00:00Some people go to bed late and simply chalk it up to being a night owl.
00:04But a new study found that late bedtimes can actually harm your mental health.
00:08The study, published in Psychiatry Research, analyzed sleep and health data from nearly 74,000 people.
00:15Those who regularly went to bed after 1 a.m. were more likely to experience mental health disorders
00:21like depression and anxiety than those who went to bed before 1 a.m.
00:25A University of Pittsburgh professor tells HuffPost,
00:28quote,
00:34He went on to tell the site that it's important for our bodies to get strong signals at its daytime,
00:39which can come in the form of morning sun.
00:41If you don't get those signals, it can cause issues with your biology, which could also affect your brain.
00:47It's good to note this study did have some limitations since the people analyzed were mostly white and middle-aged or older.
00:53Additionally, researchers relied on mental health diagnosis data added by doctors,
00:58which can be inaccurate, according to HuffPost.
