00:15 Anwar said this after attending an event on Sunday.
00:18 The training of specialists through the Parallel Pathway is a government initiative to increase
00:23 the number of specialists in Malaysia, particularly in public hospitals.
00:28 The Health Ministry established this training programme in 2014, following approval from
00:33 the then Health Minister and relevant authorities.
00:36 The training and qualifications are government-approved and recognised, with quality assurance provided
00:41 by the Royal Colleges.
00:44 Earlier this month, four graduates from the Parallel Pathway training with the Royal College
00:48 of Surgeons of Edinburgh in cardiothoracic surgery took legal action against the Malaysian
00:54 Medical Council, or MMC, for refusing to register them on the National Specialist Register,
01:00 or NSR.
01:02 This marks the third known lawsuit challenging the MMC's rejection of NSR specialist registration
01:07 applications, with judicial review applications filed to contest the regulatory body's recent
01:13 non-recognition of certain specialist training programmes.
