00:00So the union has removed them, have written management informing them that all these persons are no longer its representative.
00:10Don Devenish, the president of the Banking Insurance and General Workers Union, Big Woo, speaking about the expulsion of two former members of its central executive who were part of the union's branch executive at Republic Bank Limited, RBL.
00:28To remove them from the union is the general's council decision. There is a process in the constitution where the union itself has to go through a process to remove them.
00:44It has to investigate, they have to call upon them to respond etc. and then a decision will be made.
00:51Hugo Henry first spoke on behalf of Big Woo's general council during a media conference at the union's headquarters in Barataria on Saturday.
01:01Also, it is alleged that these rogue elements have now registered a new entity, giving their membership the false impression that it can now represent them.
01:11It must be made abundantly clear that Big Woo is the recognised majority union for the bank.
01:19To those members who have left the union, are you aware you are uncovered and cannot be represented by any new entity that has not been recognised?
01:31Your branch executive has now placed you, you all, at risk.
01:35Mr. Henry read from a media release on behalf of the union's general council which was signed by the union's president.
01:43One, accusations of BIGW president being responsible for the series of events which would have taken place is totally unfounded.
01:55And two, stating that the trustees have not been performing their due diligence is nothing short of laughable.
02:02Mr. Henry spoke about Big Woo's general council meeting last week on June 6th.
02:09Following the findings, the general council took a vote which resulted in 78 members in favour of expulsion.
02:18Two against the decision with 11 abstentions.
02:22The motion was carried by majority vote.
02:26It should be noted that even though the RBL branch executive was present at this meeting, they did not vote against the expulsion.
02:35But it seems that matter is not yet over.
02:38Still dealing with the issue of the major issue concerning the removal of the two officers.
02:48Because they have made an appeal and that will be heard at the next conference of the union in keeping with the union's constitution.
02:57Mr. Henry claimed that some of the union's members at RBL have been coerced to resign but are now reapplying for membership.
