Transcript
00:00We have told you that today is the International Day of Drugs and the youth are on the target
00:07of such drugs because their mind can be manipulated very quickly in schools, colleges and universities.
00:14This drug has spread very badly.
00:16The report of the UN shows that the number of people who use drugs is more than 27.5 million.
00:24This is a documented number and there is no documentation in Pakistan.
00:28So, it is estimated that the number of people who use drugs in Pakistan is more than 70 million.
00:32Yes, it is more than 70 million.
00:34Multiply it by 2.
00:36The methods of manipulation are being used.
00:39This is affecting every age group.
00:42We can see that women are also not safe from this.
00:45Now, we will talk to Khaliqul Rehman, the Director of Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
00:53Thank you so much, Khaliqul Rehman.
00:55Today is a very important day.
00:57The number of people we are informing is increasing.
01:01The more awareness is being created, the more efforts are being made to stop it.
01:05Why is this happening? What are the reasons?
01:09Peace be upon you.
01:11First of all, I would like to thank you for inviting me to this program.
01:16As you can see, this issue has been increasing for the past few years.
01:25The government has made a lot of efforts in this regard, both at the local and provincial level.
01:36Our province borders Afghanistan and other countries.
01:47So, there is a lot of issue here.
01:49As soon as our government came into power, our Prime Minister has imposed an emergency on narcotics.
02:03We are working on it.
02:06We are working very well.
02:08He has also created a task force, a provincial task force,
02:12in which he has included our various departments.
02:19Our police is also included.
02:21At the federal level, the ANF is also included.
02:26And our educational institutions are also included.
02:29Mr. Sheikh, I would like to know one thing.
02:31I am not just talking about KP.
02:33Overall, the situation in the country is that despite all the measures being taken,
02:39all kinds of drugs from crystal meth are easily available here.
02:44Now, we hear that even in the case of code words,
02:47it has become easier to use them through WhatsApp and social media
02:51because tracing has become very difficult.
02:53So, children are being affected a lot.
02:56This drug has reached the level of schools.
02:58Various things are being sold to them to improve their memory,
03:02to perform better in exams,
03:04to reduce the social pressure on them.
03:05And they get used to it from there.
03:07So, how will you face this problem?
03:10Apart from the conventional ways.
03:14Look, as I told you,
03:16at our level, at the level of our province,
03:20the task force that has been announced by Mr. Pujara,
03:25we will include the heads of educational institutions in this.
03:30And along with that, we are also including our civil administration.
03:35This matter is a little long.
03:38I mean, the way it was tackled before,
03:41now we will tackle it in the right way, God willing.
03:44And in this, as you said,
03:47it has become an easy means.
03:50It has also become a means of income for people.
03:52And at the same time, it has become easier to reach people.
03:55So, God willing, we are tackling it now.
03:58At the level of our province, we have tackled it in a very good way.
04:02Mr. Khalid, one thing is very important,
04:05which is not talked about much.
04:07That is, okay, there is a crackdown for these people,
04:10methods are being adopted to catch them.
04:12But the drug addicts,
04:14once you get them out of this loop,
04:18they will need centers for rehab.
04:20We do not have their numbers.
04:22It is not a question of how much rehab is needed
04:24so that they cannot go there again.
04:27In this, I would like to tell you that in our province,
04:30Alhamdulillah, we have,
04:32with regards to rehab,
04:35under the guidance of the Prime Minister,
04:38all the streets and markets here,
04:42and the kind of addicts in different places,
04:45we have run a bad campaign here.
04:48And we have got them admitted to rehab centers.
04:52And it is not just that we have engaged them in governmental rehab centers.
05:00Along with that, we have also engaged private rehab centers.
05:06We have made a joint strategy with them.
05:08If you ever visit Peshawar,
05:11you will see, Alhamdulillah,
05:13we have controlled it to a large extent.
05:15Right.
05:16Even at this time,
05:18more than 1300 people are in our rehab centers.
05:21Our civil administration,
05:23our secretary,
05:26and our team are watching this.
05:29And a proper strategy has been made for this.
05:32And you will see,
05:34there will be a lot of improvement.
