremony of your winners
02:15:55today. And that is being said, gold medal to team of France, silver medal to team of
02:16:03Germany, and bronze medal to the team of Egypt. What a race we had here. Team of Egypt
02:16:10who was in first position, but it was the team of France who showed promising performance
02:16:17in the laser run, as well as the team of Germany who will be walking home with those medals.
02:16:33And we have a look at the last results of today. Team of France first, Germany second,
02:16:45Egypt third, Korea fourth, Hungary fifth, Italy, Poland, Lithuania, and Canada.
02:16:52Yeah, well, thank you, Alida, for holding down the fourth. It was nice hearing from
02:16:59all the teams. I mean, they've just been incredible throughout the day, and it's just
02:17:03been unpredictable through and through. And as stated before, I think Egypt were the favorite
02:17:08for gold, but maybe these athletes were really tired after a couple of days of competing
02:17:14that they've had. They've really performed throughout this competition. A bunch of records
02:17:20broken here and now, but yeah, congratulations to all the teams. Team from France, both in
02:17:27their own individuals, finishing right off that podium. And now not only are they back
02:17:32on the podium, but they're back with a gold medal. Yeah, no, it was an excellent race
02:17:39to watch here. I think all athletes are... It's been a long week. It has really been
02:17:44a long week, and I think it's good to go back home with these medals for those nations,
02:17:50France, Germany, and Egypt. Yeah, we had a nice mix of athletes. Some of them just
02:17:56entering the junior scene, and some of them are going to be leaving next year. So it's
02:18:01great to see that difference in experience that we've had here. And also, we talked about
02:18:08this with the athletes during the interviews. It is going to give them an edge to the rest
02:18:13of the seniors who are still contesting with riding in the Paris Olympics. It might give
02:18:19them that bit of advantage going into next year. Maybe these stars will be the stars
02:18:25of the seniors as well. Yeah, no, you're right there, Marianne. But I mean, we also
02:18:30can just see how fast these athletes are growing with the new discipline. I mean, if we look
02:18:35at last year's obstacle race compared to this year's obstacle race here in the junior world
02:18:39champs, we just see how fast athletes have just been growing with themselves and with
02:18:44their techniques. And we'll be seeing more records in the future. Let's not rule that
02:18:49out just yet. We've seen, I think, about four records being broken here in the men's. And
02:18:56the thing is, Alida, when you break a world record, you maybe break it by one second,
02:19:01by split second. These athletes have managed to break the record by 12 seconds. I remember
02:19:06the record last year for the obstacle course for the women, it was by Zeina Ahmed, it was
02:19:1144 and now it's 32. And an unofficial world record set by Farida today with a 31 second
02:19:18time in the obstacle course. So, yeah, the development and how fast these athletes are
02:19:24adapting is just phenomenal to watch. So we are nearing the start of the medal ceremony,
02:19:31actually. The athletes are in their training suits and heading to the stage now. Egyptians
02:19:39gathering by the stage in support of their bronze medalists. And the teams of France
02:19:48and Germany up there as well. That was a fantastic race from France and Germany. They came absolutely
02:19:55out of nowhere. And to have that drive and passion, even though they were 31 seconds
02:20:00behind. And team Germany only 39 seconds behind. I mean, that's what we want to see in pentathlon,
02:20:07that never giving up until the very last second. Yeah, it felt like if the race would have
02:20:12gone on for one more lap, that Tim Lee could have gotten gold for Germany. But it was a
02:20:18fantastic effort from all the teams very well deserved by France and Germany with that silver
02:20:24and again, Egypt with the bronze. This is a nice end to the competition. I mean, we've
02:20:32seen three podiums, or we'll see the third one today. But yeah, men's final, women's
02:20:39final and today with the mixed relays. A bit of downtime now, bit of off-season, vacation.
02:20:47Yeah, I think not all of them though. I mean, we do know that there are some young athletes
02:20:52in here competing. I mean, not the last of seeing them, but we are about to start. Yeah,
02:20:58the presenters making their way up to the stage now, as well as all the athletes.
02:21:06Nice to see the good pairings here. I think that says a lot about the athletes' chemistry
02:21:12together. I mean, competing together is an art. And I don't think if, yeah, I think they're
02:21:19all pretty wonderful pairings, especially that French team, they've mentioned that they're
02:21:23actually best friends in real life. So it's nice to see that coming through in their performances
02:21:28as well.
02:21:29And I think that does play a big role. But we now welcome our bronze medalists, Farida
02:21:34Khalil and Mazen Shaban, taking your mixed relay junior world champs bronze medal.
02:21:42Yeah, it is. Yeah, fantastic effort for the team from Egypt. Farida with consecutive
02:21:50bronzes and a gold medal at the start of the competition with the team Relay Women.
02:21:54I think they were looking for another gold here. But nonetheless, these athletes are
02:21:59young and they will be learning from their experiences here. They will take this medal
02:22:06and learn from all the mistakes that have happened. But yeah, they've started the day
02:22:13well and they've ended it well on the podium once again.
02:22:17Let me see the stunning cleansing bags that athletes are awarded.
02:22:28Yeah, Farida Khalil, Mazen Shaban are your mixed relay bronze medalists from this 2024
02:22:35Junior World Championships. Germany, and very much deserving of it, they take home the silver
02:22:45medal, Tim Ley and Esther Fernandez.
02:22:52It's always a nice moment to see them getting those medals around their necks.
02:22:58And I think both athletes missed out on an individual result and podium. So this means
02:23:03everything to them going home to their families with a silver medal.
02:23:08It's a bit of a flex holding a trophy in the airport, isn't it? Walking around. Definitely.
02:23:12You have that with you. And look how big the trophy is.
02:23:16I think it just comes down to who gets the trophy. But congrats to the team of Germany.
02:23:24They award their absolute fencing bags.
02:23:31But the spotlight goes to...
02:23:36So the winners of the gold medal, 2024 Junior World Champions in the mixed relay, it is
02:23:48the team of France, Louisan Cazalie and Diego La Villette.
02:23:55You can see the smiles on their faces, both missing out on podium finishes yesterday.
02:24:00We saw in fourth place and Diego in sixth.
02:24:06Now, not just on the podium, but on top of the podium, on top of the world.
02:24:11They are your champions.
02:24:15France, Germany and Egypt. What a day it has been.
02:24:19They've had fencing ranking round this morning.
02:24:22They've gone through the motions of this competition. They get the biggest trophy of all.
02:24:26I'd like to see that picture of that jump on the podium, sort of the moment versus the picture.
02:24:34Congratulations to the team of France.
02:24:37With the juniors, you get that pure joy when they're up there on the podium.
02:24:41They don't get as much podiums per year as the seniors do.
02:24:45So maybe the seniors are a bit numb to it.
02:24:48Competing at that elite level, sometimes you always are pushing for excellence.
02:24:53You can see the pure joy on Diego's face.
02:24:57That is an incredible effort from the French team, starting the day not in first, but finishing as champions.
02:25:05We will now stand for the national anthem of France.
02:25:22The National Anthem of France
02:25:52The National Anthem of France
02:26:12That is the national anthem of France.
02:26:16I'm sure everyone back home watching is proud of this pairing.
02:26:19They've been incredible all day. They've been incredible throughout this competition.
02:26:24And to finish things off in gold and doing it together as best friends as well.
02:26:29That was a sight today we've had in this incredible stadium here in Alexandria.
02:26:37This is that, look at that shot. That is one for the frame.
02:26:43So again, France in that gold medal position, Germany takes silver, and Egypt with bronze.
02:26:51And this is kind of bittersweet because this is the final broadcast we'll have ahead of the Paris Olympic Games.
02:26:59But yeah, it has been wonderful seeing all the athletes, the future of our sport competing together.
02:27:05And yeah, that was an incredible competition through and through.
02:27:12And this is the conclusion then of the 2024 Pentathlon Junior World Championships.
02:27:21Thank you for tuning in. You've been incredible.
02:27:24And stay tuned because the Paris Olympics are coming up.
02:27:27Thank you for watching. It's bye for now.
02:27:34Thank you.
02:28:04Thank you.
02:28:34Thank you.
02:29:04Thank you.
02:29:34Thank you.
02:30:04Thank you.
02:30:34Thank you.
02:31:04Thank you.
02:31:34Thank you.
