City of Launceston takes icy plunge for MND (20/6/2024)

00:00So here today we've got 20 sliders that will be going down in support for FightMND.

00:06It's something that directly aligns with our values at the City of Launcest, you know.

00:10Our people matter in our community, they really do matter to us.

00:13And this is just a way, a small way for a small period of time,

00:16for us to express and to show the support that we have,

00:19that we obviously see at this time of year,

00:21of year with the Beanies and being the 10th year with the Danaher,

00:24and the amount of work that's been happening in that space as well.

00:27So this is just a way for the Launceston Council to get behind it

00:32and to really be an active and supportive player in this space.

00:36We've been directly impacted by MND.

00:38We've had workers that have suffered and have passed away

00:42from the beast that is the disease.

00:44So for us to come out in support of that is really quite personal.

00:48We all, if not directly or indirectly, have somebody that we do know

00:54that has experienced or passed away,

00:56or a family that has experienced it themselves.

00:59So yeah, this is a really strong message that we're sending

01:02to the fightMND community that, you know, we are behind you

01:05and this is just that small token of thanks and support

01:08that we can show out here today in Churchill Park.

01:11This is an absolute direct challenge to any of the other mayors around the state,

01:15whether it's in the north, northwest, down into the south.

01:19It'd be great to see some southern mayors doing some stuff out in the community,

01:23just like we do a lot here in the north.

01:25So yeah, absolutely, the challenge is there.
