Ford Recalls 550,000 F-150 Trucks in US for Dangerous Transmission Issue

Ford is recalling over 550,000 F-150 pickup trucks from the 2014 model year in the US. The recall is due to an issue where the transmissions can unexpectedly downshift to first gear at any speed, increasing the risk of a crash. The problem is caused by a lost signal between the transmission speed sensor and the powertrain control computer, which can also be caused by corrosion or connector pin issues. Owners may see a malfunction light before downshifting occurs, and in some cases, signals can be restored while driving, but a restart may be needed to fix the issue. Dealers will update the powertrain control software free of charge, with repairs expected to be available in the third quarter of 2024.
