00:00As you all are aware that we're focusing a lot on testicular cancer.
00:05So, what happens after the surgery is done?
00:09And actually, what will happen to a man who has got an empty scrotal sac?
00:20Essentially, the operations that carries out in order to get rid of the cancerous testicle
00:24is called radical orchidectomy.
00:27So, clearly, when one is removed, it's left with an empty sack.
00:32And that itself sometimes might actually lower the self-esteem
00:35for an individual who suffers from testicular cancer.
00:38In fact, it's not just someone who actually loses a testicle that way.
00:43For example, a twisted testicle is a condition called testicular torsion.
00:48Or sometimes, trauma or an infection called epidermal orchitis
00:52might end up leaving somebody with only one testicle left.
00:57In fact, the testicle on the other side, which is not affected, can be totally functional.
01:02The two functions, number one, continue to produce sperms.
01:06And number two, continue to produce the hormone that is required, namely the testosterone.
01:11So, for an individual who are contemplating a prosthesis,
01:15which is a fake testicle, to put into the scrotum, actually has no physiological impact
01:22and no functional impact at all because it won't produce sperm and it will not produce any hormone.
01:28It's purely for the actual self-esteem and also for cosmetic reasons.
01:33So, actually, the history of putting prosthesis in the testicle has dated back for at least 100 years.
01:41In the old days, sometimes people put in glass or put in ivory in order to simulate a testicle on the other side.
01:50But in the 1990s, then during the time of mammary or breast prosthesis, silicone was also used.
01:59But after the scares of silicone, the newer version of silicone or even saline-filled implants has been used in order to do that.
02:08In order to identify what or how to put it in, one needs to know what is the size of the other normal testicle.
02:16For example, the normal size, which is an M size, it should be about 4 cm.
02:22For some individual with a smaller size testicle, for example 2 to 3 cm,
02:27then one can use an orchidometer in order to identify smaller testicle.
02:32And a big size, such as more than 5 cm, can be used for a large or extra-large size.
02:39Once the size is identified, the patient can choose the shape that they want.
02:44And then that is put in a sterile method, either pull through the scrotum or put through the inguinal area
02:51in order to create a symmetry for the testicle.
02:56After the procedure, most men are quite happy with it because it creates some sort of symmetry
03:01and give them self-esteem.
03:03However, some people regret putting in, especially there's 1 to 3% of complication rate,
03:09such as infection or hematoma, which is collection of blood.
03:14To wrap up the month of Movember November,
03:16we want to use a test case of an individual or a famous individual
03:22who underwent the journey of testicle cancer.
03:25And we're going to focus on Lance Armstrong.
03:27Stay tuned for next week's Putting Dr. G on the Spot.
03:31We're going to turn to Monika Fox.
03:32We're going to turn to Monika Fox.
03:34We're going to work on this scene with a entire left-hand side of the celebrity.
03:38We'll be in touch.
03:38We're going to start by using further red Greeley computers.
