00:00 Representative Roman Romulo revealed the lower house is discussing a proposal to shorten school
00:06 year 2024 to 2025 to allow the education sector to revert back to the old school calendar
00:13 immediately. The lawmaker maintained the best setup for learning is still face-to-face classes.
00:18 However, due to circumstances that forced the Department of Education or DEPED to change the
00:24 school calendar which then consequently made it necessary for classes to still be held during
00:29 the summer months. And with El Nino actually making the warmer climate even more unbearable,
00:35 he believes it is high time to return the old schedule.
00:38 "They have submitted alternatives to Malacanang and that includes the shortening of the return
00:51 of the old academic calendar. Meaning by next year, hopefully, that will be the last academic
00:58 calendar that will be held in April. After next year, it will really be back to the old
01:07 academic calendar wherein April and May will be the summer vacation of our teachers and students.
01:16 To be honest, we at the House of Representatives are against the return of the school calendar
01:21 because we see that the continuity of learning is affected."
