Another track from the final album by The Animals, Animalism, released in November 1966. However, I first heard it on The Best of Eric Burdon & The Animals, Volume II, released in 1967. A truly excellent compilation, much better than the first "best of" album. In early 1967 Eric Burdon and the Animals released "Hey Gyp" as a single, with "When I Was Young" on the B side (another excellent track from Best Of, Vol II, one which I also made into a video quite some time ago). Apparently the single failed to chart, but was always considered a "hit" all the same. "Hey Gyp" was written by Donovan and recorded by him in 1965.

The song is simple enough: a young man determined to seduce a woman by impressing her with all the things he will buy for her ... whether or not he actually can.
