00:00 This year, my boyfriend and I have been cutting back the amount of alcohol that we drink,
00:03 and here's what I've noticed. I sleep way better. Alcohol can reduce the melatonin secretion in
00:10 your brain, which is the hormone that regulates your sleep-wake cycles. We've also lost a little
00:15 bit of weight. Alcohol has seven calories per gram, and it doesn't fill us up in the same way
00:19 that solid food does. We also haven't gotten sick as much. Alcohol can actually suppress
00:24 the immune system by impacting the good bacteria in our gut. Alcohol is a complicated thing,
00:29 and everyone has a different relationship with it, so just because this works for me doesn't
00:33 necessarily mean it's right for you. Mostly, it's a reminder that you don't have to completely cut
00:37 it out to reap the benefits of cutting back. If you need me, I'll be drinking this cucumber mint
00:42 non-alcoholic spritzer. Cheers.
