In the whole month of June, we've been focusing on various conditions
00:03
affecting pediatric urological conditions
00:06
On this occasion, we're going to talk about something quite peculiar
00:10
which is cancer
00:17
You might be wondering why am I talking about cancer in young children
00:21
In fact, surprise surprise, testicular cancer only happen in younger group of adult men
00:29
In fact, we know testicular cancer commonly affect men between 18 to 38
00:36
And in this age group, sometimes it even affect men in adolescence between 18 to 21
00:44
Testicular cancer itself is quite peculiar and it's on the rise
00:48
We don't know why
00:49
Some people blame it on chemicals we're exposed to
00:52
Some people blame it on the hormones that men are exposed to
00:56
One thing for sure, if somebody has an undescended testicle
01:01
your testicle is closer to your core body temperature
01:05
then your risk of getting testicular cancer is 50 times higher
01:11
So there are effectively two types of testicular cancer
01:15
Seminoma and non-seminomatous germ cell tumors
01:20
As far as the readers and also viewers are concerned
01:23
there's not much difference between these two
01:25
However, after we remove the testicle because of the cancer
01:30
we will analyze it and see whether they are susceptible to chemotherapy or not
01:37
The interesting fact about testicular cancer is
01:40
Number one, it happens in younger group of men
01:44
Number two, it's painless
01:48
So the testicle itself feels hard like a nodular area that is not smooth
01:53
which testicle should be
01:55
and it is completely painless
01:58
And therefore, painless lumps in the testicle is cancer until proven otherwise
02:04
The third thing that is very peculiar about testicular cancer
02:08
is that it is almost completely curable despite the stages
02:14
Testicular cancer are very receptive to chemotherapy
02:19
In fact, platinum-based chemotherapy can almost eradicate this cancer
02:24
even in fourth stage
02:26
Therefore, the cure rate is nearly 97% if the patient receives chemotherapy
02:34
So therefore, despite men or adolescents being young
02:39
we always teach them to do self-examination
02:42
because that self-examination, if they find a painless nodule
02:46
that can save their life because testicular cancer is almost curable
02:51
For the month of July, we're going to start fresh
02:54
We're going to talk about various conditions that affect erectile dysfunction
02:58
And you might have heard that recently there was a study published to show
03:02
that men who has got erectile dysfunction
03:05
whenever they remove their foreskin or they do an operation for erectile dysfunction
03:11
they realize that there's a lot of microplastics inside the actual penis itself
03:17
So what is this all about?
03:19
If you want to find out, stay tuned for next week's Putting Dr. G on the Spot
