00:00What can't the Philadelphia Phillies do at this point of a
00:06Major League Baseball season? The answer to my own question
00:10might be lose. The Philz have won six straight games. They
00:13are now 37 and 14. The best start for this Phillies
00:17franchise since when Donnie? 1892 is the best stretch right
00:23now for the Philadelphia Phillies. What is it like 29?
00:25I forget the exact record but there's not the actual record
00:28itself with the stretch of games where the so far above
00:30500 best stretch since 1892 right now. What were there?
00:36What was the nickname in 1892? Is it culturally appropriate
00:39or no? Ah, I think so. I think I'm still Phillies at that
00:42point, right? Yeah, I think it's only athletics. Well that
00:46there was two teams in town, the Phillies and the Athletics
00:48at the same time. Yeah. Oh, gotcha. Okay. Well, we'll get
00:51to that a little bit later on regardless. The point stands
00:54the Philz are the best team in Major League Baseball 37 and
00:5914 and yesterday completing a four-game midweek series
01:03sweep over the reigning World Series champion, Texas Rangers.
01:07The Rangers struggling mightily. They have dropped 11 of
01:11their last 13 games. The Philz the complete opposite end
01:14of that coin. They have won 11 of their previous 13 and
01:18with the five to two victory yesterday, a four-game sweep
01:22six wins in a row for the Philz and they were booked with
01:25Zach Wheeler on the bump is greater than a two dollar
01:29favorite. It was only a three-game series sweep. Are you
01:31sure about that?
01:33Okay. I mean tough scene tough scene. I mean first Ben gets
01:37the series wrong. He's got a culturally inappropriate name.
01:42I mean, come on.
01:46I'm trying to provide you all of that. You need that jargon,
01:50right? You need some of that hate speech that you believe
01:52everybody is talking bad about the Philz when nobody has ever
01:56said a bad word about Philadelphia and the way they're
01:58playing baseball this year. I'm trying to be that guy. So
02:01just a three-game sweep for the Philz back in 1892 a great
02:05stretch with a wonderful name team in the Phillies and a
02:09five-to-two win yesterday over Texas.
02:12Yeah, look the Phillies just keep piling on at this point.
02:14Doesn't matter if you've been starting the game down.
02:16Adolis Garcia hit a bomb into the left field. See it's
02:18maybe it's not Zach Wheeler's day. He responds by going seven
02:21innings only giving up two earned runs 5 K's 91 pitches
02:25lowering his era to 2.53. And this is what we talk about with
02:28the Philadelphia Phillies on a day-to-day basis. Seems like
02:30every single day they go out. The better pitcher is on the
02:34Philadelphia Phillies side in a Major League baseball. What's
02:37the most key ingredient to a team having success? Yes, you
02:40would love guys to hit 40 to 50 home runs. But if you have a
02:42really good pitching staff, you're going to have a really
02:45good season. That's what the Philadelphia Phillies are having
02:47right now. And again this weekend, they're going to take
02:49on the Colorado Rockies every single game. They take on the
02:52Rockies. They'll have the better pitcher on the mound that
02:55equates to a lot of wins in a short period of time.
02:58A minus 210 Road Moneyline favorite for the Phillies today
03:02on the road in cores with a total of ten and a half JT
03:07Real Muto back-to-back home runs in the last two days had
03:11a homer in three RBIs on Wednesday a solo shot yesterday
03:15as well for the Philz that five to two victory to complete
03:19a three-game series sweep Donnie only three games in a row
03:25over Texas, but six victories in a row for the Philz rubber
03:29match of also just a three-game set yesterday in Wrigley
03:33inside the friendly confines between the Braves and the Cubs.
03:37It was Atlanta as a slight road favorite blanking Chicago
03:41three to nothing the victory for the Braves who take the
03:43final two games of this set to win the series total of eight
03:47and a half inside the friendly confines does stay under the
03:51Braves now under in 13 of their last 16 games.
03:55Yeah, kind of crazy too because we always think about Atlanta
03:58with that powerful offense one through nine playing in a
04:00hitter's ballpark in Atlanta and you say, all right, well
04:02they were on the road.
04:03Well, you played in a great hitters ballpark here in Chicago,
04:06but it wasn't necessarily the Atlanta Bats were focused on
04:09it was the Atlanta starting pitching and bullpen pitching
04:11here, which has been absolutely fantastic 29 and 18 on the
04:15season. If it wasn't for the Phillies getting off to such
04:17a historical start the Braves probably would be comfortably
04:20in first place in the NL East.
04:22It's a good baseball team getting great pitching at the
04:24right time sooner than later though.
04:26Ben the tide is going to turn in Atlanta.
04:29We don't know how long this pitching can hold up with their
04:30starting staff, but we know that lineup is capable breaking
04:34out at any moment.
04:35We're just waiting for that moment now.
04:37Still a six-game lead for Philadelphia over Atlanta for
04:40the top spot in the National League East and much like
04:43yesterday, the two clubs have the same price to win the
04:46division yesterday.
04:47It was minus 115 for both the Braves and the Phillies today.
04:51It's minus 110 for whatever reason Atlanta, of course is
04:54won this division the NL East for six consecutive seasons.
04:58What a pitching performance.
05:00It was yesterday in the Bronx out of Lucas, excuse me, Luis
05:05heel the starter for the New York Yankees.
05:08He blanks the Seattle Mariners on the other side as the Yankees
05:11take the final two games of a four-game set to split the series
05:16against Seattle five to nothing the victory for the pinstripes
05:20both Aaron judge and Giancarlo Stanton hit a long ball for
05:23the Yanks yesterday up in the Bronx.
05:26Yeah, Luis Castillo didn't even have a bad performance here
05:28as he drops to four and six five innings pitch to earned runs.
05:31That's appropriate there for playing up in New York, but
05:34you take a look at the we seal.
05:35He's been fantastic.
05:36Let's sort of out of left field.
05:37These are the type of guys that can propel you from a very
05:40good season to a great season as you wait to get Garrett
05:43callback six and a third innings pitch.
05:45No earned runs yesterday 8 strikeouts a 211 era on the season
05:49now that is fantastic, but also more importantly than getting
05:52a Luis heel great start.
05:54I always like to look at that box score for the Yankees and
05:56anytime you got judge and Stanton starting to heat up right
05:59now both hitting home runs where you see judge now sitting
06:01at 276 and Stanton approaching 250 here and I preface this
06:05also we haven't even got into the months where it's going
06:08to be 85 and 90 degrees in some of these games up at Yankee
06:12Stadium.
06:12That ball is really going to travel 35 and 17 man good on
06:16the Yanks.
06:16That's a good ball club.
06:1915 home runs now for Aaron judge back-to-back games with
06:23a homer.
06:24He has hit three home runs in the Yanks last five Luis seal
06:27this year has been sensational echo Donnie's point shut out
06:32work yesterday only allowed one hit to Seattle striking out
06:36eight.
06:36He is six and one this season with a 211 era 2.11 era for
06:42Luis heel as we go around Major League Baseball.
06:45Now DRS very different stories in the two leagues, but really
06:51are they when you look at the American League pennant prices
06:54the New York Yankees unsurprisingly the favorites after
06:57the strong start to the season in the very slow start for
07:00Houston.
07:01The Yanks became the favorites to win the pennant despite
07:03the Astros being the preseason favorites.
07:06The Yanks plus 240 half the price of Baltimore behind them
07:10at 5 to 1 and when was the last time DRS as we approach
07:13Memorial Day weekend, which technically starts tonight or
07:17tomorrow.
07:17Could you see a team that is six games below 500 at 6 to 1
07:23with a third best number to win a pennant?
07:25That's the Houston Astros.
07:27It's a direct shot at the AL West right now because I mean,
07:30let's just change it up a little bit here where you would
07:32put like, I know you can't do this, but the Philadelphia
07:34Phillies has put them in the AL West that price point at
07:376 to 1 be nowhere near 6 to 1.
07:39The reason why the Astros are 6 to 1 is because nobody wants
07:42to win any games and just as the Astros are messing around.
07:44Did you see like the last two weeks for the Texas Rangers?
07:47They've been terrible.
07:48You saw the Yankees get handle their business against the
07:50Mariners, which keeps everything in play forget about the
07:53totality of the standings was once again, you cannot win
07:56the pennant unless you make the playoffs.
07:59But once you make the playoffs everybody's back on that even
08:02playing to you and you say, okay, the Astros have been there
08:04done that been the dependent or one dependent multiple times
08:06and World Series champions.
08:07It's crazy to see that 6 to 1 price for not a good baseball
08:10team. But again, it's just a direct correlation that everybody
08:14is keeping the Astros in it in the AL West where they could
08:16possibly win that division, which is crazy to think about
08:19when they were double digits under 500 just a short time
08:22ago.
08:23There is only one team with a winning record in the American
08:26League West.
08:27It is the Seattle Mariners in because of that despite being
08:30six games below 500 Houston's only four and a half games back
08:34the Astros are minus 120 to make the playoffs but plus 200
08:38to win the AL West.
08:39That's your better number just the divisional race for the
08:42Astros at the moment.
08:44If you're looking for value in the American League, I think
08:47what's with the two teams near the top of the AL Central the
08:49Guardians at 11 to 1 or the Royals at 23 to 1 and Donnie.
08:54We have discussed the National League at length, but it's
08:57really that tier of three.
08:58The Phil's the third best number plus 390 and then we get to
09:01the Cubs at 16 to 1.
09:04Look at that dramatic drop-off in the National League plenty
09:07more around Major League Baseball comes your way up next
09:11a wild ending on the south side of Chicago between the White
09:14Sox and the Orioles and some other scores from a shirt for
09:18short Thursday slate before jam-packed weekend of the bigs
09:21up next Paul Skeens day in Pittsburgh, but a wild comeback
09:26from the San Francisco Giants inside PNC Park a couple of
09:30the games we recap from our short Thursday slate around MLB
09:35had some crazy and chaotic finishes first.
09:38We start in Pittsburgh where Paul Skeens was okay and his
09:43third Major League Baseball start of his career, but the story
09:47was San Francisco.
09:48The Giants win 7 to 6 as a plus 150 Moneyline underdog.
09:53I sprinkled on the Gigantes yesterday and they came back
09:57for me total goes well over seven and a half.
10:01Why was it such a wild comeback?
10:03The Pittsburgh Pirates had a 6 to 2 lead at the end of seven
10:07innings San Francisco plated five in the eighth inning led
10:12by a three-run home run from Matt Chapman to come all the
10:15way back the Pirates were a minus 178 favorite with Skeens
10:20on the mound yesterday.
10:21Drs are now 7 and 14 straight up when booked as the favorite
10:27side on the Moneyline this Major League Baseball season.
10:30Yeah, that's terrible.
10:31Especially if you take a look at Skeens who did go six innings
10:33pitch 93 pitches only allowed one earned run now.
10:36He didn't have his crazy.
10:37Let me get 12 or 13 strikeout performance.
10:40Like we know he's probably capable of but he lowered his
10:42ERA to 2.25.
10:43That's supposed to be a win.
10:44You're supposed to that should be easily in your back pocket
10:47and we're not talking about like, yeah, you know what Dodgers
10:50Otani Betts Smith?
10:51Yeah, they got to him late.
10:52This is the San Francisco Giants.
10:54We're not exactly known for offense here.
10:56We absolutely torch that bullpen for the Pittsburgh Pirates,
10:59but that's the issue with the Pirates.
11:00They're not a good baseball team and typically in the Major
11:02Leagues. We don't look at front end starting pitching or
11:04sometimes the lineup.
11:05It's like we're the bad teams really struggle.
11:07Has there ever been a bad baseball teams like man?
11:09They got one of the better bullpens.
11:11No, that's usually when you're starting pitcher comes out
11:13of the game and you hold your breath to try to close out
11:15the eighth and ninth inning Skeins was really good yesterday.
11:18The bullpen really bad and that equates to a loss here the
11:21Pittsburgh Pirates, which was so promising to start the first
11:23couple weeks of the season like hey, maybe we can catch
11:26lightning in a bottle that bottle is gone and we're not
11:28raising too many Jolly Rogers at this point.
11:31Yeah, they're down five games below 500 at this moment.
11:35The buck goes now 23 and 28 the rest of the summer in Pittsburgh
11:40is really going to be an examination of their two young
11:42studs at the top of the starting staff.
11:44That's Jared Jones the rookie and now Paul Skeins the rookie
11:49as well Pittsburgh off to such a great start each of the past
11:53two MLB seasons where you're like, oh after two and a half
11:56weeks the Pirates really the Pirates not so much.
11:59Meanwhile, the Giants with the comeback yesterday, San
12:02Francisco is one six of their last seven.
12:04They hit the head to City Field for a weekend set that begins
12:08this weekend in Queens against the Mets.
12:10Why do I highlight that?
12:12I will be in attendance tomorrow for some day baseball on a
12:15Saturday.
12:16You're going to pick up Kevin Walsh lives right next door
12:19there.
12:19It's a City Field in the heart of New York City.
12:21Maybe the boys can get together little videos.
12:23Maybe the in maybe the instant 360 out there shooting some
12:26videos.
12:27Oh, will you send that to us?
12:29Maybe so, maybe we'll get a little live reaction.
12:32Coca-Cola Corner.
12:33All I'll say it's a bad day to be a Bud Light at City Field
12:38tomorrow as we go around Major League Baseball and get you
12:43recapped on everything.
12:44You need to know from yesterday a wild ending in Pittsburgh
12:48because of a comeback for the Giants.
12:50The White Sox were trying to do the same in the bottom of the
12:53ninth at home against the Baltimore Orioles.
12:56The O's up eight to six and you've been attended at the dish
13:00one out runners on first and second skies one high in the
13:04air in the infield.
13:05Conor Henderson, the shortstop for Baltimore gets under it
13:08easily makes the grab.
13:10It looked like they were calling an infield fly rule instead.
13:12They were calling interference on Chicago's baseman or at
13:16second Andrew Vaughn who calmly walked back to second plate
13:20Conor Henderson goes slightly around him in the base path and
13:23makes the grab but they called interference on Vaughn.
13:26So it results in a game-ending double play Chicago's chance
13:30of a comeback is halted and Baltimore wins eight to six as
13:35a minus 230 Moneyline favorite one of the worst and wildest
13:41calls you will ever seen see made by a Major League Baseball
13:44umpire.
13:45It's brutal and sometimes you don't need this stuff.
13:48And as I brought up to begin the beginning of the show if it
13:50is an egregious play wait to see how it plays out here.
13:53You can easily make that call whoever watched that play as
13:57an umpire and said, we know what that really got in his way.
13:59Nobody got in anybody's way at this point.
14:01And also you could tell the body language by the player that
14:03was leading off of second base.
14:05He's just walking back.
14:06He's not trying to actually impede the process of anybody,
14:09but frankly doesn't even know where that player is even at
14:11and he also has a right to get back to the base himself at
14:14that point.
14:14It was just a crazy way to end it and also from a guy that
14:17likes RBI props.
14:19Mr.
14:19Lee was supposed to come to the plate with two outs there and
14:22a runner on second base.
14:23It was 300 price to get an RBI who never got that plate
14:27appearance class action lawsuit from DRS could be coming
14:30today.
14:30Yep.
14:31I think it should be it really should be Donnie right side
14:34petitions Major League Baseball umpiring for a statement in
14:38the rationale behind what was a terrible call made against
14:42Andrew Vaughn again Vaughn doesn't even see Gunnar Henderson
14:45knows behind him kind of keeping him on second base, but he
14:49has no idea where Henderson is.
14:51He could be in the hole between second and third anyway, a
14:56terrible call Baltimore does bounce back though.
14:58They were swept in St.
14:59Louis and a midweek set by the Redbirds.
15:02So they get that victory yesterday elsewhere in Detroit.
15:05The Tigers now have lost five straight games and the Blue Jays
15:09had a big day in the Motor City 9 to 1 the victory for Toronto
15:13Kevin Gossman the starter for the J sensational six innings
15:16of work only allowed a single earned run and had 10 strikeouts
15:20as both of these teams entered with the same price on that
15:24money line a pick them minus 108 both sides.
15:26The Blue Jays get a win.
15:28A couple good starts in a row now from Kevin Gossman.
15:30That's what you anticipate.
15:32This is what you're supposed to get and still you look at
15:33that record for Toronto Bennett's 23 and 26 completely
15:37underwhelming.
15:38Maybe this is one of these games or series that gets them
15:40a kickstart here because they're much better offensively
15:43than they've showed yesterday 282 now in the season two for
15:46five for Vladimir Guerrero jr.
15:48You take a look at Danny Jansen has been very good as a
15:51catcher for them other guys stepping up but it starts with
15:53the pitching staff Alec Manoa's on the mound today.
15:56We know the struggles.
15:56He's been through with a couple good starts.
15:58Maybe it's the start of something good in Toronto.
16:01We'll find out you would not expect the two teams to be
16:05in the bottom of the American League East the two teams
16:08in that division below 500 to be the two teams that are below
16:11500 the Rays a staple of consistency 25 and 26 Tampa on
16:16a four-game skid the Blue Jays three games below 523 and 26
16:23most everybody is playing about 50 games in Major League
16:26Baseball.
16:26We always say Memorial Day weekend a critical juncture
16:30of the season to get a true assessment and evaluation of
16:33your club and what you are going to do the rest of the way.
