School Students experience Artificial Insemination at No Bull

00:00Hi, my name's Stephen Brown, I own and operate Noble Artificial Insemination Training at

00:06Boral Creek.

00:07We've got a purposely built training facility, we've been going for five years, we're getting

00:11students or farmers coming from all parts of Australia, even get veterinarians to come

00:17and do their artificial insemination course here.

00:20We also run pregnancy testing courses, I'm very passionate and take great pride in passing

00:26these skills on.

00:28Today we've got some AgSkills students come from the Mening Valley, they've come here

00:33to our facility and basically I'm just giving them a bit of an introduction to artificial

00:38insemination.

00:39So we've been into the classroom this morning, we went through the advantages and disadvantages

00:43of artificial insemination, we went through the semen thawing.

00:47Give it a gentle shake and into our water, thawing water, put your canister back.

00:53Okay, so we've got to leave that there for how long?

00:58Forty-five seconds.

01:00Loading the pipettes.

01:01We're going to thaw it out in the correct temperature water and we've got to load it

01:05up into these AI pipettes and we've got to go on AI cow.

01:09And then they had a go with the pipette of passing the pipettes through the cervix into

01:14the body of the uterus.

01:16And then we got some cows in and they went in there searching and trying to find a cervix.

01:21Did that little practical session for half an hour and then I showed them how to actually

01:25artificially inseminate a cow.

01:51And then hopefully later on we'll do a demonstration of some preg testing using the ultrasound

01:58and that should basically do the day.

02:00Yeah, they've been great students, thoroughly enjoyed it.

02:05Today we're here at Noble Artificial Insemination where Steve Brown has been teaching us roughly

02:10how to AI in a short time with Katie and a bit of preg testing this afternoon.

02:15I've enjoyed most today that we've actually been able to do a bit of hands-on stuff and

02:19be able to see and he can explain it so we know what we're doing and get a bit ahead.

02:24I joined AgSkillz program as, I mean, I'm a kid that likes agriculture and there's an

02:29opportunity within school, so you weren't actually away from school, it's within school.

02:33And we get to do more than on a beef farm.

02:36Yeah, I'd like to be a stock and station agent within the agricultural industry.

02:39So it's been a fantastic day, all the kids have had a fantastic time.

02:43They've learnt a heap about artificial insemination, about the reproductive system of the cow.

02:48And they've all taken away a huge amount of knowledge, which is absolutely fantastic.
