00:00 Vodafone is set to lose more than 4 million of its customers in Germany, the telecoms
00:05 giant said on Tuesday. The firm has around 8.5 million TV contracts in the country, but
00:11 said it expects it will only be able to retain around half of them following a regulatory
00:15 change that comes into force in July.
00:18 In the UK, however, Vodafone could be about to gain several million more customers. That's
00:23 because the firm plans to merge with one of its biggest rivals, 3, if the tarp is approved
00:28 by regulators. The deal cleared its first regulatory hurdle last week after the government
00:33 gave it a conditional security clearance after having considered 3's Chinese ownership. However,
00:38 it's still awaiting a decision by the Competition and Markets Authority expected later this
00:43 year. The CMA has said it fears the merger could lead to a poorer consumer experience
00:48 because of less competition, but Vodafone has insisted it already has one of the lowest
00:53 rates of customer complaints in the industry.
