00:00 It's like a plague ripped straight out of the Bible.
00:02 This video was recently captured in Spring Creek, Nevada,
00:05 and what you are seeing are thousands of crickets covering a home.
00:09 The insects have been swarming the state for a week,
00:11 as scenes like this have become more common.
00:13 The owner of this house, as you can see here,
00:15 used a leaf blower to remove the crickets from their home.
00:18 It's a wild scene that will no doubt make your skin crawl,
00:21 but the impact of this brood could be far more impactful.
00:24 The USDA said recently that this Mormon cricket swarm
00:27 could be devastating to farmers if it reaches agricultural land,
00:30 with the organization warning of economic and ecological damage if that happens.
00:35 This breed of cricket usually exists in relatively low population densities.
00:39 However, experts say that on occasion they may form large swarms.
00:42 These events can last years, and what triggers them is not well understood.
00:46 Mormon crickets have been a problem in the southwestern U.S. for a while,
00:50 already having moved across the state of Colorado.
