00:00 Hello, I'm Sam Morton and here is your daily Sussex News Bulletin on Friday May 24th.
00:06 A road in Worthing has had to be closed after a sinkhole appeared.
00:10 Photos show that a section of Shandon Road has been taped off with the road impassable to motorists this morning.
00:16 The cordon was being guarded by two police officers.
00:19 Sussex Police confirmed that officers were alerted to the sinkhole at 5.40pm on Thursday and were assisting highways teams.
00:26 West Sussex County Council said they were urgently responding to the void, adding
00:31 "The area around the void was barriered off for the safety of the public and the road closed at this location.
00:36 The remainder of the road was left open for residents to approach from either direction.
00:40 We apologise for any inconvenience and a repair team will attend today so the road can be reopened as soon as possible."
00:46 Meanwhile, a burst water main in a part of Hastings left residents with little or no supply on Thursday afternoon.
00:52 According to Southern Water, the incident was reported just after 1pm and affected the TN35 area.
00:59 The burst main was located in the Oar area near Fairlight.
01:03 Southern Water engineers worked to repair the burst and restored water within three hours.
01:07 This comes after tens of thousands of homes were left without water after another burst on May 2nd
01:12 with more than 30,000 customers finally regaining their supply by May 7th.
01:17 It has since been revealed that those affected will not be compensated.
01:21 Finally, live music and food nights are planned once again for Horsham.
01:25 Horsham's popular Friday late night music and food nights are returning for the spring and summer months of 2024.
01:32 Organised by Horsham District Council and Food Rocks Markets, the events will take place every Friday night
01:38 from 6pm to 8pm throughout June, July and August this year at the Horsham Carfax Bandstand.
01:45 David Skip, the District Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Green Spaces,
01:49 said it is great news that due to the popularity of the 2023 entertainment programme, it is back and bigger than last year.
