Cyber criminals infiltered cloud service provider Snowflake, making off with the personal data of millions of music fans registered with online concert ticket platform Ticketmaster.
Transcript
00:00The private data of more than 500 million Ticketmaster customers stolen, according to
00:06the hacker group Shiny Hunters.
00:08The data allegedly contains names, addresses, telephone numbers and even credit card details.
00:14The ticket sales company was reportedly targeted by a cloud storage provider Snowflake.
00:19The breach is said to have given Shiny Hunters access to data from over 150 international
00:24companies.
00:27Ten companies have already been ordered to pay a ransom of at least six figures to see
00:31the return of the customer's data.
00:33And if you have a spare $500,000 on you, Shiny Hunters is offering to sell Ticketmaster
00:39customer data directly on the darknet.
00:47You can get anything on the darknet.
00:49You can rent anything, buy anything, there's 24-hour customer service, money-back guarantee.
00:54You can't imagine how professional it is.
00:57There are whole forums where data from identity theft are sold en masse, even given away.
01:06Bad for the companies that have been hacked, worse for the users affected.
01:10Now your personal data is a commodity on the darknet.
01:15Like for example these unencrypted invoices from the Motel 1 hotel chain.
01:21Researchers at the Hasso Plattner Institute obtained the records after hackers stole the
01:25data in 2023.
01:27Not only do they show who stayed with whom and when in which hotel, but they also contain
01:33personal data such as addresses and credit card numbers.
01:41A credit card might cost a few cents, maybe a dollar.
01:44And you'll see, you are just one of many.
01:46It's incredibly lucrative for criminals to take a little money into their hands, steal
01:51a lot of identities and go on an internet shopping spree.
