First look inside the newly completed Theatre Twyford in Merimbula

00:00The space is primarily a performing arts space and it's primarily for the community to use.

00:12So we are expecting that at least 50% of what goes on in here will be staged by or involve

00:20community groups, the local theatrical groups, dance troupes, gymnastics clubs, musos, bands,

00:28schools etc. and I think we will see a huge uplift in what those talented locals can display

00:34in a dedicated space like this.

00:37They can be presented and produced in a manner that will make their work even more appealing.

00:42We will of course be bringing professional touring productions and artists to the theatre

00:46and the Twyford will form an important touring link along the south east coast between Batemans

00:51Bay to the north, Canberra and Sale to the south which are the three venues closest to

00:59us that can approximate this sort of thing.

01:02So we will be working closely with existing venues like Club Sapphire and the Bega Civic

01:07Centre as we program that sort of thing to make sure that we are not contradicting one

01:12another in the way we approach things.

01:14But again I want to point out the versatility of the space.

01:18As I said it can be a theatre, a cinema, a conference venue and we have the capability

01:23to stream content in and out of the theatre which will enable greater community connectivity

01:28and will be of interest in the corporate and education sectors.

01:32And the new theatre blends seamlessly with the old Twyford Hall which itself has had

01:36an upgrade and facelift through this whole process.

01:39So you could put a full orchestra in the hall exactly like an orchestra in the pit and it's

01:46all connected sound and vision so you can have that orchestra playing in there and for

01:50example a ballet or a really large scale musical production up here on the stage.

01:56Or you can use the hall as a large dressing room for a production as Spectrum will be

02:00doing in September for their production of Oliver which has a cast of around 36 locals
