Richard Christou, a former boss of Fujitsu, says he 'feels' for subpostmasters
Transcript
00:00So, I think overall I'm responsible and I accept that for setting up the systems, but
00:07it's people lower down in the organisation who have to operate them.
00:16That's talking about responsibility for ensuring things are working. I want to ask a slightly
00:21different question about accountability. Would you accept that as, in terms of your accountability
00:28then for the ICL group and its operations, what would you say your level of accountability
00:33was?
00:35What I was responsible for was that as far as possible to see that the operations of
00:42ICL were carried out legally, were carried out profitably, and to report to my shareholders,
00:52Fujitsu Limited, various issues insofar as it was necessary. If you mean that I was responsible
00:59for the miscarriage of justice, then I don't accept that. It's not to mitigate the miscarriage
01:06of justice, I hate to add, I think it's a gross miscarriage of justice. I really feel
01:15for the sub-postmasters and the postmasters who are involved, but talking about accountability
01:22is a different matter. And certainly I knew nothing about it.
