St Kilda coach Ross Lyon has defended his tactics in the face of mounting criticism while declaring his intention to continue using a tagger to blunt the AFL's sharpest ball-winners. Video via AAP.

00:26 We're way off the mark inside 4-50 when we create possession games.

00:31 And we don't take our opportunities like, you know those ones where you hit it back quick and it should snap the goal.

00:36 I think we're three goals 18 or something, so we're 18th there.

00:40 Even though we create the same amount of opportunities, whether they're as good or worse, not too sure.

00:45 Our biggest area for concern is scoring from clearance. We know that.

00:50 So if you guys were to go to Champion Darden and go give us a little possession game

00:55 and we're saying kill the score off possession game, you would rate, we would be right up there in the top four or five.

01:00 I can give you the numbers. We score on average 48 points.

01:05 If I said to you, 'Carton, basically we score 48 points from possession game, what do you think?'

01:10 And that puts them fourth, would we be equal fifth and sixth with goalcoaches?

01:14 No one would say that. So it's diving in.

01:16 Where we score from, we've known that for two years.

01:19 It's clearance as much, but there's a little bit about method and contesting in front of the ball and those things

01:26 and the ability to take the opportunities off our, we lost our front half game, but we had it back on the weekend.

01:31 So the bottom line is we need to score more, but I've given you a little bit of insight to the areas

01:36 and all the opposition would know that as well.

01:38 So we're looking to build out our clearance score and our centre forward scoring off possession game, it's really simple.
